Soderling's tactics were awful everything went in Federer's strike zone I didn't see him play one loopy ball to Fed's backhand.
You can't just one day decide " oh, I'll have one Nadal forehand with my sandwich please, love"
It doesn't exactly work like that, besides how are you going to direct everying there when Fed is making you run left and right all the time?

Not many people have the speed and strength to hit winners when they are out of position the way rafa does. I can't think of how many times Fed would dominate a point to see rafa hit an amazing forehand off his back foot for a winner.

I do agree with you, they should try it for a set and maybe it might just work. However you need a very good backhand to do that because Federer will target your backhand himself.

The reason i say this is because of the travesty of the Haas, Acasuso and Del Potro matches. Nadal, Murray or Djokovic would have put the match to rest.

How many players hit with the insane amount of spin Nadal does? Come on. There's a reason John McEnroe referred to him as "The Andy Roddick of Spin." Maybe the ball isn't bouncing up to Federer's neck on the backhand side because the non-Nadal players CAN'T do that.

As a coach, the truth is (I only watched the first 2 sets though..), Soderling was simply way to nervous to execute any strategy well. Just keeping the ball in play and/or hitting with purpose/aggression was impossible enough for him today.
