Lol hilarity. He wasn't anymore tired than he would have been with 50 days of rest.

Lol. Djokovic would have definitely been fresher, he needed a set to get his legs going and to mug it up towards the end of set 4 just for Nadal to fall to his knees in glory and pride, after which Djokovic prolonged his agony before taking him to clutch school.

Disagree, watching the match you could definitely tell in the early going that Novak was still feeling his short rest from the semis. Of course he still had plenty in the tank and once he warmed up, loosened the muscles, and had a little adrenaline pumping it was pretty much all even.

Id dont think it would have been a demolition if Novak had the same rest but Novak may have won that first set.

I think that's right, actually. Novak had a hard time getting his legs moving and his shorter rest and more grueling semi certainly affected him quite negatively in the final. Despite not being in his best physical condition and playing significantly below his top form, he was able to get the job done -- albeit, he was on the ropes in the 5th. Still though, it was a wonderful triumph of heart and will and his outstanding superior mental strength in the match-up did pay some dividends in the end. It reminds me of Nadal vs Fed but Nadal is more willing to fight.

Do you also believe that Nadal was exhausted in the Madrid final in 2009 after his gruelling semi that he played the day before? I have a feeling that your tune is going to change when it comes to that match.

And FrankenCvac was not tired. If that excuse doesn't fly for Nadal,it does not fly for FrankenCvac.

I would certainly have to agree, Nadal was tired after his Madrid 2009 semi and he could have certainly arrived to the final in better condition!

Nole was in a similar spot to him, Nadal put him through hell but Nole came out the other side a winner. Kudos to both warriors. Nadal needs to go back to clutch school though, preferably in Serbia.

Yeah, the last time Nole went very well rested into a top match he played Federer at the FO and lost. Then apparently it was he was too rested and had lost his rythm...:)

But now we even have to find excuses after he matches he won:lol:

haha well done, you showed Doomsday Cassandra Nostradamus Clarky who is so defensive so assumes everyone is biased against nadal. I also think nadal was tired in the Madrid match, although still proud that Federer did not find a way choke the match

Nadal was likely a bit tired in the AO 2009 Final as well, but playing against Federer tired is better than playing against Nadal tired like Djokovic had to, because Federer is not going to engage you in 30+ shot rallies. In Madrid nadal didn't look up for it, in Australia he knew a slam final is a different matter and that tiredness didn't effct him. Novak didn't look effected once he lost the first set and he had been warmed up and then shocked into action. From then on his mind ignored what his body was feeling, and apart from a laspse in the end of the 4th set/beginning of the 5th, he was solid. But I'm sure he was effected by the long semi a bit.

At 5-3 on the fourth that match shouldve been ended.

Now that its a 6 hr match people say..ahhhh Nadal is getting closer...

Novak knows this too, I bet he cant wait for a str8 set in IW if they meet again.

daddy federer needed a hushing after he said djoker was "unimpressive" and being lucky again.

master djoker was trying to save match points as he did against federer. we've realized that federer and nadal don't win 5 setters when they face match points.

bow down to the goat djoker....

Djokovic would have lost in straights.....being too much rested would throw his digestive system to haywire. Reason why he lost at RG last year.

I agree, the real final was the Murray/Djoker match, I think either would have beaten Nadal. But Murray came away with a great AO and I think he's got Djoker's number soon this year.

Neither Djokovic or Nadal were tired. They both have "aids" to help them recover more quickly. Know what I mean?

Quoted for truth. This is what I've been saying all along. Nadal is delusional if he thinks he's figured anything out. Fresh Djoker would have destroyed Nadal. If anything, the beating are going to be worse than 2011.

LOL, it's amazing how history repeats itself. Federer at one point says he's figured out Nadal and the beatings just got worse. The difference was Fed was no longer prime after that. Nadal is still peak it's only downhill from here.

That still doesn't answer why Andy took him to five. Was he tired prior to the semis? Or has Andy figured him out?

Murray has the game to beat Djokovic. Just like Federer does as well. They both have the variety needed to beat Nole 2.0

I seriously doubt he was tired. He could have kept on running for 10 more hours if he needed to. However, he was very tense and played a pretty poor final (I guess he was feeling the pressure of defending his title, something he'd never done before), so yes, I think it's way too premature to say that Nadal has him figured out. Djokovic should clearly have won in straights had a not played such a dismal first set. And he choked big time in the fourth, giving Nadal his chance in the fifth (the Spaniard should have won, had he not choked away his lead, too).

Bottom line--agree with you that there is more of a gap than the score would suggest between Djokovic and Nadal, not that Djokovic was tired. ;)

Well, last year AM was summarily despatched in 3. I am more suspecting that was not Nole 2.0 we saw. Anyway, the upcoming season will tell who improved and who fell back.

I think it would have been done in three or four sets if he would have been more fresh. I think he started slow due to his long match with Murray.

I do think Nadal played a fighting match, retrieving like a madman and making Nole come up with big plays time and time again. I reckon if Nole had equal rest the match could have still been close but perhaps it would have been a 3 or 4 set victory something like, 6-4 6-1 7-6 or 6-7 6-4 6-1 6-2(to hazard a guess).

Completely agree, he was pretty out of his mind the last 10 years of his life on drugs though and I think he definitely had B.D.D (the condition). This is how I choose to remember MJ though:

imo it had nothing to do with djoko not being fresh, he just didnt bring his A game except for a brief period towards the end of the 3rd set. you just cant play your best tennis every day no matter how much you rest in between

the fact that he still won it despite that by gringind it out in a 6h match shows that fitness was deffo not what kept him from finishing it sooner

MJ was a great man who used the most profound strict vegetarian diet in the history of fine eatery. It's the strict vegetarian diet that resulted in his fluid changing forms (paraphrasing the great man himself).

Actually many sources, accounts, and friends say his favorite thing to eat in the world was KFC chicken without the skin. The vegetarian thing was a cover lol, something to add to the myth.

Can I ask, what the hell is with all the michael jackson GIFs on tennis warehouse??

My MJ Thriller gif was posted to indicate how thrilled I was about the AO final after having rooted for a Djokodal thriller in the final all through :(
(Besides I thought all true Nadal fans are expected to post MJ gifs ;-))
