It looks like a large toy car, like one of those hotrod ones, or matchbox.

I prefer classy looking cars, that looks like a car a chav would buy if he won the lottery.

i don't. the rear looks ugly, and it also looks hazardous with the plate in the middle of the rear windshield. I never really liked how small the rear windshield are on sports cars.

Can somebody answer me this question...it seems like the newer generation cars have a more sheek and aerodynamic shell to them...I'm guessing this does not cost that much more in production than making a regular car...what costs more is whats inside the car right? So is it possible to make a regular car but with the shell of a newer 'concept' car and make it priced at like 28 grand? I don't know if i sound like a stupid idiot...

Agreed! They need to soften some of the lines and completely change the rear (which is hideous).

It looks good from the side, however :)

They are definitely going more for the current (angular) Cadillac look.

Well, it really does not matter how fast it is, how cartoonishly aggressive it looks, or how well it handles....you park it and go to bed....you wake up in the morning and it is still a ''Vette''. They really need to retire the name. But then they would lose the lucative Guido/Pimp/Hick/cokehead demographic, LOL@

To me, it looks like every other concept car. It's a stark contrast against current "mainstream" models that shows little true innovation and is more an exercise in aesthetics and aerodynamics. Not a big fan of the treatment of vehicles as a luxury item, instead of a mode of transportation though, so I may be a little bias.

The Corvette is a great American sports car from the day of it's inception. Most of the stereotypes you mentioned do not fit the Corvette at all.

BTW - The new ZR1 Corvette is the best bang for your buck performance wise among the worlds super cars. That and the current Z06 Corvette are highly desirable if you can afford to buy them.

This new concept vision of the Corvette leaves me with the same feeling some of you had, a mutant Cadillac on steroids.

I'm sorry but if I had the money to buy a ZR1 I would go European for whatever it can afford. Yes the Vette is fast, yes it can be flashy I guess but the Corvette would never be as prestigious as it's European counterparts. It has a rednecky and tacky vibe to it. You picture a Corvette and usually the people that drive it are middle aged guys or couples wearing tacky clothes or old style fade denims. I could never picture a young supermodel type in a Vette. I know I am being stereotypical and if I am possibly being offensive but just sharing my perspective on the matter.

I would say that cars are used as status symbols more than for the actual purpose of transportation.

But call it "luxury" or "status symbol", it's all the same - the intention is to show off.

As far as 'concept cars' go... 99% of 'concept cars' look very different - and more conservative - once they reach the dealer and the mass market.
The design of 'concept cars' is just to gain people's attention.

First of all, what are you going to buy, 1/4 or 1/3 of a car?
The ZR1 is roughly $100K, the Z06 is about $75K, and the base Corvette is $50k.
So while Lambos, Ferraris, etc. carry more prestige, they are also much more expensive.

I do not think you are being offensive, but I think your minds eye is picturing the wrong type of person who owns a Corvette. They are not cheap by any means, just inexpensive compared to exotic sports cars they out perform.
"Redneck types" would be much more likely to drive a hot rod truck, base Mustang, or similar car.
Now your image of middle aged men does hit the mark as many of them wanted Corvettes when they were young, but could not afford them.

When Rommil mentioned preferring the Corvette's European counterparts, he probably meant cars like the 911, R8, etc. Lambos and Ferraris are in a another class of cars, hence the price difference. When comparing the Corvette (regardless of model since the average person can't tell the difference by looking at it) to its European counterparts, the Corvette looks like the poor man's sports car.

Like Lakoste said, I was thinking more about the Porsche's and R8 which maybe a bit more money, the Lambo's and it's counterpart are definitely in a higher class. Regardless of the person's age, to me a person who buys a Corvette is a person who has money but can have better taste in cars. Yes the Corvette is fast, it just doesn't exude class.

You and Lakoste might prefer 911's and the like which is fine. I like European sports cars and exotics as well. However you are making the Corvette sound like a Firebird or some other lower end sports car. So if you want to compare apples to apples, what American sports cars do you think decent, or do you only appreciate European models?

BTW - The reason I assumed you were comparing Lambo's and the like to the ZR1 is because performance is everything when it comes to high performance sports cars. The ZR1 while not as stylish or refined, beats most of the exotics away at a fraction of the cost.

Well one can have money and not have taste. Expensive does not always equate refinement. I think that's the word I am looking for. I am not claiming I have money or exquisite taste but to me the American sports car are not as "refined" as the European counterparts. These are just my opinions of course and I have said more than enough to be insulting. I guess I am just saying if I had the money I wouldn't even look at buying a Corvette.
