Ferrer has compact shots, great movement and has learned how to return the serve of every active player that's been in the Top100 in the last decade for more than 2 seconds.

Is that easy to do?...Hell no. Ask Gulbis to do that and you'll have him on suicide watch for about a couple of months.

Like I said, great for him. My initial post was just an observation.

I'm only kidding, Li. But I just think talent is defined by more than "shot making." Especially re: someone like Kohli where it's so random. And I think you're kind of saying the same thing.

Random?...poor choice of words and what's worrying is that it's only the afternoon there. :)

It is! I really like Kohli and he has had some amazing matches, but he's so frustrating. Maybe inconsistent is the word? Psh. It's almost 7 pm here. I just need food (but that's the norm).

Inconsistent works well. Hunger is the constant. In your case.

Having an apple as we speak.

However, Miles McLachlan, Kohl's coach has apparently encouraged him to slice that backhand down the line from to time to cut down on the UE's on that side.

There's no commentator on the bet365 stream and the quality is a bit fuzzy, everything looks like an unforced error. hah

Cmon Daveed, put the German out of his misery. I'm putting a pack of Pall Mall on the line if you get it done in two.

Yeah, sometimes it seems like ball is out by a good decimeter but they continue playing... same goes for balls that look in, but they're really not.

Thank you, much better. It's 20 secs behind though, but I'm not gonna watch a third set on that other crap.

I wish Ferrer wouldn't stand so many miles behind the baseline! Aaargh!!

Hasn't he seen the other spaniard make the adjustment??

Now Kohli takes the 2nd when he should have wrapped this up.

I like Ferrer, he's a fighter but my oh my, the brain cramps he gets!!

Hmm.... my stream was all smooth, but now is breaking up a bit. I blame you guys.

Guess Ferrer doesn't like Pall Malls.

it's nothing but a filthy lie!!!

besides which it gets me quite exercised!!!

djoko.gonzo2010 (where's he been lately?) started it, and like most malicious rumors, it's caught on here at TW!

No one started it. Awhile back, I think 2007 when Ferrer was in the Top5 there was an article about sportsmen that compete at the highest level but are also smokers, and he was in it.

Glad to be proved wrong!

Ferrer is an animal! Not sure the toll these long battles have taken on him though.

He is like an energiser bunny!

Ferrer won. One thing I noticed in particular is how many meeks errors and short balls Kohlschreiber hits with his slice backhand. He really needs to fix it - it's a liability and it showed a number of times on key points in the match (including to bring up match point).

Also - anyone else noticed how long most of the matches are going? All but one that I've seen have gone to three sets and seem to also have unusually long games. This matched averaged over 9 points per game.

LOL prime minister tossing the coin. *facepalm*

he also mentioned a little matter of a "vote"
when's the election?

-----------------------------------------------

I like the little changes in Kohli's game (more aggressive now, tho work still to do) that seem to be coincident with this man becoming his coach ...

Traditionally in November in NZ. The Rugby World Cup is in NZ through Sept to the end of October so the election dates probably will be announced as mid Nov.

The tournament has always been quite good. It is noted for having future legends playing before they hit the big time (Federe, Nadal, Del Potro, Borg etc etc) and on the way back down too (Wilander, Muster etc)

The two main tennis commentators are David Mustard and Bruce Derlin. Derlin is a (basically) failed player from the 80s who strung his rep along for too long. He's known for being a bit full of himself over his tennis playing days (small-time player thinking he's all that). Mustard is an institution in NZ but his commentary is not up to scratch in terms of tennis detail imo. He keeps making weird calls which are plain wrong on either the score or a player's technique/play.

The others are Andrew Saville, a sport newsreader with no tennis knowledge and Belinda Cordwell, a former top 40 player from the early 90s. She peaked at about #20, maybe higher, after an Aussie Open semi-final run one year ('89 or '90) plus many years of Fed Cup playing. She's quite well respected for her coaching and commentary (I agree with this).

Don't get me started on the non commentating hosts Toni Street and Rod Cheeseman. *Reaches for the mute button*
