Congrats, McLovin! I was worried I threw off your game with my go for broke tactics. Looks like you are rocking out. Keep it up!

Thanks for the props. And no, Auzzie, you didn't throw me off. If anything, you helped me realize I need to relax & breath out there.

Yeah, he was a really good 4.0 player. A lefty w/ a lefty kick serve. Unfortunately for him, my father is a lefty, and I grew up returning that serve, so it really wasn't a factor, and I'm sure he relies on free points off it.

In addition, I noticed early on that his 1 handed BH had problems w/ balls above the shoulders. I realized that I could simply roll a heavy topspin FH cross court during a rally and get either an error or a short ball I could attack. I served really well also, and he seemed to have a problem reading it.

The funny thing is that during the warm up, I thought "****, he's good. This might be a tough match." I gotta stop evaluating people during the warm up. I can get me in trouble both ways.

Now I get the #3 seed tomorrow @ 10. Luckily for me, his 1st round opponent never showed, so I'm his 1st match. Maybe he'll be a little cold.

You are absolutely right about pre-defeating yourself or over-relaxing as a result of a warm up. I always try to use the warm up for drafting a game plan and getting myself as ready as possible for the match, realizing no one is going to beat you in warm ups. Match play/ point construction is much more dependant on your opponent(s)'s ability to handle pressure situations. Were you feeling more confident on your first volleys today (you mentioned your volleys after our match on Wednesday)? Keep trusting your solid all court game, and give the #3 all he can handle!!!

p.s. Sunny disposition for you, but I'm a little upset that I won't have an MComp for the Santa Bowl now :)

Dude. Your ankle(s?) are SWOLLEN. You want to make it worse? Please, by all means, come on out tomorrow...but there's no way you're going to play on it if it is swollen. Don't mess with your ankles.

Auzzie...the Ukrainian brings up a good point. Why in the world are you *not* just buying the Fischer?

Its like an itch I get inside... I do see both of your points

Vitaly, however I would respond to your shockey face with my own shockey face: How many times did you try the Microgel Prestige Mids before purchasing??:razz:

^^its much better now. i'll be ready.

Ankles are a tough injury to deal with. I do not have enough tape/prewrap, but if you pick some up, I can tape your ankles for you. I have had alot of practice.:)

Auzzie, if I were you (take this with a grain of salt, of course), I would get just one. Then play with it for a bit, maybe a month. Hopefully, you would like it more and more, and then be ready to buy more. That was my plan with the kTour (also because I only had funds for one), and now I know I made the right choice, and I'm ready to buy more.

If for some reason you fall out of love with it, you can either keep it for your collection, or sell it and keep looking. See...nothing scary about it! :)

TWMAC (team Blue) took 1st place in the Santa Bowl.

TFM and I got unlucky our last match, and it made me realize that I desperately need my own frames.

McLovin, what's the report on the tournament?? I may order the MComp's through Sup, I am checking things out...

Congratz guys, well done another win for the TWMAC.
Also, thanks everyone for putting up with my poor play and especially my partners for carrying me through the matches. Unfortunately Toe-peezy drew the short stick and had to play doubles with me. Sorry bout that :-/
I had a few moments where I played like a normal person, but I am still a mental midget most of the time.

Good to see everyone again, and we college boys are still around the area so if anyone wants to get together for a hit. Let us know! I am living in the Shirlington area most of the time now :)

I wanted to join for Dogfish, but I needed to see to the flat tire I discovered when I walked out this morning with my tennis gear on...not a great thing when I was hurrying a bit lol.

McLovin, what's the report on the tournament??

I experienced the "Tournament Cardinal Sin". Up 4-2 in the 1st set, I thought "hey, I might actually be able to beat this guy". I then proceeded to lose the next 10 games, going down 6-4, 6-0.

Honestly, neither of us were playing well at 4-2, but once I started thinking I might be able to win, I tightened up, and he picked his game up. I never recovered. Oh well, it was fun. Plus, he lost in 3 to the #1 player from George Mason, so I don't feel that bad.

I may order the MComp's through Sup, I am checking things out...

Well, I popped a string in my 1st set (had no effect on the outcome), so if we can setup a time this week, I could string it up once more w/ all CyberBlue and you could get another test drive.

Good to hear you guys had fun today. I probably could have made it since my match was over ~ 11:15, but I got a bunch of stuff done at home. It was a nice day to be outside.

Well done TWMAC,

"El Jefe" is proud. Its fun to report that I actually had to defend everyone's ranking to the other team captains. A lot of "he's a 3.5?". Then Shcmad would hit a serve or PP would hit a backhand and they would get quiet.

So tournament summary per Sup:

- TFM and Auzzie played stupendous but had no easy time in their #1 doubles spot. TFM is still shopping around for a new racquet while Auzzie is well.. still looking.

- PrestigeProLover and Shcmad may have been the shortest team out there, but they put on a good show, winning all their matches. Its fun to watch how much enthusiasm PPL has and how he tried to get Shcmad out of his Safin state of mind. Shcmad on the other hand improved each match. Shintan, he def had less shanks and mishits than any other time I've seen him play (40%).

-Topaz racquet was the talk of the peanut gallery. As we ALL watched her play... pause.... in the first match, the consensus was that her racquet really responds to her game. That it gives her a lot of control.

-PurePrestige came out rockin the K90 and held his own with Topaz. He tried and tried and helped win a couple close sets and tiebreaks. His first serve makes a nice crack sound, then again so does he when he double faults (insert wookie noise).

-Team HW and Vitaly were unstoppable. Just like a Citizen watch. They took out eveyone including 2 zapvor look a likes. Vitaly played out of his mind up until he had bolivian chicken (insert gas sound).

-All the match games are tallied up and compared to the other team. We won the whole event after Shcmad and PPL won their last match giving us a nice cushion that couldn't be overtaken.

This wasn't a paying gig for me yesterday, but it was fun being "Patrick McEnroe" again for the team. Carol says the team is def formidable and that its easy to see that we are all comfortable with each other out on the courts. I responded .. well you should see them drink and eat.. they are 6.0s for sure!

was it me or was someone taking pictures yesterday... care to post??:)

Sup, any other methods you have for acquiring MComp's?

As far as yesterday is concerned, I agree with Sup's recap. Except I felt I played far from stupendous. The missed returns, errant down the line shots, and shabby serves are clouding my memory.

Vitaly was serving up a storm yesterday! Dare I say I may have seen some kick!?! I think I may have even been privy to one handed volleys, as well!

HW was being the scrappy Aranxta Sanchez Vicario-type. He was digging out tons of shots that would have gone for winners against most people, and then winning the points as well!

PPL, it was nice to meet you, and Sup is spot on about that enthusiasm. I never got to watch you compete because we were always playing at the same time, but in warm ups you definitely looked better than your self rating.

PP, once again that serve. I have never seen someone ace opponents so consistently with kick serves! "Kick is your friend" said knowledgeable and wise TFM.

I gotta say Schmad must add more weight to his frame than I could even consider adding... Produces a heavy ball!

TFM, thanks for being my partner, despite neither of us playing close to our potential. We were Team Racquetless, Walking Wounded. The strings on my donnay popped after about 15 min, and you had just acquired JRK's sticks w/out having hit with them yet. So neither of us had equipment we were comfortable with. On top of that, your back, your hand, your feet, my back, my arm the laundry list of injury problems was quite long. We somehow got through our matches, and should have gotten through the last one. But who knew that shots on the line are considered out these days??

And what can you say about a girl who has found her soulmate: Topaz even hitting in the warm ups, I noticed a little more weight of shot and ease of stroke with the KTour. It seems to just click with your playing style. Congratulations! I hope to find that perfect racquet for myself someday!

thanks guys, that was a lot of fun!
my trophy case is now overflowing w/ Turkey Bowl, Santa Bowl, and NVTL trophies. year of the Evchenkov is coming!!!!!

my top moments,

1) shanking that overhead that ended up being a dropshot and spun back onto our side for a winner! thanks to PPL for witnessing it! i've never won a point like that in my life (although i've shanked plenty of overheads).

2) we will have to study the videotape... but... i might've hit a kick serve! ALERT THE AUTHORITIES! even when it didn't kick i was doing pretty good at placing the ball deep into the backhand side and constructing the point from there. (almost like i am thinking on the court! )

3) after blasting the net man with returns i REALLY enjoyed summoning my inner TFM and hitting a topspin lob that left them looking silly. so sweet.

4) several times i would miss a poach, leave my side of the court open and leave Hollywood to scamble around to cover my mistake. then i would spend the rest of the point ducking at the net.

6) the old Vitaly definitely would've double faulted on match point but not now... and then when I had the backhand shot down the line, I actually held it for a moment and instead of trying to crush it.. i smoothly hit it down the alley for a clean winner. VIKTORRRR!!!!!!!!

7) i need to work on my celebrations. i almost went to both kness in triumph before realizing my knees would hate that so i went to this weird crouch. even a Bryan brothers awkward chest bump would've been better.

8 ) i tried to eat a tennis ball after a missed volley... after the taste test.. i really think i could eat one.. not too bad!

9) Yonex RQis Tour 1 Ladies is an awesome racquet!!! Did you see Auzzie playing with it! He showed me how its done.

10) I think I actually called off HW to hit an overhead, ran over there and smashed the bejeezuz out of it and said pretty loudly right next to their bench "GET THAT **** OUTTA HERE!". I could feel them giving me the stink-eye. I probably deserved it.. I'm kind've an azz out on the court! oopzzy

11) PP crushed a serve into some ladies leg.... but he won the point!!! wOO!

12) TFM slices the return short and cross-court and his next shot will be a lob. Works 80% of the time too!

13) It appears in this tourney there was a 50% chance your opponent will be a) asian b) wearing a glove c) use a super Oversize racquet d) never miss a volley

14) Treat Huey is next. Bring it!!!! Ca-caw!!

15) I saw Shcmad hit a medium paced serve and several medium paced forehands to win the point or force an error. I couldn't believe my freekin eyes!! He is LEARNING!!! way to go siccy!

16) Chugging beer is fun! Thx Sup!

17) Props to HW for bringing the King Sized Snickers.

18 ) Sup vs. Randy next week. GETCHA POPCORN READY!!!

Also, it was fun taking TheJrk's money on his birthday.

Recap:

Sup: Bet you $5 bucks you cant guess HWs weight by +-5lbs.
TheJrk: What .. 5 lbs!?
Sup: Make it $10 bucks and I'll give you +-10lbs.
TheJrk: Oh you are so on! bet!
Sup thinks *what is it with asians and gambling*
TheJRK: HW is 220
Sup: I'll take my money now.
HW laughs.

Just checked the herndon tournament. French Frankie, who has had little success against me got a walk over the #1 seed who pulled out and another one right after! He made the semis playing one match.

I dropped my jaw when i saw he took the #5 seed to three sets in the semi. The same #5 seed who won in 3 against Mclovins guy, the #3 seed.

*shakes fist at wookie*

Catch-22 i say.

oh man, my ankles hate me right now but i had such a blast. it was so worth it. here's my recap...

- thanks to shcmad, hollywood, and sup for bailing me out that first match. this was my first team competition where i had people cheering me on (thanks pureprestige and topaz!!) but i was still a nervous wreck. i think you could hear my legs shaking 3 courts away.

-thanks to shcmad for being a great partner. you have such a lethal forehand. everytime we would get to duece, you would always take the serve because i knew you would either just murder that ball for a winner or set me up for an easy volley.

-watching hollywood totally tear it up on court. he was getting to every ball on that baseline that otherwise should have been a winner.

-vitaly totally shanking an overhead that had so much spin on it that it dropped over to the opponent's side but then bounced back. first time i've ever seen something like that in person ever. if only we caught that on video.

-watching TFM and auzzie play together. it was awesome being able to watch some really really high level doubles. i might try to do the hand signals on my next match but i'll probably end up putting up random signals cause i'll be too excited that we're actually doing hand signals.

-topaz just sticking our her raquet and hitting a volley that went right at her feet and not knowing that she got it back. and pp just cracking up in the middle of the court.

-pp beaming that girl in the leg. i felt bad for that girl cause everyone could hear that ball pop off her leg. but hey, we won the point!!

-topaz's awesome cookies. i was starving cause i just woke up and went straight to skyline. they were the perfect snack in between matches.

-sup taking everyone's money at dogfish. well except for vitaly who actually won a dollar but then got screwed from the "split food" charge.

it was an awesome awesome time. i'm really liking the team aspect. it was nice to have people cheering you on. hopefully we can do it again soon. :)

Yes, For that price, I would be saving...about the cost of 1 racket, so its worth it for me to return my other 3. I have until the 8th to return them.

Congratulations to all of TWMAC!

It was great fun playing with you guys as a team.

-I'd like to say "thank you" to my doubles partner for pulling us through the matches, and for helping me get out of my Safin-state-of-mind.

-Before meeting with PrestigeProLover Sup told me that his attitude on court is the polar opposite of mine. Most of the time, Sup isn't good at describing people, but I'm afraid he was correct this time. Playing doubles with PPL was like constantly sipping on Red Bull during the match. Every time I was down on myself, he just kept smiling and urging me on. Let's not forget about his tennis. I couldn't believe it when you chased down some shots that were deemed to be winners. Also, you never missed a return, which is pretty damn incredible. It was a pleasure playing with you. Considering it was our first time playing together, we should be proud of winning our matches. :)

-PP, what can I say? We pwnEd dem all, y0. It was super tizziiitez. They went through five players just to try to beat us yet we pulled through in straight sets. You didn't even need to get your first serves in cuz all five had trouble returning your 2nd serves. That was possibly the best doubles match we've played in the past 3 years (with the exception of those doubles matches we played against those VT n00bz when I used to have the 1-handed backhand with the Head Instinct).

-Young Jeezy ... I mean Toe peezy! I noticed in your first match that you were returning much better with the new racquet. Way to go! Thanks for the cookies. I don't think I would have made it through the day without them chocolate chip cookies. Russians need sugar to play well.

-Hollywood, I really envy your 1st and 2nd deliveries. I just wanna say I was lucky to be on the same team as you.

-Mr. Evchenkov, thanks much for the compliments. But, I don't consider hitting "medium pace" balls as something progressive. Haha. You are Ukrainian. You should know all about "hard and harder."

-Auzzie and TFM, you guys played great quality tennis even though neither of you were accustomed to your respective racquets. TFM, I've never seen you hit harder and flatter than yesterday. Auzzie, I hope to one day have such great movement and spin like you. :p

-Sup, thanks again for playing the role of P. McEnroe. Thank you for sticking with me even though I choked worse than a young Andre Agassi on crucial points. In the second-to-last match, I saw you shaking your head and covering your face with your hands after I missed a volley. Is that the reason for the gray hair? You can keep makin fun of my serve and spin, but you gotta admit that I was hitting with moderate spin yesterday.

I have only one reply:

Federer v Blake: 8 - 1 Federer
Nadal v Federer: 12 - 6 Nadal

So, if Federer dominates Blake, and Nadal owns Federer, it would make sense that Nadal would own Blake, correct? Wrong.

Blake v Nadal: 3 - 2 Blake (3 - 0 prior to 2008 season)
