not completely unsurprised, also just want people to keep in mind that this man is almost 40 with two knee surgeries (i know we're used to people winning **** with apparently the shoddiest knees tin the world) and most people didnt even think he would get through yesterday's match, why risk any further damage to the body, he wasnt going to win anyway and i think this is where his rule of never retiring kind of comes into play, because once he steps on court he intends to play all the way through so i guess he felt it was best to withdraw.

he has always been honest about that even prior to rg, that wimbledon is his priority and where his season starts. imo i wish he skipped clay after 2011 alltogether

Good decision. People should realise he is 40 - pushing his body excessively could lead to another injury. Last time he did this in AO20 and he was forced to sit out for 14 months. Anyway Wimbledon is his main focus so it wouldn't be wise to invite another injury just before Wimbledon.
