Similar to ALU POWER?

What's very close to ALU POWER but cheaper?

I am breaking it about once a week and I am only playing an hour a day. That's about 1/4-1/6 of the amount I play in the summer so I was wondering what's close but cheaper then ALU POWER? I have Red code, Black code and MSV FOCUS HEX 18.

Any other strings?

Thank you!

You could try to get a sponsorship from Mantis, they are very easy. Their power poly is very similar to alu power imo.

If u break ALU Power in 5,6 hours, nothing save Kevlar is gonna last longer.
You could go the cheap route: Unique Big Hitter, Cyberflash, MSV, Pro Supex, PolyStar... if any of those last longer than 3 hours that's a win (Since most of them are half the price of the ALU)

...breaking it from topspin-induced friction/notching, or frame hitting?

You're either hitting it really hard or hitting it really badly.

True, there are two ways a string snaps very fast.
1) hitting it hard with lots of topspin and slice services.
2) hitting it near the frame constantly.

Most similar to ALU but cheaper I would give to Unique Big Hitter or Cyberflash. Durability will not be better but performance will be similar at half the price. Mantis power poly looks promising but I haven't hit it yet, visually similar and feels similar in the hand.

Unique Big Hitter seems to one of the best kept secrets on this site...nice price and very good product. I like it just a bit better than the CyberFlash. The other one that comes to mind is..Wilson Enduro 17 Pro (NOT THE TOUR). $90 for a reel.. many claim it plays very close to the ALU offering

"Comments: If you're familiar with Big Banger ALU Power, this is very similar. Enduro Pro is a little softer and doesn't handle really hard pace quite as well, but it is still very similar. It is definitely worth it for the savings in price. (I still want to try CyberFlash, though.) If you've never used a co-polymer string before, you'll find Enduro Pro to be hard and to require a big cut at the ball all the time.

Yeah I agree. I personally thought they were the same thing for a while, especially when they came out with Big Hitter Blue. I'm not so sure anymore, I can feel a difference I think but it could be in my head

Premier Ace is great for groundstrokes but it's awful on the serve... it'll turn a 120 MPH flat serve into a 90 MPH slice serve that you have to practically throw your shoulder out to hit. Even with the 1.20, which was my favorite. ALU works on groundstrokes and doesn't have the same disadvantage on the serve, at least not as badly.

But I just ran out, so I need to find something to replace it as my 'main' string (have a reel of Gosen for crosses).

Uh...no. In fact I think that's the exact opposite of ALU POWER.

I think it's interesting that BIG HITTER says it contains aluminum fibers...I wonder if it was intended to be a close copy of ALU down to the formula?

I wonder whether BIG HITTER or Enduro Pro is a closer replica of ALU...

For the record, Klipper Power Burst is intended to be similar to ALU, but it's almost as expensive, so for that price I'd rather go with a name brand like Wilson or Unique. I liked it when I used it though.

BETTER than ALU....

In my opinion, a string like Pro Supex's Big Ace is better than Luxilon ALU power. Here's my reasoning:

1.)This string is extremely soft for a poly. No arm problems, great feel.
2.) The ITF just came out with a study that says slippery strings, that slide against one another, NOT textured string, give you more spin. They don;t get more slippery and smooth than Big Ace.
3.) THE PRICE - You can get a reel of Big ace for about 1/3 the price of a reel of ALU. This means several things: a) You can cut out poor stringjobs or ones that have gone dead after a while because you can afford it. b) The fact that Big Ace is 1/3 the cost means you would have to break 3 sets of Big Ace to equal the cost of one stringjob of ALU (not including labor).
4.) It comes in different colors
5.) Any pro stringer will tell you (even roger fed has hinted at it) that Luxilon plays its best within the first few days of stringing. I have clients that will use my "loner racquet" (pro supex dynamic energy strung at 55lbs with Big Ace) and tell me they have never felt string with so much pop. The catch is I haven't had to restring it in about 8 months now.

Due yourself a favor and stop wasting your money to be part of the biggest sham in tennis - 90% of polys are so similar that in blind tests I have had students not even recognize the string that they themselves use!

Comparing ALU POWER to "90% of polys" is like comparing a $10,000 carbon fiber racing bike to a $1,000 aluminum one... you'll feel the difference, but it's probably going to take a professional to make the extra cost worth while.

If it wasn't special, you wouldn't have as many pros PAYING FULL PRICE to use it... or close to it (the pro price of an ALU reel is about $200).

OTOH, Big Ace is probably a better choice for the majority of players. I intend to try it again fairly soon...

NEGATIVE. Don't bother. Enduro Pro is not worth the cost it takes to string it.

Good call on the Silverstring, forgot that. Good softer alternative

+1
My suggestion, you beat me to it

Give Wilson Enduro Pro a try
Just no.

Cyberflash is a solid suggestion as well, a bit cheaper.

Oh and. of course, I can't resist.... Try the Jolly rig, you may be pleasantly surprised. It's one of my favorite hybrids.

I just realized how expensive ALU POWER is.

4 sets are around $63. Is Red or Blackcode good string?

Red Code is stiffer, and so plays closer to ALU. Very good all-round string. Black Code is softer; I wasn't a fan, but there are plenty on this board who are.

I think I'll go with Redcode in the mains and addiction or N VY in the crosses. I would go with Xcel but it's to expensive for it to break in 2-3 days.

so is it fair to say that the closest thing to luxlion alu power rough is big hitter tourna blue?

anybody tried both?

^^^ No, not the blue, but the regular gray Big Hitter. The blue is a lot softer than ALU.

You're either hitting it really hard or hitting it really badly.

I don't how he's having problems breaking his strings that fast... I mean I do both of those things, hit with topspin, or try to on nearly ever single forehand hit, and I have a boat load of mishits where I shank balls off the frame of my racket, the sides, the top, the throat, everywhere.

I got my Roddick Pure Drive Cortex Plus in like early August strung with just Pro Hurricane @ 59 lbs, and it was 18 gauge too and the strings were still going strong into January when I got it strung with PHT 17 gauge. I also used it in inclement weather conditions too, played when it was wet/rainy and several times when it was pretty cold out.

Yeah I guess when you have that many rackets lulz, and you break your strings ridiculously frequently. I bet anyone like 100 bucks I could make the Luxilon Big Banger Power Rough in my Babolat APDC last into 2011 if I really wanted to.

Dude just go for Cyberflash or Big Hitter. Seriously, LUXILON STRINGS ARE THE BIGGEST SCAM IN TENNIS HISTORY.
People think that pros use them because they are great. Yes, they are in the first 3-4 hours and after that plain crap. Why pros use them? Because most of them get it for free (wilson is in charge of luxilon marketing) and anyways they are cutting it almost everyday.

And the average tennis player just gets owned by the marketing and thinks that what pros use is the best for them when they should be using Synthetic Gut that costs 1/5 of the price.
The pros or skilled players that aren't sponsored and use it don't know about alternatives, don't have the knowledge to know it or IN MOST OF THE CASES they don't take care of their gear because they have someone to do it.

I already posted this story in the forum, but i will do it again.
A great friend of mine (he's loaded) plays with Luxilon alu power 1.25. He's very picky about tensions and strings but he doesn't know **** about strings. He just thinks that what Federer uses is the best for him. Everytime i tell him about strings i use (redcode, polystar energy) he brags that Luxilon is the best and he knows it and says that if they were that greats a lot of more pros would be using it and blablablablabla
Anyway, once he gaved me a 200m reel of alupower and his racquet for stringing. I decided to prove him something and to our coach too.
I had some sets of Cyberflash and i strung his racquet with CF and didn't told him anything. He was saying that from that time on i would be the only guy stringing his racquets because the string was softer and wasn't getting dead soo quick. He was a little bit better getting some depth. After i told him that i switched a string that costs 250€ per reel by one that costs 70€ he just couldn't believe in that.
After i told him that he started to play like crap. Plain Placebo effect.

I think I am going to give adrenline a try. It's actually really cheap. I have six sets left after that I'll try Adrenaline, Redcode, Blackcode, and other polys.

I was a long time alu BB power user. Got too pricey so I started experimenting.

Klippermate makes a generic Big banger knockoff. I can't tell the difference at all. It looks the same in the bag and feels the exact same once you string it.

I use unique big hitter. I love it. Its just like the luxilon but a bit softer and it keeps its "snap" longer. Nothing but positive reviews from users.

Nothing like the feel of luxilon for the first 3-4 hours of play. But after that it goes dead and plays like any other crap poly.

It might be a knockoff but Power Burst is still super overpriced.
