Nadal: I don't have to Listen to Toni

Murrayfan31

The fact is Toni was critical in molding Nadal into the champion that he was/is. And a lot of it did have to do with the drill sergeant approach and getting Rafa to do what he was told. This isn't good for Rafa's overall growth as a person, but it did get him to 10 slam titles. Rafa's "growing up" will be good for him as a person, but it is in fact quite possible that growing up to become his own man could result in zero slam titles. I think it is quite possible.
The worst thing that could happen to Nadal's tennis. He became civilized.

Nadal news thread is not about news.

It's where his fans, usually after a loss, gather and discuss it till they reach an unanimous conclusion on cause of defeat. Once they have it, they relax and release pressure off their hips by posting threads such as " Nadal strong come back in 2012" or the like.

As an example, there was an emergency meeting right after Nadal's 63 60 loss to Federer, where ********* chief strategist and lead comedian namelessone, claimed the loss as " lack of strategy and short balls", or maybe it was short of strategy and lack of balls.
At any rate, there is no good news to be heard in that thread, or anywhere else.

ROFLMAO...and you know...its partially true.

Ive often wondered why only nadal fans seem to have this sort of hive mind. You dont see a Fed news or Djoker news threads or at least not one that has hundreds of pages. What is it about him that drives his fans to this?

Sure you jest. All fanbases have a sort of hive mind since they flock around the same player. Don't you see how members of respective fanbases(*******s,*******s,*********) almost always agree with one another and agree on certain things about their fav player(that basically become gospel since that day forth and can't be challenged)?

But if you notice, a lot of haters visit that thread(I wonder why:rolleyes:) to post and most of the posts can be traced, believe it or not, to 4-5 more long standing members or the trollzilla kind. It's unfair to brand all Nadal fans according to these people.

There are some good news and pics in that thread, like what CMM brings in for example.

1. I think namelessone is one of the better nadal fans. I can't claim i've read all her posts, too long, have read her shorter ones though -- possibly a handful at most :D

2. What's more she's begun to betray a sense of humor which means she's on her way out of Nadal-fandom. Wit and humor are not allowed in the Nadal camp. I see her embracing the Eagle in 2012!

3. There is a Fed News and a Joker News thread. IIRC, both were started by Babbette. I think they are both ONE page each.

Completly agree. Rafa is not as mature as a typical 25 year old and seems very uncomfotable when he is not on the tennis court. I dont believe Rafa is a very confident guy off the court and i think a lot of that is Toni's fault.

That's so totally untrue it's funny. Rafa is shy, always has been, but he's a very typical Spanish 25 year old who has an extremely strong base of a loving family and many childhood friends, and he's very funny and outgoing, especially when he's home with them and doesn't have to Rafa Nadal The Tennis Player. Almost everyone that knows him well says that he's a very happy young man by nature and is very appreciative of all the love and support he gets from his wide circle of support. He's not a pushy person who enjoys celebrity like certain other players but he's definitely confident and mature and a good caring person (which is probably more important than being a good tennis player).

Yes, yes, Nadal_Freak was a noted physicist and Nadalfan89 is a noted tennis professional
but there are others like Fedace who is a noted doctor and TusharLovesRafa who is a noted linguist and all-around intellectual...

But I understand the mistake, with the Nadal fanbase being girls, gays and badtaste persons as one respectable poster here put. LAWL.

sure... because other pro sports players friends have the habit of going around saying stuff like :

"oh, i dont know... Michael Jordan is my best friend but still he has this nasty habit of picking his butt"

"you know what... he is my friend and what not, but Tiger woods has this despicable intimidating behaviour right of the tee!!!!"

"he may be my best friend ever, but Leonel Messi is really gay... or at least he does seem to be. even thou he hasa nice average spanish girlfriend"

I wasn't arguing if they were hardcore or not, I was just pointing out their small number in the overall Nadal fanbase, they are a more vocal minority so to speak.

There are dozens of Nadal fans around here but their contribution to nadalnews thread isn't as large(maybe they aren't as "hardcore) as those up above. You(or should I say OddJack) bemoaned it reaching 600 pages and having little actual news but as I showed, only a couple of individuals actually made up MOST of the posts around there.

That those "hardcore" fans can be counted on one hand and that one shouldn't use them to discredit the whole Nadal fanbase or the nadalnews thread, which does have its good bits once you learn to ignore the non essential stuff.

How on earth could you possibly know all of this stuff about Nadal? You do not know him other than the persona he chooses to show, which could be faker than fake. Unless you are a close friend or a family member, you do not know Nadal anymore than you would a stranger on the street.

Nah, he's not a grown person, he's a circus act.

A freak who employs one tactic mechanically with no creativity or regard to circumstance or opposition (he tries to hit to DJokovic's backhand even though it is his strength), over and over.

That's what makes the guy fun to watch.

He shouldn't re-think his strategy.

Tennis is not a thinking man's game, he should just hit the gym hard, get faster, stronger, fitter, heavier, bigger, more explosive, more flexible and learn to hit both wings with double the topspin he hits now, and even Djokovic's backhand will break down. Don't think up a new strategy, just execute the existing one better.

this guy here knows how to play against djokovic, my ears are bleeding.

First bold I agree with,

And I hope your just kidding with the second bold.

Really laughed at he second bold remark. The one thing about tennis is the fact that the speed of the game makes you more focused than in nearly any other sport. One daft mistake and your out.

I think there is something going on in the Rafa camp. His website hasn't been active for a very long time and the excuse is that it is being restructured which makes me wonder if Rafa isn't restructuring his tennis career - or god forbid- going to give us some kind of shock like he's had enough! I think he may have outgrown Tony and lets hope that's all it is

Nadal is gonna do what uncle Toni tells him to and hes gonna like it!!!!!!

Go fetch me some water boy!!!

Yeah, how are you going to turn your back on the man who told you to quit football and focus fully on tennis, told you to play left handed and gave you the blueprint to beating one of history's best players in Federer repeatedly and winning 18-19 Masters and 10 Slams and making you a multi millionaire and world famous?
Nadal is being ungrateful. Just because Nadal is slower and has more concentration lapses than he used to doesn't mean Uncle Toni is the one at fault. :)

Outgrown Toni? How does that work? Nadal won a Slam this year. Did Nadal and his crazed fanatics REALLY think that Nadal was going to win Slam after Slam after Slam, racking them up with ease without meeting some form of resistance?
Federer had Nadal...and now Nadal has Djokovic. It's the way sports works. Younger guys come up and knock you off your perch sooner or later. It was going to happen eventually. Why is Nadal so upset with having a rival?

It doesn't have to be just one or the other, you know.

Well, Rafa knew then what Fed felt for years of his career ;)

Nadal never defeated Federer 6 times in a row in big finals in the span of 6 or 8 months on ALL surfaces. What Djokovic has managed to do to Nadal this year is MUCH worse than what Nadal did to Federer in his career. No comparison.

I fail to believe in any way that Nadal himself (and/or his team) would ever have thought that he'd rack up a sheer endless string of slams. It is like you say - a player should be very happy with each and everyone he manages to get (if any at all), as those big titles don't grow on trees (like some seem to think), and sooner or later, indeed a rival will appear that will take you away from the limelight. Hopefully just temporarily, but look up the tennis history and you'll find out that many big names failed to win anything big ever after they reached the young age of 26, 27. Any professional tennis player realizes that, at least should.

Some fans, however... how come Nadal, especially, seems to attract so many delusional 'bullsh*tzilla's among his fans is quite impossible for me to understand.

I think even Rafa himself has pointed out that with Fed being both older and a walking legend, it's easier to accept defeats experienced at Fed's hands. But with Djoker, it's weirder - rather jarring in fact - because Djoker's younger, albeit not that much, but still younger, and Djoker's not quite yet reached walking legend status.;) Rafa predicted in his book that his next opponent after Fed would be Djoker. He saw this coming...

And Fed's even noted that Rafa's never really faced a knock-out nemesis like Djoker in his long career from age 17 up.

Nadal's just under a different set of rules now. Those super comfortable years as Number Two (safe in the knowledge that he had a solid winning record against Number One) are over. And clearly, we're all quite fascinated with how he's handled it thus far (somewhat awkwardly) and if he'll find his sense of place at long last and get something else going in
2012.

I think he will. We'll see.:)

Or maybe Toni knows and doesn't give a crap anymore?

He has achieved all he wanted with Rafa except winning WTF and beating Roger's slam tally.

Rafa is already in the top 10 all time. Maybe he simply doesn't work on Nadal's game anymore.

Or maybe Nadal is too dumb to learn new things and neither Toni nor anyone else can do anything about this.
