Why do pros carry around a racket bag and a duffel bag?

I've always wondered this. From what I've seen and experienced, ALL of a player's necessary gear can fit in their 6, 9, or 12 pack racket bag. What is in this second bad that the professionals carry around? Why don't they put it in their racket bag? Any answer's y'all?:confused:

Exposure for both brands.

Example: Roger Federer. Wilson frames in the racquet bag. Nike apparel...so a Nike manpurse.

Lleyton Hewitt: Yonex frames and apparel. One company. One bag.

Serena: Nike duffel, Wilson racquet bag.

As much as I dislike, and boycott NIKE, I liked when Sampras stuffed all his gear into one large black Nike duffle. No Wilson bag. Spartan. Cool.

Totally agree.

I'd just add that they seem to use them to carry pre-mixed hydration bottles. No, not margaritas. :twisted:

Still good enough to beat the likes of me... which is why I always carry 3 or 4 onto court with me... but in my liver, not wasted in a manbag for later! :grin:

Many/most pros carry 8+ racquets in their bags. Has anyone ever tried to pack that many racquets in their bags, & then gotten all their gear & accessories in it as well? I have, & it's impossible. When I play in tournaments, I do the racquet & duffle double, but if I'm going to play recreationally, I take some racquets out & don't carry as many accessories & extra shirts, shoes etc.

if my memory is correct, Agassi and Safin only carry a Head duffel bag.

I was in Shanghai last year for the Master Cup, Zimonjic only carry a Nike duffel bag, Ullyet only carry a Wilson deffel bag

yea thats what i thought to. cuz the mens side have to be ready to play 5 sets 4 hours matches and you cant get all that gear inside just a racket bag you need two bags. for you 8 rackets and all your t-shirts and random supplements.
i dont understand why woman bring two bags to a match. they play an hour 2 at the max of tennis then get off the court. no need for anything but a racket.

You travel with 8 sticks? Wow. You are a much, much better player/better prepared player than I've ever been (and I earned ATP points in the 90s).

Back when bags were skinny, I agree with tennisnj, you needed two bags or one huge duffle.

With the behemothbags in fashion today, I easily fit 4 sticks and a dozen wristbands and overgrips on one side (thermo-lined), all my extra clothing/accessories and an extra pair of size 14 shoes in the middle, and four or five Nalgenes and some sports drinks in the other thermo-lined side. I feel ready for five hours plus. I've used the same bag for an entire weekend trip, complete with casual clothes and jeans. I use poly and gut, and 4 sticks is plenty, really.

Anyway, I feel a traveling player at our levels needs more bag than a pro in some ways (2 matches per day plus dubs), unless you store half your stuff for a long week/weekend of tennis in your car or hotel room. Keep in mind, most pros have access to a lockerroom ... and they generally only play one match per day.

FYI, the plastic in Nalgene is a carcinogen, and seeps into the contents of the bottle, especially in hot weather. They were recalled a little while ago.

Slice bh compliment, I was just talking about attempting to fit everything in there, I don't carry 8+ racquets to my tournaments. I only carry 4 or 5 racquets on 1 side & then stuff non-clothing gear in the other, & then all my clothing in a duffle bag. (People laugh when I whip out a camper's stool out of my bag b/c most places don't have benches or seats for competitors, but I'm the one laughing when my opponents have to stand during a 3 hour match)
Unfortunately most of the places I play tournaments/recreationally are at public courts with little or no facilities for safe storage, changing, etc. Having to change in a car, or behind a bush is a real PITA.

Because he is contracted to carry a Wilson bag, but also wants to carry his RF purse. You know how cute and lovely it is.

Yeah, thanks, I hear they leech all kinds of evils into the water.

Well, not the BPA free ones. They are okay, unlike regular plastic / polycarbonate ones. Well either way, I'm not heating it, and I'm not grinding it up and eating the plastic.

I also use the steel ones by Kleen Kanteen. They really stay cool in the thermo-side. I'm impressed. I thought that was just a gimmick.

Hey Jolly, I live near Baldwin. 5 Exits away from exit 20s on the Southern State Parkway. I'm not so sure your friends would like to hit with a 14 year old though. I still hit accidental winners. I'm not good at feeding volleys and overheads to people either. But it'd be a pleasure to meet you!
