The top seed versus the sixth seed ...
This is going to be a very entertaining semifinal, IMO :D
Aside from its entertainment value, what's your prediction for the outcome?

Hard to decide.

Monfils had difficulty closing out his quarterfinal match against Anderson, even tho he was a set and a double break up when he first served for the match!

Raonic is playing great so far, but I'll go out on a limb for the Frenchie in three! Oui! :)

You'll be surprised at how much Monfils will S-V tomorrow (he did it with Tomic too).

I hope Raonic is ready for this kind of aggressiveness from Monfils. The only thing I want from him is to "massage" well the ball (as he did today) and to move well.

And to serve well...like he did to-day

Monfils has been playing some sloppy tennis Therefore Raonic will take this in 3. BTW what time is the match EST?

Amazing to see Monfils has only 3 ATP titles ... tough ... with his style ... not Nadal.

Tough to see the rookie come through this -- the vet's got too much experience and can play phenomenal tennis when he's on.

I'm going with the vet in 3, but by a whisker.

the only top 10 players that i'm aware of raonic having beaten were verdasco twice when he was No. 9 (san jose and memphis) and Youzhny once when he was No. 10 ((AO) .....

oh yeah and he does have that walkover over the then No. 12 Monfils at san jose back in january 2011. at that time, milos was No. 84. now, he's No. 29 and Gael's No. 10 .... Gael has also spent some of 2011 on injury leave ... not sure whether their down times are comparable or not.

thing is they're both pretty much in form atm. monfils is his usual Evel Knievel of tennis, fun to watch b/c of his skill and unpredictability ... and raonic is his usual steady eddy with a really big gun ... who's also fun to watch. i've become a fan of the trapeze tactics of the joie-de-vive frenchman this year, but I also enjoy the enthusiastic talent of the young canadian.

it's currently 10 AM in Stockholm, and the first semifinal (nieminen v blake) w/b starting in about 3 hours ... with monfils/raonic scheduled to begin 1-1/2 hours after that ... hmmmmm ... TBH, i'll be surprised if nieminen/blake doesnt go three sets and at least two hours, which would put it at around 3PM local, then and considering it's currently just past 1 AM pacific time, that would put raonic/monfils at around 6 AM pacific time ... right? :???:

I'm liking the young gun to stun number one in straights. Go Milos...put some Smokey Robinson on your iPod and make "Tears of a Clown" your theme song for Saturday. First Clowndasco in SJ, now Clownfils in Stockholm.

Milos beat #24 Llodra at the Australian Open, then #10 Mikhail Youzhny, before he lost in four to #7 David Ferrer.

As you said, he had the WO of #12 Monfils in San Jose before he beat #9 Verdasco. In Memphis, he beat #17 Mardy Fish and then lost to #8 Roddick 6-7(7), 7-6(11), 5-7. Can't get much closer than that and it took a circus shot from Roddick to beat him.

He beat #15 Mardy Fish again at Indian Wells before they moved to clay where he actually had some decent results for someone who had only played a couple of matches on clay in his life . At MC he beat #25 Michael Llodra again and #30 Ernests Gulbis before losing to #6 Ferrer and at Estoril he had a win against #22 Gilles Simon before he got a tough draw in Madrid against Feli Lopez in the 1st round but took it to three.

All in all he's played some really good tennis against some very tough opponents so it should be interesting to see how he manages today against Monfils.

uh oh ... i was afraid of that ... nieminen/blake just went into a third sed ... since the first two sets have taken about 45 minutes each, i won't be surprised if the third set takes about the same ..... sooooooo it's starting to look as if monfils/raonic won't start until closer to 6:30 a.m. pacific time/ 9:30 a.m. eastern time

Monfils is going to take an injury time out soon. He's not getting a reaction out of the crowd so he's going to take more outrageous flying leaps to try and be the star of the show and he'll end up hurting himself.

That said, Milos is hanging in there very nicely.

i've been hearing bangs and other uncharacteristic noises going on "backstage" throughout the match ... too bad for monfils that it came ?during his serve? in the TB ... but milos hung in there, came back and took it ... good on him

Wow. Total shank by Monfils at 5-5. He was able to win the next point on Milos's serve, but the Canadian eventually takes the tiebreaker 8-6.

Gael clowned that TB right out of his hands.

I forget what feed I'm watching, I think they might be Italian commentators, they are worse than Americans! They talk incessantly it's so annoying

6-6, Raonic serves, a camera flash in the audience as Monfils returns. He misses the return, get totally pissed and shanks the next point. 8-6 Raonic.

They are competing to talk over one another during the point. Ugh.

Wow. Did that break point just pretty much sum up why Milos is going to win this match. :???:

Gotta love the finesse and talent of Gael !!!

The halfvolley tweener king.

BUT Milos is the better today so far .. go milos.

Monfils is such a clown. A little bit of his goofing is entertaining but he overdoes it. So much talent and so little discipline to use it properly. Raonic on the other hand is a model of composure for such a young man. Very very impressive today.

true dat ... better video, but their blabbering is distracting. i'm goign with the fuzzier picture, better commentator on LSH under the ATP designation
.............

anyway ... raonic quite impressive today, both his service game and his mental game ... oddly tho his bench seems to be glowering all the time ... what's with that? he's paying their salaries (all except his dad I suppose) ;)

he can get away with a lot with most other players, but not today. monfils must raise his level to break serve ... might be too late, tho

Galo Blanco is usually pretty stoic during Milos' match but they're not including him in the picture most of the time. I think the camera guy has his physio confused for his coach.

It's the anti Dojokovic bench look

I wish Milos himself showed a little more pep out there. On the one hand, it's good to see him so composed and unflustered but he strolls around so laconically he doesn't generate any excitement. Very impressed with his game today though.

i stoped watching it after the first ~15min. so many unforced errors and very often servewinners, dont like these kind of matches. not entertaining.

davydenko vs tipsa sounds better
