Novak Djokovic has expressed his desire to compete and win a medal at the 2024 Olympics after his disappointment at the Tokyo Games.

The world number one revealed he does “not see the finish line” of his career and identified the Olympics as an event that inspires him to continue playing.
The 34-year-old was defeated in the bronze medal match in the men’s singles event in Tokyo, after falling to Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals.

Djokovic then withdrew from the mixed doubles bronze medal match – after he and his partner Nina Stojanovic lost to the Russian pair of Aslan Karatsev and Elena Vesnina in the last four.

“Three years [until the 2024 Games] – not that far, but on the other hand it is, since I do not have 25 years anymore. I do not see the finish line of my career,” the Serbian said in a press conference.

“Olympics, Davis Cup, ATP Cup, and the Grand Slams, those are the tournaments that inspire me the most to go on. It is a privilege to play for Serbia, I want to play in Paris. If I am there, I hope to win a medal.”

The Paris 2024 Olympics would be Djokovic’s fifth Games appearance. He has won one medal – bronze in singles on his debut at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

His real goal should be to not kill anyone in his career. Yes, it may sound extreme, but the rage he displays is not normal, eventually someone will get very badly hurt.
has he hurt your feelings by eclipsing your favorite player? Novak does that to people ;)

Djokovic's goal should not be to medal at the 2024 games. It should be to show up and play with good sportsmanship and set a good example for children. That should be his only focus after his display this week on the global olympic stage.

“It was an emotional outburst and it happens. It’s not the first time and not the last time, probably,” he said.
“It’s not nice of course but it’s part of, I guess, who I am. I don’t like doing these things. I’m sorry for sending this kind of message but we’re all human beings and sometimes it’s difficult to control your emotions.”

Next Olympics he'll be 37 years old, have 3 moar years of wear, tear, and decline. And it'll be played on clay.

I am almost certain he'll retire by the end of 2023. Yesterday statement that he'll play in Paris 2024. was said after two heartbreaking losses, it was a hot-headed statement. After/if he wins 2, 3 or more Slams, he'll be satisfied with his career achievements and placement in the GOAT debate and he'll retire.

I'm glad Djokovic wants to continue playing at least through 2024. I enjoy his game. I hope that he, like Agassi, finds the character that will make him beloved. It is often when players are on the downside that they find it. Lleyton Hewitt certainly became less of an a** in decline than he was on the top of the sport.

Nobody said he'll be #1 and the main favorite.

I would be surprised if he wasn't at least "around". Paris 2024 seems like the most ambitious endpoint for Nadal IMO

why are people surprised he wants to play 3 years from now at 37 when Roger is still playing at almost 40?
Must still believe only Fed can play well at his age?

Tbh I make no claims about still winning Slams but I find it hard to see him drop out of the top 10 before then.

Same tought :) i hope he will not be obsessed by a victory at the O.G like Serena with her 24th Grand Slam title and Federer with a new title at Wimbledon...

nothing to do with whether on not he will play well at that age

I’m just not surprised he still wants to play at that age
