Another note: The guy in the near court is an @$$^%&&. Check the ball he called "OUUUUUT!!!!!111" on 1:57...also he keeps yelling to himself like a nutcake. Not to mention his constant butt shaking

That's a funny video. The guy nearest the camera is so cocky (in a funny way). Watch at 2:00 when the ball hits a couple inches inside the baseline and he calls it long... :lol:

I too switched halfway to the 4.0 singles, and I can hardly believe the 4.0 rating. The forehand is a joke. (My self-rating would prolly be 3.0)

To me it seemed like his hand is always outstretched. I am not talking of a straight-arm fh in which the wrist is still bent. (This is the 4.0 #1 clip, I am talking of.)

yeah i played that back too and saw the ball in, it never even touched the line and where he pointed to was 4/5 inches to the right of it, what a douchhh

Definitely 3.5 players. There really are not a whole lot of 3.5 players who have pretty strokes. There are alot of ugly serves and strokes at that level. I honestly think that 3.0 and 3.5 players look almost the same, except that the 3.5 players are a little bit better. 4.0 seems to be where you start seeing players who you would actually enjoy watching.

Well unless the 3.5 players I've played aren't really 3.5s but higher, I notice a complete difference in a 3.0 and a 3.5. That video is not the 3.5s I normally see. If that was the case, I'd gladly play #1 singles in my 3.0 league. haha

but seriously that video is awful. It just looks like they are practicing. And the guy in the near court is annoying.. calling 'in' balls out.. bouncing around too much. ick.

Josherer: Given that you think you are a 20 based on this video, and that you rated a 5.x player 3.0 (with video that indicated at least 4.5 level play)... I think you should never post on the topic of NTRP again.

So do you play actual USTA league or just play against club 3.5 players? I actually played a 7.0 mixed match and the male opponent was a C-rated 4.0 and I feel like the guys in the video look at least as good as him. I even think that I was better than my opponent (I'm C-rated 3.0), but that is probably not the case because doubles can have some weird dynamics. So the point is, looks can be deceiving.

I used to play with 3.5 and now with 4.0 and some 4.5.

I noticed people( most of the time) are more fair in calling the lines as the rating goes higher & higher.

Thanks a lot. I have very few proud moments in my Tennis. However looking at this video i felt very proud. They arent bad (no one is bad when playing tennis) just that their rating doesnt seem to make sense.

I played a lot better than them as a 3.0 pusher.

Given my game right now, as compared to them, i think i shud be playing challengers and get into main draws....may be an US open night session featuring Tennis_monk Vs Tennis great Roger federer isnt that far fetched.

I actually do have a winning record against Roger federer-- Play station tennis.

I wonder if it's possible that they were too nervous to performance at their true level. ?????

Truth to be told I could do some very nice, consistent strokes and slices against wall and somebody's tossing to me, but I couldn't do nowhere near 50% of that in games.

Take a video. Upload it to youtube. Post it in a thread! People respond. Use words like "video" "rate me" and so forth, and it gets peoples attention.

I didn't play D1, but from my limited experience, I would expand that to say that most D1 players are between 5.0 and 6.0, with a few (very few) outliers past 6.0 or below 5.0.

Technically, any D1 player ranked in the top 75 individually ****or**** playing for a top 75 team can be considered a 6.0, based on the USTA guidelines, but I find this unreasonable. I would imagine many 5.5 level players could compete evenly and often surpass players further down the lineup on some of these teams.

what camera angle is best for evaluation? if these guys are 3.5 i think ive finally reached 3.5 or maybe better... o__o who knows? when its sunny ill get some evaluation material and you guys can rate me (; so for the tape, forehands, backhands, serves?

I personally think the behind view is the best. Preferably 4+ feet off the ground (on tennis bag, tied to fence, etc).

I think people need to play more tournaments to see where they stand.

I have a friend that I play games with consider himself a 3.5 player, when I'm better than him and I consider myself a 3.0 player.

Completely agree. What do these people think, that 3.5 players are ripping shots off both wings with consistency?? LOL This is typical 3.5 play.

I think it has nothing to do with how good the strokes look at all. U r 3.5 if you can consistently beat 3.0 and 4.0 if you can consistently beat 3.5. That's the whole point! If you have Federer-like groundstrokes but couldn't win 3.5 match, you are still a 3.0.

And to think I've been mad about being demoted to 3.5. I could cream both these guys without even trying. If they're the barometer for 3.5s I should have a good year. :)

I called our club pro and had him watch this and the 4.0 vid. In his words, "3.0 at best, with so many 2.5 characteristics." No pace, no consistancy, could not string more than one shot together. No placement skills, playing a tournament with 1 ball?

I'm in a 3.5-4.0 league. Seriously, these guys would not win a single game in our league. Perhaps we are rated too low, but those patty-cake serves would get eaten alive. These guys are beginners, total beginners. The 4.0 guys looked like the 3.5 guys in my league at best.

He has won many National awards in teaching, coaching, and playing. You must be one of these 3.5 players who cant even keep the ball in play with these patty cake strokes.

I'm sorry, but if your club pro is telling you that those players are 3.0 at best, he is most likely an idiot. People who make absolute, limiting statements on issues with room for interpretation are typically idiots.

My own level of play has nothing to do with this.

NTRP Rating for 3.0: You are fairly consistant when hitting medium paced shots, lacking in execution when trying for directional control, depth and power.

Sounds exactly like these guys. Their shots weren't even medium paced! They weren't even consistant to hit the ball more than once or twice! And this is for 3.0. These guys were playing for #1 in 3.5? Not close. 3.0 yes, at best. Even 2.5 can consistantly hit slow paced balls.

Those guys are 3.0. The Indian guy stands in the middle of the deuce side while shaking his ass on serve returns and the thin guy likes to slice every single forehand. They need to improve to become true 3.5s.
