While I have not tried the Tourn80 Spin, I have used the Super 880 and 850 strings. Overall I would say they are pretty good string if you are not a major string breaker. Here is a list of the Yonex strings tested by the USRSA. Stiffness ranged from 136 to 242lbs/in across all Synth and Multi strings tested. Tension loss ranged from 8.05 to 20.20lbs, with Gut string coming in at 5.57 to 11.91lbs of loss for all Gut brands tested. So you can see that the Yonex string fall into some good company.

STRING Gauge Stiffness Tension Loss (lbs)
Tough Brid 125 (cross) 1.35 185 12.02
Tour Super 880 TiSoft 16L 1.28 188 9.77
Tour Super 850 16 Nylon 1.31 190 10.89
Tournament 80 Spin 15L 1.35 194 11.33
Tour Super 850 Pro 16 1.34 196 11.13
Tournament 50 16L 1.29 198 11.53
Tough Brid 130 (cross) 1.40 199 11.90

Sorry for the layout, I cannot get the columns to align properly. Hope this helps.

Yonex Tour Super 850 Pro Spin 16
Yonex Tournament 80 Spin 15L-16g

These two I like most. I like them tensioned somewhere at the 60 lbs range.

Thanks guys for the replies. A few more questions:

How do the 3 strings from Yonex Feel range compare to each other?

TOUR SUPER 850 PRO

TOUR SUPER 850

TOUR SUPER 880Ti Soft

Which is the closest to natural gut in terms of feel?

Which has the most power?

880Ti is the softest so it's best for the arm, but what is the exact difference between 850 and 850 pro?

And how durable are they compared to say Technifibre NRG2 16 gauge?

Stan

Yonex multis tend to have a unique muted feel about them. I actually like them a lot. They play well. With this said, none really remind me of natural gut.

The 880ti has the most power of the 3...by far. It is also the least durable.

The Super 850, IMO, is the best of the lot. The 850 Pro is thicker and stiffer. The Super 850 is more responsive and smooth.

All of them blow away the NRG2 which IMO is very average in that it is not durable and loses playing properties very quickly. The Yonex multis play fresh for a good long period of time.

Maestro, if I were moving away from NRG2, and considering those last two Yonex strings, I wouldn't move to Yonex for what they do. I would choose Babolat's new one out, Xcel Power. I could also imagine preferring Babolat's Syntronic Brio or even Tecnifibre's new Multi-Feel to the 850 Pro.

On the TW customer feedback pages, both Super 850 and 880ti had some negatve comments and rated as average cheap synthetic guts. Whereas 850 Pro gets the most praises of all Yonex strings and is sold out till late December?

Good to hear about the plus on the tension department. One reason I'm switching from NRG2 is it breaks too easily, the last NRG2 17 only lasted me 2 weeks.

Have you tried both strings? Another reason I want to try Yonex is because I just started using RDS001MP and want to see if Yonex frames work better with their own strings?

Then by all means start with those two. Indeed, with your commitment to trying them out anyhow, I'm wondering that you even bothered to come in here asking our opinion! Here are some excerpts from USRSA playtesting in 1999 and 2001, when they came out, too, though, all the same:

Super 850: "The message is loud and clear, 'Comfortable string.' Opinions vary, however, regarding durability, power, touch and string movement. This string is best suited for players experiencing arm problems or who are looking for a very quiet, comfortable string that still offers a lively, powerful feel.

We are most impressed by its resistance to fraying and peeling. We recommend you try it and test it on customers who have complained about other multifilaments in the past."

Super 850 Pro: "Tour Super 850 Pro scored average ratings above 3 in every category except spin potential. We found this interesting for two reasons. First, spin was supposed to be one of the things this string was designed to enhance. Perhaps the thicker gauge reduced spin by more than the Power-Spin Coating could help. The second thing we found interesting about the ratings is that it scored above average in almost every category, and yet at least half of the playtesters rated overall playability as lower than the strings they use most often. This may be a sign that many of the playtesters have already found their ideal strings. This is why we ask them to rate the individual characteristics of the string instead of just the overall playability."

TW strung my Demo with Yonex ATG 850. i thought it was a great string, great spin and great control. It suprised the heck out of me since i had never played with Yonex strings before. Are other Yonex strings just as good or better?

Don't get me wrong I do value all suggestions from you and people on this forum. I was just curious to hear your opinions on both brands of strings (Yonex and Babolat) if you happen to have tried them. And thanks for the excerpts. I think I will start with the 850 Pro and Xcel Power.

Cheers:)

The Super 850, IMO, is a better overall performer than the 850Pro, in spite of what posters have written.

Is THAT what you meant? Was I *familiar* with Babolat and Yonex?

I guess I didn't imagine you could mean that when I had already represented them in my first post and offered the suggestions I had.

Yes you did. But I was looking for more specific answers like in what areas are Xcel Power, Syntronic Brio or even Tecnifibre Multi-Feel, better than the Yonex strings? As you know it takes a lot of time and money to try different string setups. So if you happen to have first hand experience with them and are care to share a bit more. I would very much appreciate your time. But don't feel obliged to do so. You have already been kind enough to name those strings that you think are better. I might just have to find out the rest myself.

Cheers

More precise feel, better control; how's that?

I liked the performance of the 880ti. It did not hold tension as well as the other two, was a bit more powerful, but it was the most comfy of the three. The problem for me was durability. It just did not hold up as well. In terms of playability I would rate the Super 850 1st, the 880ti 2nd and the 850 Pro 3rd. Those are my personal preferences.

It makes a difference how you string these too. I've noticed with stretchy multis that a lockout machine makes them feel noticeably more cushy. I actually liked the 850 pro best on my constant pull, but I strung it much more loosely than I would most strings. I liked it around 52-54lbs whereas with NXT or syn gut I would string around 60lbs. I've since switched to poly though because multis just don't last me very long any more.

Ok What is the best string Yonex makes ? which one is it?

Depending on your preference on feel, spin and power these are the best three from Yonex for maximum playability.

From Yonex.com

TOUR SUPER 850 PRO = Durability, comfort, 11% more spin

TOUR SUPER 850 = Great Power and Response with the Feel of Natural Gut.

TOUR SUPER 880Ti Soft > Softest and most powerful

why do they not make the 17g strings? I had super850 on a demo and i thought it gave more spin than polys. is this possible?

Is tour super 850 pro a same string as tour super 850 but more spin ?? or are they completely different string ? you say feel of gut for super 850 but not 850 pro ?

Like Head, Yonex apparently prefers to promote 16L as a practical compromise; as you are doubtless aware too, some prominent online string retailers would not stock any of the thinner gauges no matter who made them.

There is just no established, common standard yet for gauges, but Yonex's and Head's, by most estimating, seem to fall closer to 16L. Some people herein have purchased micrometers just so they know; hey, join the club! (And when you get into this, your next comment might well become "They're frequently not the same gauge all the way through, though!")

Yonex strings have made believer out of me. I used to think they are crap. I am going to buy the tour 850 pro, i tried the 850 cause it came with the demo and i thought it was a Babolat natural gut with Poly luxilon like spin. it was my surprise that i found out it was a multifilament string. do you think i will like the 850 pro better than 850 ?

Other than the gauge difference, 850pro/1.32mm & Super850/1.30mm, the 850pro has a special Power Spin coating which is said to offer 11% more spin.

The recommended tension for 880ti is below 55lbs (very low IMO) so I strung it at 50lbs on my TT warrior. It felt very powerful, as much as the NRG2 (16) I had before. Which is not bad considering NRG2 being rated as the most powerful multi on the market.

Any idea which of these strings would play closest to NXT Max 16?

Am currently using NXT Max as crosses hybrided with SPPP. I am looking for a cheaper alternative to NXT Max.

Tecnifibre's Multifeel, Babolat's Syntronic Brio, or Prince's Synthetic Gut Multifilament could stand in for that one....

No experience with NXT Max but I can tell you Prince Synthetic Gut Multifilament is pretty close to Super 850 in terms of power and durability.

Hey i found a perfect combination of hybrid today for Yonex RQIS tour-2 racket. Pro Hurricane tour in the main and Technifibre X-1 biphase in the crosses, 60/58 lbs. It offered perfect blend of power and control. Do you guys think Pro hurr and Yonex 850 tour pro will work just as well ?

Don't see why not they should work just fine. Tried them and let us know :)

How do you like the RQiS 2 by the way? I'm going to demo one soon want something more forgiving on the serve with extend length.

It is a great racket for serving, i hit at least 1 ace every game i serve. on the groundies, i use alot of topspin so i don't have trouble keeping the ball in play. and Volleys, the racket is very quick and plenty of punch, especially good in half volleys. very stable on the half volleys which was a surprise. the swingweight is about 321. 326 by TW was a bit high from what i can tell.

Yonex strings rule! I use all of them, depending on what I'm doing. In short: 80 for control, 880 for awesome power, 850 for something in between.

the ti, isn't that titanium string ? Isn't that too harsh ? does it give you much spin ?

are you gentlemen into hybridizing yonex strings or just a straight shot sort of deal.

I prefer towards a single set of string for my racquets when it comes to multi's. I think im definitely going to try the 850 or the 850 pro on my rdss001 mid.

I used to use Rqs-11 and i feel tour-2 is so much of a better racket, especially on the serves. tour-2 has little more swingweight which is good since it will produce more heavier balls. i have RDS001 also, tour-2 has more power and about the same in control

Missed this follow up:) do you have the 001 mid or midplus? I would've thought tour-2 has less control than either 001?

The tour 2 is a bit more head heavy than all the other Yonex racquets I have tried and so far I have problem serving with it. I always serve better with a more head light racquet. Maybe I need more time with it...

I had 880ti on my POG a few weeks ago, it had as much power as NRG2 16 but lasted 3 times longer (3 weeks verse 1 week from NRG2):)
