No tennis player will have the epilogue of the true GOAT of GOATS Diego Maradona

Been a hard week for all of us with the passing of probably the greatest ever sportsman this week.
The global reaction to his passing illustrated how revered and loved he was and it is hard to see any tennis player, even Nadal and Federer having such an effect on the entire globe as we saw this week.
In terms of trangressing a sport Maradona did that and then some.
Loved that guy so much. He did it his way and had charisma to burn.
Tennis players of this era bar perhaps Djokovic and Nick are perhaps too PC?

Outside of Argentina and Italy there wasn't so much fuss. Don't exaggerate. Also in soccer there are many legends like Messi, Pele, both Ronaldos, etc. Maradona wasn't above them. Also soccer is much more popular than tennis so it's unfair to compare, of course it would make a bigger impact, not to mention how soccer fans are known to be very passionate (sometimes in the wrong way). But I'm sure in Switzerland and Spain there would be a lot of reaction for Fedal.

But as popular as soccer players are, when Michael Jackson 2009 and Whitney Houston 2012 died, they were both the most googled words for those respective years (not only for people but for any words or themes searched on Google). I doubt Maradona would get close so it's hard to compare different sports or different entertainment fields.

Were you not watching the news? Maradona was pretty much main news everywhere for 2 days.
Only players close to Maradona would be Pele and Cristiano Ronaldo but Maradona clearly ahead of both those legends.
Brazil ronaldo a category down. Messi and ronaldinho hugely overrated. Messi was propped up by xavi and iniesta. Fact he had no international title with Argentina speaks volumes. Maradona dragged an average team to a world cup. Messi failed in an Argentine side packed with superstars for a decade.!

The point is, soccer is much bigger than tennis so it's normal that tennis players wouldn't get as much attention, just like soccer players wouldn't get as much attention as certain music celebrities.

Maradona stopped playing 20 years ago. And the attention he got was in line with "certain music celebrities".
It is just that you are young and for you Messi is the benchmark.

You must be kidding. Even american news channels were covering his death for days and doing specials about him. Have you even seen all the newspapers around the world? Maradona was on every cover. A french known newspaper said "God is dead". In fact Michael Jackson is the only one whose death was covered around the world the same way but no way was Whitney Houston#s death on the same level. Maradona and MJ became big at the same time and were about the same age, so hundreds of millions of people followed their careers.

And yes, Maradona was above Pele, Messi and the rest, there is no doubt about it. Not only was he the best player but he was the only one creating so many emotions for people all around the world.

Google Reveals 2012's Top Trending Searches - Marketing Charts

I don't where you live, but she was on tv for over a month. Maybe you just personally didn't care.

Anyways the only reason he got in the news in the 2nd day is because Argentinian soccer fans were being violent on the streets.

Fedal fans are more mature and have class.

Football is the biggest, most popular sport on the planet. Tennis is not. I don't think being PC has got anything to do with it. There are numerous football players who'd get bigger worldwide reactions than any tennis player would, you don't have to be one of the greatest of all time.

Whitney died in early 2012 so obviously the search is for all of 2012 while Maradona died in late November, so he can't reach the same klicks for 2020.

I live in Europe. Whitney Houston was obviously covered more in the US than in Europe, just like Maradona was covered more around the world than in the US. But Maradona's name is way bigger than hers. There was a study done in the late 80s or early 90s by an american company and they found out that Maradona was the most famous person in the world back then even ahead of Michael.

I have no more interest in this discussion, believe what you want to believe. 8-B Let me know when one of his videos from the 80's or 90's gets billion of views on YouTube. Or let's just start with 100 million views. 8-B

Stop whining. When you go on google his name already has more results than her but that doesn't make him a better person or her a lesser star. The thing is that Maradona's death wasn't even unexpected while Whitney's death came out of nowhere at such a young age.

Whitney was a drug addict like Maradona and their addictions undoubtedly contributed to both their deaths.

Sure. But so was Michael and so are many musicians but nobody expects them to die so young. Keith Richards could have been dead since the 70s due to his heavy abuse of substances but he is still alive and will turn 80 in a few years.

Some people know how to handle their addictions better than others or maybe have just been luckier. Richards may fall into either category or maybe both. Point is that if you mess around with this stuff you're taking a big risk with your life. Whitney and other younger addicts took the gamble and lost. They were the unlucky ones but the risk was always there.

Terrible post. Cristiano Ronaldo fluking a Euros title doesn’t make him better than Messi internationally. This makes you sound like you didn’t watch him play much.

Maradona and sportsman don't really belong in the same sentence.

Lol fluking. Ronaldo owns Messi in every stat. More goals, more CLs more international honours.

Messi vs Ronaldo is a thing from 5-8 years ago. Since then, Ronaldo just ran away with it. He's above Messi in every category.
Messi is better at football though, and it's not even close. Ronaldo is better at goal hanging and scoring penalties. Messi will end his career with more goals and assists.

Most clueless comment i have ever read lol. Ronaldo has scored way better and memorable goals than Messi and played for inferior teams. He is miles ahead of Messi. Ronaldo can head, use both feet and has pace and power and skill. Messi has a great left foot.

Nadal is twice the athlete and twice the man.
