Djokovic wants Murray to win the AO

But he has.

^^ Thanks, dr, for your kind comments.:) I saw it live. Đoković was gassed out. then he fakes injury, takes a time out, and is suddenly running like the proverbial rabbit.

Nice avatar... haven´t seen u in such a great shape since your mono occured. I´m also glad you don´t have any back problems anymore. You have dominated this forum these last years it´s so hard for us Joketards to compete...

God people, he did not specify the AO or winning a Grandslam at his expense. He merely said that he likes him as a person and would like to see him win a slam one day(cos there's the continual will he? won't he? speculation) because he has put in all the hard work.Of course he wants to win slams himself and you can be sure both of them would be going at it tooth and nail to win if they were in a matchup.Troicki is one of his best friends on tour but that doesn't stop his professionalism when he plays him. Please people, don't be naive and think that he would just throw a match to Murray. He likes Murray and if he was in such a situation as a GS final against someone else, he would like him to win, but against himself it would be all business. The people who underestimate Djokovic's desire or professionalism make me lol.You don't get to where he is without it

I'm pretty sure, that unless Novak Retires (very possible) or withdraws from a major, it will be at his expense, since there is only 1 winner, and 127 losers.

Are you actually reading what you write???
Makes absolutely no sense!

As usual, you guys are reading too closely into this statement. Djokovic still wants to win, obviously. He just thinks that Murray deserves to win a slam, which is true.

This kind of attitude towards rivals shows how mentally weak the current generation of Federer's opponents is.

You know what I mean, I mean directly at his expense like actually being beaten by Murray in a GS match. If he's beaten by Fed/Nadal etc. then Murray has nothing to do with his loss or failure to win whatever slam it may be.

That's the norm here, take something totally out of context, twist it a bit and start a thread. i sometimes feel i've become a **** myself.

Well then he should do the right thing...Go sit in Murray's box while, Murray takes care of the match..he can serve some moon balls from there also. :)

Time to see if Nole really wants Murray to win. If that's the case, he just has to tank the final after having taken care of Fed.

If Djokovic loses the final, even in 5 sets, there will be doubt if he really won that major after Djokovic said that.

Nole and Murray spent a lot of time practicing together at the Hopman Cup - they go back a long way. I think they've hatched a bit of a 'stop Fedal' pact. Murray was certainly supporting Novak during the HC - giving him big fist pumps from the sideline when Novak won a match.

Mission accomplished.
Murray was limping at the end though.
Advantage Djokovic in the final.

That was said before the start of the tournament.
So many excuses prepared just in case Murray wins.
Anyway, Djokovic is fresher so looks like your fears won't be realised.

OK, I wonder if...IF Murray did win the OZ open, Djoker might say...well, I have done it before here in OZ. So, let Murray have it.
Otherwords, he's giving to Murray then?? :D

you guys take Nole's statement completely out of context. Nole hopes Murray wins if Nole did not make it to the final. In this case he is, then it's a different story. even if they are best friends, or like brothers, when they come face to face on the same court when there is only one winner, everyman is for himself - Just look at the Williams sisters. You can stop twisting or disecting Nole's statement because IMHO, it's ridiculous.

i like them both, but i would hope Murray wins. However, by judging from both semis, i think Nole played better, the guy is on fire.

Of course both of them want to win it with equal intensity.

Being a big Murray fan, I have to say that Djokovic is looking more dangerous right now. Andy has to play the match of his life to wi

Go Andy!

There's a nice pay check waiting for the winner along with some points...

I believe a win for Murray would put him in 3rd place.
Novak would be in 4th, some 240pts. behind Murray.

If Novak wins he'd still be behind Federer by 1000+ pts.
Murray would move up past Soderling in 4th with a 2nd place finish.

^ No wait....

Federer would lose points since he did not make it to the final (needs to at least make it to the final to keep his points from last season's AO win)

Djokovic would take #2 in the world with a win???

Murray would keep his pts. from last year, since he is already in the final... so In the case of a Djoko win... Novak becomes #2... Roger #3 and Murray would creep up to 4th.

Correct?

Murray won't be #4 if he loses. If he wins I don't know.

Murray has 5,760 pts. as of now... if he loses.. he gains 1000pts. plus gets to keep his 1000 fromlast year's AO, since he makes the finals.... a total of 6,760...

Federer would lose his 2000pts.from last year's AO since he did not make the finals... leaving him with 7,545, since he reached the quarters he would receive 250pts... he is now sitting at 9,245.

This is all based on a Djoko win so Djokovic would gain 2,000pts... putting him at 8,240pts.

So if Djoko wins....
Djokovic #2- 8,240
Federer #3- 7,545
Murray #4- 6,760

If Murray wins he would take 3rd place... Roger would retain #2 and Djoko would drop to 4th behind Murray by 500pts. or so....

Federer
9245-2000+720=7965

Djokovic
6240-360+2000=7880

Federer reached the semis, but won the title last year. Djokovic reached the quarters, and if he wins the title, the above numbers are correct. so in the case of a djokovic win, Federer would still be number 2...by the skin of his teeth.

sorry mistyped

klementine -- your scenarios are incorrect.

If Djokovic wins, he won't gain quite enough ground to take #2.

#2 Federer(7,965)
#3 Djokovic(7,880)
#4 Soderling(5,955)
#5 Murray(5,760)

Note that Murray gains nothing by losing in the final since that's the exact round he reached last year. If Murray wins ...

#3 Djokovic(7080)
#4 Murray(6560)
#5 Soderling(5955)

So Novak will stay at #3 regardless. The only question remaining is whether Murray retakes #4 after the final.

Yes sir!!!!! Scwartz and Cup... thanks... I forgot to deduct Djoko's points...

Will he lose 360 from last year, even if he made the finals this year????..... I was under the immpression that he would keep his 360.

nope, all of last years points come off, and are replaced by points he won this year. by reaching the final, i believe he takes at least 1200 points home, and could take 2000

Wonder if his feelings will change if they play each other in the AO.

I'll bet the "I hope he wins" gets thrown out the door.

Thank God this happened. He was quoted saying that the friendship "was on hold" or something and that the final would be "all business"

Does anybody know if this is still the case and, if so, precisely how badly does he want it? ;)
Djokovic will let Murray finally win Australian Open. Remember Nole gifted Murray Wimby title after 77 years? Since 1934 a british Player Hasn't Won Australian Open, I expect more Gifts For Andy tomorrow Morning.

I am sure he still does want Murray to win it if he doesn't/cant. That is probably what he meant then too, if I don't end up winning it, or am eliminated before him, I hope he wins it kind of thing. Of course playing in the final it is ultimately entirely different. Remember back then both Murray and Djokovic were underdog slam contenders, so Djokovic said he hoped for Murray to win a slam knowing he himself was only winning roughly 1 slam out of 8.
