LOL!! Thats the 3rd time now you've referred to DY as that. Are you from Britain, btw???

Anyway, maybe the oddsmakers know what they're doing?? Or maybe it's a sucker bet??

They have played before, last yr, New Haven, 2nd rd. Chela won 5-7,6-4,6-0. DY had chances for a break late in the 2nd set, didnt capitalize, lost the set, then proceeded to lose the 3rd in about 15-20 mins.

The important points are, that was last yr, DY is more confident this yr, obviously, he's stronger mentally, & he was in this position recently in Washington.

Also, Chela isnt a hard courter, he's not going to serve or hit DY off the court, so, DY will be in all of the games.

Mentally strong....... What?!

Chela is not ranked 24 in the world for no reason and he is no mug on the tour with his experience.

The bookmakers have gone mad with the Ameican love after they have beaten higher ranked players in the previous round. Christina McHale was also favoured to beat Kirilenko, absolute bonkers.

Anyway, far far away from Britian.

I meant DY is stronger mentally than he was last yr, not that he's stronger than Chela.

Dont really care about the WTA.

Chela is a clay courter, nothing wrong with that. If this match were on clay, I'd say Chela is the favorite, but it's not. Just like Harrison straight setted Chela at Cinci, just like DY beat Starace at IW, the surface plays a big part in the matchup.

R u from Australia??? The reason I ask is b/c u spelled 'favoured' the British way, as oppposed to 'favored', the American way.

Young-Chela is basically a push with a slight favoring of Chela, according to the oddmakers. I'd give Young the advantage, Chela has done well in RG, some South American 250's, Rome, and that's it. He bombed out at virtually every other tournament, even Madrid and Monaco. It's really hard to see him getting the semis of Washington like DY did. This is DY's to lose.

I mean Chela was 2-6 on hardcourts this year coming into the USO. Young was 8-8. Chela played 2 hardcourt matches this summer pre USO, and lost to Posposil and Harrison. Young made the semis of Washington. And Young just beat a top 20 player in the last round.

Yeah, Chela is ranked #24 for a reason. His clay court results.

I mean Young is far from proven especially in his consistency, so I definitely think it could go either way, but the bookmakers line doesn't look too ludicrous to me.

Nope just studied in an education system where the British way of spelling was used. The Queen's English ftw!

Well Young beat Murray earlier this year and stunk in his next match against Robredo. Chela lost to Harrison but he was playing with a shoulder injury which he took a medical timeout for, still managed to break Harrison's serve with the injury.

Chela is the more rested of two Matosevic retired and he took care of Darcis with ease. I'm never convinced with Young, never ever. Still going with Chela and hope he wins this.

Young admitted in that CBS profile/interview earlier today that he's never worked as hard he has off the court until this year. Better late than never.

I hope he wins, but my gut is telling me Chela will win this match.

Bezs, you following the DY - Chela match

Just got done playing, surprised there isnt a thread for the match. Anyway, DYs up 2 sets to none. From the clips Ive seen, it looks like theres a stencil on his racket now.

Getting a little ahead of things, but, if DY wins & Lopez somehow beats Murray, Im calling DY as the winner there. If u doubt it just look at their H2H.

After the match Donald threw the balls in the stands with his right hand. Is Donald like Rafa - does everything right handed except tennis?

Time for a gut check. Nice win for Donald.

Yup.

@bgtennisnation Brad Gilbert
I never noticed this before DY is a righty who plays lefty, same as Rafa. Just saw him signing autographs and throwing the ball righty!

Well ok, but Murray has a 5-0 h2h against Lopez, so...

Regardless, very nice tourney for Young. He's really playing pretty well.

Seriously, the fuss about his hat is simply unreal. Other players wear their hats backwards and I don't hear anyone complaining. Personalities differ.

Great win for him today. Hope he can play well and win against Lopez. Don't think he has a chance against Murray. Young in the QF of a slam would be great.

I don't get why some here are still bitter at Young even once he starts winning and playing well. Not saying he will win the USO, but he is looking much better.

If the main beef with him was that didn't win (a legit beef to have with a pro!), why not just cheer his success?

I say, "Go Donald!"

Who knows. Makes them feel better about their own non pro level tennis game I suppose.

young is like a bad murray without the serve.

he might make top 40.

You may be right and there is nothing wrong that. My brother sat court side during his opening round victory. Here is what he observed up close:

Pro's: young has great foot speed and very good hands. He can slice very well, find angles and change his shot as the last possible moment. He also now has confidence and you can see it.

Cons: size. Young just never did grow into the 6'3" super athlete with broad shoulders and long arms that people thought he would be. Look at how narrow his his shoulders are. His shirt size looks like a medium. He's barely 6 feet. He has loopy spinny strokes which served him well in the juniors but do not pressure his opponents enough. His forehand and serve are nowhere near top 10 wise because of the lack of power.

I agree totally with this. He can surely be top 40, but in today's game there is no way he will ever crack the top 20 unless there's some drastic improvements in his serve and FH.

Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he has 0 aces in his 3 matches so far. Not good. He will always struggle against good servers who hold their serve easily because he will almost always get broken at least once per set (even when he's winning).

Most TT members can beat Young on the court in their living room through their TV set within their own mind.

This drives them crazy.

I watched the first 2 sets of the WaWa match from 4 feet away.

The only thing that Donald did that pissed me off was spitting on the court. Yuck.

Stan would destroy Young on any other day.

Also, Stan had a pile of towels like 5 feet high next to his chair and some YoungTard was screaming "Hey Stan I think you need more towels babe..."

God I wish I had stayed for the whole 5 sets but it was brutally hot.

This isnt just a good tourney for young, its on top of an excellent season. This was no surprise.
Beef up his serve and hes gonna start winning tourneys on the ATP level.

His forehand looks pretty good to me. To say you need a massive weapon to break the top 10 is a fallacy. Look at murray, who is pactically a pusher, make it to the top 5.

His serve can be a weapon. Courier was saying that he just needs more confidence in it, go for more big serves. Still doesn't have a good serve out wide in ad court.

I am so surprised by Young's progress at the Open. Good on him, you can see how much it means to him when he wins.

I would agree with everything you said, but he isn't a guy who has just lost, it's his attitude towards all those who have tried to help him that makes it hard to root for him.

Excellent season for Donald Young, but a below average season for any touring pro.

More hatin', hypocrisy, & ignorance. Your stubborn bias is causing you to post nonsense. How's Harrison's season going so far???

Pretty much every pro between 40-100 is close to .500, either right above it or right below it. Look it up.

LMAO

You're scraping the bottom already

Just admit that you are a demagogue/hater/naysayer who will never ever change his mind even if Doland wins a calendar grand slam, the year end championship, world number one ranking, Edberg sportsmanship awards, Laureus awards and gives 75% of his earnings to charity and lives in a solar powered house and drives a zero emission, 100% gain, full hybrid.
