Would Federer beat Justine Henin if...

....Justine was serving through the whole match and Federer was only allowed to slice on the forehand and backhand? Meaning the only way he could win a point, more or less, would be to slice and come to the net and win the point from there. Or of course make a dropshot.....

What do you think?

Federer will still beat Henin 6-0 6-0 with ease. It's not even going to be competitive. Enough with the men vs women already !!

I have also had enough about comparing mens tennis vs the womens, but I thnk the above is quite interesting and could be close..

I know all about how bad, even the best women's players in the world are to male players just ranked inside the top 1000. The best female players dont stand a chance...

That effectively means Federer will not hit a winner from the baseline. The dropshot is most effective when unanticipated, i.e. the threat of a hard topspin stroke. If you don't hit hard topspin strokes, the opponent can hog the baseline, and the dropshot is ineffective.
Henin's topspin shots are faster and more offensive than Federer's slices. It won't be close.

The real question is could Daniel Thomson beat Justine Henin if...

....Daniel was serving through the whole match and Justine was only allowed to slice on the forehand and backhand? Meaning the only way she could win a point, more or less, would be to slice and come to the net and win the point from there. Or of course make a dropshot.....

that not enough of a handicap.

When Connors played Navratilova, he could only serve second serves (one serve a point) and he had to play singles court area while Navratilova could play the doubles court area.

Fed would win if he played with his right leg and using toes to grip the racket.;)

Sorry, but one of the most ridiculous questions posed....are you just joking or are you serious? Hope that you were just looking for a laugh and not serious.

She might have a chance if Federer had one hand tied behind his back as well, and he was only allowed to hit backhands.

I'm sorry but I really don't see the point. What is it trying to achieve? How much of a handicap is a handicap?

Suppose Federer wins. SO? Hoorah for male chauvinists.

Suppose Henin wins. SO? Hoorah for feminists.

Given that Federer hits a one handed backhand and forehand and in the hypothetical only Henin is serving what is the purpose served with tying a hand behind his back?

When did that take place? What were the results? I'd love to see a video of that.

The Washington Post Jul 29, 1992

"[Martina Navratilova], who has won a record 159 career singles titles, said it would be virtually impossible for her to beat [Jimmy Connors], who owns the men's record of 109 singles titles, without the handicap. Originally, she wanted all of both alleys, a format used during one-set competitions between men and women in the 1970s (Navratilova defeated Roscoe Tanner, 6-4, in the only "official" match she has played against a man). But Connors insisted he was too old to cover that much ground and Navratilova agreed to use only half of the alleys.

Because of the handicap - Connors has to cover part of the doubles alleys and gets only the one serve, although Navratilova has to return it to the half of the court from which Connors served - Jimbo has pledged to get in better shape by summer's end. "I should be ready to play, but it's not going to be an easy task," he said."

Jimmy Connors defeated Martina Navratilova in a quasi-tennis match last night, and the defeat was mostly her fault. Or mostly her double fault, to be exact. Connors, a 6-1 favorite, scored a 7-5, 6-2 victory before a sellout crowd of 13,832 outdoors at Caesars Palace. Both came to play and not to create an event along the lines of Bobby Riggs' infamous "Battle of the Sexes" with Billie Jean King at the Astrodome in Houston 19 years earlier.

I know what if Federer is playing two women, who are allowed to return into the doubles court on Federer's side and Federer has to return to the singles court, and Feds is only allowed to hit backhands and serve underarm and has one serve only, oh and to make it really tough his raquet has no strings and he has to play barefoot.
