This loss just makes USO even more frustrating

This would be way easier to deal with if he had just gone to Paris after winning USO. But he had to go and snipe that Karen..

Not sure what will determine the slam race more, 40-15 or Karen being sniped.

This is why you have to collect it while you have a chance. Opportunities won't always be there for you, Novak!

It really is sad, but look forward to record equaling YE#1 and breaking Roger's weeks at #1 record. :)
Not all is dark and gloomy.

Would you count it as a YE#1 with less than half the year played?

Nadal 2005, 2007, 2011
Federer 2003, 2012, 2017
Djokovic 2013, 2016, 2019

All clearly better year end number 2.

Exactly, nothing to deal with. It's not like Djokovic was serving for the match at 40-15 and then went on to lose it. He was demolished, pure and simple. These should be the simplest losses to get over.
From personal experience, I got over AO 2019 Final very quickly. But today was the highest stakes match in Open Era, and Djokovic’s level was VERY hyped pre-final by many, including you. So not sure if it’s comparable.

These kind of posts are so disrespectful to other players especially the US Open Champion Thiem. Should we just disband the entire tour and make it only 3 players? Why is it so distressing that somebody else had a chance to win for once?

I would give credit to Thiem if he had beaten Novak, but he didn’t.

I still except Novak to have a say in the overall slam race so I wouldn't get too dejected, but yes it's been a strange year where one slam doesn't seem too impressive, especially considering he was a big favourite at the USO.

I think the USO loss was karma for the RG16 incident, and that interview where he dismissed the possibility of being punished.

Djokovic still favourite for 2/4 slams, despite his 5 set battles. Even if Thiem takes Australia, who can beat him on grass?
My heart say its the karma for Wimbledon 19. That's one slam he stole away despite not being the better player.
In USO, one slam was taken from him.
Balances out

Did you see what the final ended up looking like there?

He still has tons of opportunities to make up for it so long as NextGen keeps NextGenning. He's the massive favorite for the next slam coming up.

Presently, Sampras has the YE #1 with 6. Novak has a good chance of tying him this year. Weeks at #1 could possibly happen mid next year.

If Nadal just has a misstep next year at RG, we could end up with 20-20-20 in the not so distant future.

Novak is a favorite at 3 majors and the biggest threat at the 4th.

Federer choke at 2019 SW19

Thiem choke at 2020 AO.

Djokovic should be counting his lucky stars.

yea but how many of these close escapes does he have left in him?

next time he might just lose in 4 and never get a chance to make a comeback

there's only so many MPs you can save before it goes against you

You win some , you lose some..

He made good of 2011 USO, 2019 Wimb . He lost 2020 USO... I am pretty sure with age catching up he will lose a few heart breakers . In fact he has not had any at all.

How is Novak a favourite at the USO? Thiem almost beat him at AO and is very capable of beating him at the USO

Djoker had ZERO STRATEGY. He played as if he was on HC, expecting Ultron mode to come out of nowhere and giving himself very little margin of error. He had no variation in his game except for his dumb drop shots. His backhand was trash on both high balls and low ball and he played ZERO Slices.
With all the talent and experience he has, he did nothing to adjust his game and literally implored the sky to help him. Pathetic.

He's becoming your average multi-millionaire who lives in a bubble of yes-men and his attitude is starting to creep into his tennis career. He deserved to be DQ at the USO, he deserves to be obliterated by Rafa at RG. I hope this will teach him a life lesson.

Rafa. It was crazy close the last time they played at Wimbledon, and really could have gone either way.

Wimbledon is not Australia. Rafa will believe he can beat Novak there, especially considering the closeness of their last encounter.

I think he learned a huge lesson at the USO but I don't know what was up with that gameplan today to ball bash with low percentage shots. He might as well net rushed every chance he got, since he won 67% of the points up there today, instead of trying to stand way back and play low percentage all match. It certainly couldn't have been any worse than they strategy he employed. I will say if he had Goran in his ear before this then that will explain it because he seems to not know a damn about clay and certainly does not know anything about Rafa's aura and skill on Chatrier. But yes, he needs a reset and he needs to a good lesson from this as well.

He only has himself to blame. USO was his but gifted away like he always does. He's the player who should be sitting on 20, not the Bull. The difference is that Bull doesn't gift away his slams. If it's RG he takes it. If it's is a non-RG slam with weak draw, he vultures it. Simple.

His wife is a liability as well i feel. She gets into stuff with journalists when she has nothing to do with tennis. His parents do not help when they mouth off. He should sack ivanisevic. His comments saying Nadal had zero chance was not just delusional but also disrespectful to a fellow professional.

Djokovic needs to stop going for walkabouts at US Open and majoring in the minors (Masters, ATP 500s, 250s).

He should drop clay, shorten his schedule and play the Masters as warm-ups for the big events.

There's no doubt in my mind that he can still tie Federer's slam count if he stays focused.

Nadal is the best of all time in punishing slice shots. Federer will tell you.

Djokovic was missing many of the shots he would make in 2012-2014 Clay Meetings. Very Poor energy from him.

Nadal backhand is not a liability anymore, same pattern of play not working.

Nadal and 40 year old Federer are his biggest threats there sure

Yeah, true. But a 1 slam year is kind of disappointing.
Novak's level has been overhyped anyway. He has been getting by thanks to his aura more than anything else. And weak opponents in his 2 masters wins.

He'd be slamless this year if Thiem actually had any cojones. And he'd have no slams after 2019 AO if Fed himself did his job properly.

He can tie Fed's slam record, but will he break Nadal's?
