If he wants to be fair he should retire after 7 games.
Man, I'm tired of everyone becoming fans of "Nadal's opponent". Get a life people.
I like to think so but then again it's probably just wishful thinking.
In any case, he's got the weapons and if he's in a good day + some luck + required mental fortitude might maybe, i don't know, produce something close to a win in R2.
Goooo Denis!!!! For the win!!
i hope so !I like to think so but then again it's probably just wishful thinking.

No, you get a life. There is nothing wrong with cheering for Istomin or against your god Nadal. Fans like you need to stop being so sensitive and grow pair. What is a few people cheering for istomin gonna do? Nothing is in the control of fans. I can cheer against Federer and Nadal in every freaking match and it wouldnt affect he outcome except for, maybe, irrational fanboys. lolIf he wants to be fair he should retire after 7 games.

Istomin has been a tough out in the last 2 majors. Pushed Hewitt to 5 sets before losing at the French and more impressively pushed Berdych to 5 sets at Wimbledon. He'll probably push Nadal hard for 4 or 5 sets before losing. I would guess Nadal in 4 sets.

Are you going to post a video of those tweeners you pull off at your local club? I'm anxious to see it and compare it with Fed's inferior technique. Maybe the guy can learn some tricks from you.

lol if istomin gets more then 6 games ill be impressed.
That's what they said about gabashvili when I mentioned him as a tough first round for Rafa, he would get pulverized and so on, but if a couple of points went the other way in the tiebreaks Rafa could have been two sets down against this guy.
Istomin nearly beat Rafa on a court that favours Rafa way more than this one.
where, i missed that match?
i knew that gabashivili could trouble nadal because hes a big hitter, but Istomin is nowhere near that sort of caliber. I stand by what i said, Istomin will be lucky to get 6 games.

I have to agree. I'm a Rafa fan, yet I want to see Federer in the final.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. I mean really? I think with a lot of matches, a few points could have made a big difference. But Rafa was really good during the tiebreaks. It's not like Gaba was an absolute disaster. Of course you would like to believe otherwise. Point is Rafa won in 3 sets. Tough win, but still he won. His confidence is low, but he's doing things he hasn't done much in the past. He's changing it up. Aside from Rafa, Fed, Davy(I think) and Roddick, not many other guys, had 3 setters in their first round. You guys just wanna nitpick. What about Wimby final 2008, don't you think a few key points could have resulted in fed winning? Those few key points make all the difference. Gaba overall played really well yesterday.
I'm really hoping that you would also like to see Rafa on the other side of the net!

I think you should bet everything you've got, life savings, your kids college funds, the house, the car etc..
istomin for the winnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

Cakewalk for Nadal, after all its a grand slam draw
QFT, he's had cake draws for the last few slams, its a joke. He gets no good opponents until Semi (unless Murray gets upset like last year) in which case he gets free ride to finals just like wimby and RG.
Um....Istomin just beat Gabashvilli at the Pilot Pen last week.where, i missed that match?

The way that Tipsarevic played against Roddick tonight he would have taken out Nadal if he had played Nadal instead of Roddick.Don't get me wrong, I am Nadal fan and I wish Rafa all the best but he got taken to two tiebreaks, and tiebreaks can go either way(and both tiebreaks were 7-4 I think so pretty close). Sure, his serve wasn't broken but he couldn't break gaba for two sets. And I'm pretty sure there are better HC'ers than gaba out there. Obviously he can improve and I hope he will but big hitters pose problems for him on this surface. Hopefully he wins the first set with istomin cause 90% of the time when he wins the first in GS's he wins the match.

nice of you to phone in the result!
Wasn't Istomin carted off the court two weeks ago in Cincy after injuring his foot against Federer? Has he recovered from that injury? Seemed a little more serious than a simple sprain at the time.

Well, if Tipsarevic retired, he was obviously injured during that match.Roddick is no Nadal
Nadal 2-0 vs Tipsarevic
Nadal d. Tipsy in straight sets at the USO in 2007 (6-2, 6-3, 3-2 RET)
Well, if Tipsarevic retired, he was obviously injured during that match.
Besides, I said IF Tipsarevic played THE WAY he did against Roddick, he would have beaten Nadal. Tipsarevic was hitting groundies for winners left and right and, no, not even Nadal could have run down those winners on this fast court (see the Gabashvilli match). And Nadal doesn't have the massive serve like Roddick does to keep him in the match. I have never seen Tipsarevic play as well as he did last night. He was going for everything and just wasn't missing. He even played the net as if he were Edberg or something. It was like Soderling vs. Federer at the French Open all over again. A player in the ZONE and in "God-mode". Yes, Tipsarevic would have taken down Nadal if he played just like that. Heck, even Ferrer and Youhzny took down Nadal at the USO playing not nearly as high level tennis as Tipsarevic did last night.
You should tell Nadal that so that maybe he'll stop calling for the trainer whenever he's losing. If he was well enough to go on court, he was well enough to compete.
Or in the semis last year at the USO against Del Potro?I guess that means Nadal was not injured at FO09?
