Why veteran tenis player always think they always right

So i know some local athlete here.
He always said that racquet, string, overgrip and such doesn't matter.
So i used, oversized 110sq sub-300gr racquet (he uses one too), the ball always sails long. Too much power.
string doesn't matter. He uses polygut. I Tried polyester, got wrist injury. Rest for 2 weeks.
Overgrip doesn't matter. Use the cheapest one.
Tried it, one too slippery for me, one too tacky for me. Makes me hard to switch my grip.

What's wrong with their inflated ego ?
Like, if you're not like my way, you're suck.
Is it because you're an athlete you're above everyone ?

How did you get a wrist injury with polyester? What kind and what tension was it? Was it dead?

How DON'T you get a wrist injury with poly? It's very tempermental, and injury prone if it is abused, as such how the OP described. Poly is best used with medium-fast swing speeds, and a mid-heavy racket. Light rackets and poly together are just vibration city and will murder the wrist/elbow/shoulder! :)

Not if you strike the ball in the center of the racquet. My schools #2 uses a wilson k bold with luxilon bb alu power @ 62 lbs and his arm is fine. As long as you have a good technique strings don't really matter outside of personal preference

Ouch.

I can't even imagine hitting with that. Of course it's personal preference and some people have arms of steel, but I honestly couldn't recommend it all.

Also, poly has been shown to loose it's playability strung above 60lbs. Poly is only good until it has its tension loss and then it becomes dead and unplayable. When strung above 60lbs (for them most part, in my experience,) it immediately looses its elasticity and plays dead off the bat. There is a reason why it's recommended range is 10% lower then other strings, and even then with some poly it just isn't enough. As a disclaimer, I do use poly. Poly is a great, rewarding string when strung fresh. I am lucky to break poly before it dies within the 8-10 hour mark, so I rarely am dealing with poly left dead in my bag. When poly sits it becomes a hazard.

Do you put too much credence into random individuals who have more experience than you in other aspects of your life?

Opinions are like a55holes, everyone's got one...

I know, ouch! Fuji, also don't forget he is a KID. When I was young I was impervious. I could have used chicken wire in my T2000 and not noticed a thing!

To the OP, you shouldn't be on TT if you don't like people telling you what to do. (Wait, I just told him what to do...)

What's an a55holes? I don't think I have one. Are they sold at TW?

Your "friend" with the inflated ego is kinda right. If you like playing with a certain racket, or string, or overgrip, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about it.

why do veteran TW posters think their opinions of any subject matter should be valued

Is this any different from poster wars here? How many posters are adamant that they are correct and will attack anybody who disagrees with them?

With experience, people develop opinions. While they are not always right
of course, they will often be more accurate than those with less experience.

Maybe he plays with nice Modern strokes where all those things you mention
are far less important.

Hahaha very true!

Also to OP, if you don't like people telling you want to do, do not post a video. LOL!

tenapasi -- i think that old guy you're talking bout needs to shut his grommet hole. you only need to listen to advice from people you don't know on a free, loosely moderated forum. problem solved.

i personally recommend any racquet you are comfortable with. then lead it up to 14 ounces or higher. target swingweight is 400 or higher. and kevlar at the highest tension you can get without it snapping and slashing your jugular vein. i recommend one overgrip but wrap it around your playing hand. you can paypal me if you found any of this useful.

That's completely wrong

(and you call yourself a "hall of fame poster").

How Dare you! I'm never wrong. Those who accuse me of being wrong are ignorant, insecure, and jealous of me. I know this for a FACT!

You have until I finish eating the two Family Sized Dorritos Bags that my Mom got for me this morning at Costco to say your'e sorry or ELSE.....

Let's see if I got this right. Just because something does not apply to you means it is automatically wrong?

Well, I play 110sq inch racquet and balls do not sail long. It's got just the right amount of power.

I have used all poly string jobs, never hurt my wrist.

I have used all kinds of overgrips, they all worked pretty well for me.

You are wrong.

Silly, no?

He is 22 idk if I would classify that as a "kid" but I can understand where you are coming from, its probably different than someone who is on the older side

False, you can play for 20 years and still be stuck as a crappy 4.5 level player. Age means nothing in tennis, all that matters is how good you are and the experience you have

A crappy 4.5 means this player knows how to beat 4.0, 3.5 and 3.0 soundly. I am sure a newbie can learn a lot from him/her.

Nope, when you get old, you get senile. You think you're right about everything and everybody is wrong. That's how everyone at Central Park plays and they are all 50+
