Got thumped today. I started out 3-0 up on the Champ. At 3-1, I had the longest game of my life. Probably 12 or more deuces. Of those, I had probably 8 game points with one overhead at the net and I still could not convert. My next service game had about 5 deuces. Again I had game points but could not convert. Lost that game and was able to save myself from a bagel in the 2nd to last game 6-3, 6-1. We played another set and did a little better losing 6-4. My opponent was not missing anything and I was making a lot of unforced errors. Just one of those days.

What machine do you use? I know their is drop weight at entry level, but there is also a constant pull, which may be better. I am definitley considering it. I could string a stick while I watch tv once a week.

I live 5 mins from Etennis..I ride my bike there sometimes, but lately it has been to grab some 4Rivers next door!

No epic 3 setter this time :).

I'm not debating you, I was just asking. I am pretty open minded but I'd want to get the right machine for me if I went in that direction. I also know some are really heavy and you need to buy a stand or something to put them on..so there are little costs I have to consider, plus closet storage..etc..

You prob read my old comment. Realized I was coming off a little harsher than I meant to. I just use a klippermate. But in all honesty it only takes me about 45 minutes to string my 18X20 frames. If you live close to etennis then you certainly have an advantage. For me it makes sense because the tennis store is about 15 minutes from me. So thats an hour of driving which is more than what it takes for me to do it myself.

Being so close paying 11 bucks definitely makes sense for you.

Edit: I don't know much about constant pulls. My klipper is pretty small. Weights maybe 20 lbs without the dropweight on. I have a bar area in my apartment where I leave it. So I string standing up with the stringer about level with my elbows. Its easier to do it standing so as long as you have a relatively high table it should work. I just bought the cheapest stringer I could find. Im glad I chose klippermate because the gamma clamps seem to give some people troubles.

Ryan, what would make you think I am made of money? It would be nice though!! I basically laid out how I cut costs and look for the best deals in my last post. I also am way too PO'd about losing $120 (unless I get a trader or buyer on my shoes), so trust me, I am not made of money. That extra hour you put into your stringing machine, I am recording basslines for clients or scouting a band for a record label. Basicallly, I have more then 1 job, and my time can get sucked up. It has nothing to do with income level.
No, No, don't get me wrong or anything. i was looking at it from the stand point you didn't mind having someone string your sticks for you. You can sell them on the board to make some of it back from the shoes.
I was only poking some fun, nothing.

It does not make sense for you to get a stringer if you can use that time making more money. I'm also with Dgoran, after 1 racket I don't want to string anymore for the day. Last night, I cut my knot too short on the mains before I let go of the tension and the knot busted again. That was very frustrating.
Well said Mikeler, money talks and all other **** walks.
but I was only looking out for him, in the sense that, for example, the stringers here in the chapter like to tweeek with strings and stuff and its fun to experiment.

If I can find a used machine for around 2-300 I will probably pull the trigger. I do like the Klippermate as my reserve option. The whole money saving thing is nice. 20 jobs pays for it, and now and then I do have TV time where I can string.

I also have a bar at my place...its a little high, but it may work. I am looking at some older alphas that have the stand and everything too. Sometimes you can find used $800 machines for $300 or so, and if I see a deal like that, I may have to do it.

I have been on the fence about it the whole time. Simply because I hate to buy something and then 2 months later it is in my closet collecting dust. I think I will use the machine though. Hell, everyone in this thread seems to have one.

it's a great machine and the tensions are accurate. fixed clamps, 6 point.

I have silent partner swing and I love it. I am perfectly happy. My budget was under $200 but I wanted it to be new (you really have to be careful and know what you're doin' when buying a used elect. stringer and I did not have that expertise so I decided to go simple drop weigh and new).

Mine came with a full reel of synt gut for practice and I ended up liking the string as well.

If I had the money of course i would get Babolat 5 star or similar but it was hard to convince my wife for $200 bucks budget I did not want to argue about more money not knowing if I will like stringing or not...

Anyhow consistency is the key with stringing so bottom line is it does not matter which stringer u use or how you do it as long as you like the end result and you can repeat that every time :)

Mikeler do you have a crank?

So who is all going down to the Blanchard park open? And is the time still on for 3pm

Yes, I own the Gamma X-ST. With the stand, cover, starting clamp etc., it cost me a little over $800. If I had half a brain, I would have looked for a used one.

PP, just because you buy one does not mean you can't still take them to Frank. It might come in handy on a Saturday night if you start playing tournaments again.

I'm thinking about buying another new leather grip to replace the one my friend put on to get both my rackets exactly the same.

Glad I took the day off, it was some great weather.

Weather is unreal! And yeah, you guys are good salesman! haha..but very good points made by a lot of you.

I biked 25 miles today. Basically rode to work..then rode downtown at lunch with my buddy and rode back. It was perfect biking conditions..I am taking my girl to dinner before she leaves town for the weekend, or else I'd be hitting balls right now.

Yeah today was a nice day PP. I should have gone biking instead of playing tennis. Im lost in my world of racquet's and its annoying.

I like my YT but im going to start just trading frames here on the forums. Never thought it would happen to me /:.

Yeah my MG doesn't feel like yours which is kind of strange. Mine was generating way more spin and grabbing the ball so hard. I had to completely change my swing to adjust so I don't think having one of each will work for me. I like how I can choose my shots with the youtek and I love the feel / balance but I just don't think it rewards me as much as most racquets do.

Hope I see you tommorow. Want to see what you think about it. Already posted FS / FT. Im done demo'ing. You just can't get a feel for a frame until you put your setup on it. I want to try the ag 100, FD 100, 200 and the MG prestige mid / mp.

We are still doing 3pm tommorow right guys? I can do anything past 1:30 so whatever you guys want is fine for me.

maybe get there earlier and hit serves. hadn't hit for 3 weeks prior to hitting some yesterday.

coyfish - your MG might need a better string job. ;) makes a big difference.

Ball feels good coming off the strings. Mine just "bites" more. Which is weird because BAM is thinner than my UBH. I strung the same way you strung my YT.

The BAM setup makes a different feel to the racquet. For me, the 4D is very string sensitive so when I used the BAM/SG hybrid, the difference was night and day. It just boils down to if you like that feel. I seriously hit one shot with BC's racquet and knew I needed to try the setup out.

For me, the Prestige swings a little light, but besides that it is a keeper. If you like that type of stick, you may want to try some Dunlops, Boris Becker 11 and the Wilson BLX 95.

I'd love to hit tomorrow, but im getting up early to bomb some trails in Santos. That place is like a playground. I will probably hit Sunday afternoon/evening though.

You guys think I should just go with a Klippermate? They have refurbs for 139 on their website. It seems like it would be easy to store and I would just need some kind of cheap stand with wheels for it. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger.

That one and the X-2 seem to get the best reviews here on TW. If you have a decent table or utility cart, that is really all you would need. There is something very satisfying about not having to depend on somebody else. I've never used a drop weight, but I'm sure somebody from this thread would donate an hour of their time to help you on your first try. 13 string jobs to recoup the cost. You might pay it off before summer gets here!

You don't really even need a stand. You can decide if you need one after a couple stringjobs. I also got the "defective" one. I would get the klipper over the X-2. Better clamps > useless clutch system.

I actually just got the Alpha String Pal. I read a ton of good things about it, and read that it is a little better then the Klipp for stringing poly just because it has a linear gripper. I am sure they are about even, but everything I have ever read about Alpha is positive.

So add me into the string your own racquets crew. I will probably string once a week, so that should pay off my purchase in 3-4 months. I will get the machine in the mail next week.

Awesome man. Welcome to the club! The good thing is you can resell it and still get most of your money back if you find that stringing is not for you.
