My commute to work involves crossing a bridge and driving close to 38 miles one way. Since I leave early in the morning, it takes about 45-50minutes. Coming home takes about 80-90minutes. So total of almost 2.5 hours a day in the car.

It is kind of annoying but it is a good job so I won't be changing my commute anytime soon.

How long would you be willing to commute to work? Also, is there a commute time limit where it is just not worth it for you?

I first voted 5-15 minutes but then changed to 30 minutes since i have a 30 minute walk to the gym daily. I hate commuting especially since the drive for me would be through heavy traffic, too many lights, too much changing of gears, etc.

All depends on how you use the time....read Books on CD or download and your commute becomes productive and/or enjoyable reading time

We have commuter buses that go down to Boston from our area and it takes about two hours. The parking lots are pretty full as there are a lot of people that can't deal with a daily drive but they can sleep or work on the bus going and coming even though it's four hours out of their day.

My commute was 45 minutes when I was a lot younger but the drive was peaceful and uneventful. It's been about 20 minutes for the past 30 years and I'm pretty happy with that. Most of us can work remotely too so we don't have to come into the office every day. Some come in a few times a month and others live in other parts of the country permanently or part-time so they work from home.

My current commute is 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. The half hour is ok, the 45 in traffic kinda sucks. Thankfully, I face traffic less than half the time. This, to me, is about the maximum before it becomes a real burden (if it was always the 45 min it would be a bit dismal, but bearable). If the job was exceptionally fulfilling and well compensated, and the commute was pleasant, maybe I would go 1 - 1.25 hours. But that would be for a dream job and a dream house, where giving up one or the other was too sad.

I had a job commuting from Santa Cruz to San Jose years ago and it was a beautiful, but somewhat stressful 45 - 1 hour drive through the mountains. I sometimes carpooled with a friend or did books on tape. I kept that job when I moved to Albany (back when they still hadn't repaired the earthquake damaged MacArthur Maze) and had the ugliest, most boring yet stressful 1 - 1.5 hour commute for a job that was just OK. It really wore me down after a year or so. I had this feeling of "what the hell am I living for anyway?" That feeling led to some regrettable choices. Long story short, I got a better job with a 7 hour work day, 15 minute commute, and more pay. My mood improved immensely. I felt like I was living my life for myself and loved ones, and not for my job.

Atm it's usually 50mins. Sometimes up to 60-65.

25 in traffic and 25 in walking (although I walk very fast, in a normal tempo it's 30+ mins of walking).

I'm very happy with my commute - 4.5 miles - 8 minutes in the (early) morning; 20 or 25 on the way home.

When I was young I did a 35 mile commute - was working from 6AM to 8PM - nodded off for about 1 second on the freeway. That was the end of that.

I worked with a guy who lived in the 'Inland Empire' of So Cal. East of Riverside; drove 84 miles each way. One morning he gassed up the car and drove off with the nozzle still in the car (fortunately they have cut-off valves so there was no fire). He didn't drive off like a lot of losers do - he stopped and took the nozzle/hose (what was left of it) into the station. When he told them he expected them to be upset; they weren't - said it happened at least once a month.

One of the worst mistakes I made is to trade a 10 minute commute job for a 1:30 commute (3 hours daily, EVERY day). On friday evenings it takes me sometimes 2:30 to get home.
After a year and a half I am ready to call it quits. I feel 10'yeRs older than 18 months ago.

Learned my lesson (at 43)! Never before I had more than 20-30 minute commute.

I used to have a 40-minute ride and hated it for all the stress on me and the car. Now my commute is about 10 feet to get on the bike and ride. Sometimes that's too far.

I would. Something like 2-3 times a week, ocassionally maybe 4.

I'm travelling home from work as we are speaking, lol.
Yep. Out of sight, out of mind. If the program/project your on ends, you don't want people forgetting you. There is still some value in seeing people in person.

Driverless cars can't come soon enough.
