I've been hitting with BHB7 17G for two weeks now and love the string... for the most part. Great spin, great power, very comfortable, but the durability is terrible. It's lasting maybe 4 hours per set. Should I go up to the 16G? Seems that the gauges are pretty thin anyway, so maybe 16G wont be too bad?

yep, durability sucks big time. i've been hybriding it w/ polystar energy crosses and i popped the first set in ~4 hrs. the 2nd second was even worse only lasting ~3 hrs.

I use BHB& in my TF TFights, which have denser string patterns and it lasts a good while. On my more open string pattern sticks, I like BH Silver rough 16. Lasts a long time and spin is still pretty devent.

So I tried out big hitter black and big hitter blue rough last night. Black was pretty bad, felt like a very cheap, plasticky string. Blue rough was better, good feel. However, what I noticed from BOTH is that they seem very cheaply made (maybe why the price tag is cheap). The strings moved around quite a bit.

NOTE: it was a hybrid on both with a synthetic in the cross, 63lbs. My previous string was technifibre pro red code.

Okay. Advise please. I have BHB7 in 16 and 17 gauge that I plan to hybrid into mains and crosses. Is convention to put the 16 in the mains and the 17 in the crosses or vice versa? 16 x 19 string pattern. Low tension set up intended. One in mid 30s, the other low 40s. Thanks!

You are playing poly @ 63 #s and you expect the string to feel good??? How big is the frame and what is the string pattern? To me any poly over 58 feels stiff.. and unplayable..

Yes.. a 16 x 19 using the 17G is not a great combo for long life. One the other hand. I am using a 16 x 19 with a 100 headsize and getting 12 + hours out of a 17G hybrid. I play with quite a bit of spin, but do not really crush the ball.

Actually, i'm not using the 17g. i'm using BHB7 16g w/ Polystar Energy 17 and only get 3-4 hrs max before BHB7 pops.

i've hit w/ other 17g or even 17L gauge polys in a full bed or hybrid in the same sticks and have never popped a string in 3-4 hours unless i shear it against the grommet on a mishit frame shot.

What if you are dealing with a low tension like the 30s. thanks

Might just be a bad match up for you. String/frame and your game. Folks get many hours out of Head Rip Control 16G. I was getting 4-5 hours and pop.. it goes. One of the only strings I seem to break. As I have posted in the past.. getting great price/performace out of all the Tourna Strings. My normal set-up is BH Silver 17G / Forten Sweet 16G.

Yeah, I have to echo Steve's thoughts here as well. 63 is never really going to give you a good feeling. I went as high as 62-63 on my Prince Black with Polylon SP, but that's as high as I went. And it was pretty rough in the first 15-20 minutes until the tension dropped.

The BHBR can be strung higher and still have a good feeling; the BHB7 should be a couple pounds lower from that.

maybe. it's too bad cuz i get very good spin, control and comfort from this hybrid setup, but durability is just awful.

i would have to agree w/ SteveI and Bmr. 63# is really too high. i'm stringing it btwn 50-54#s in my 95 and 98 sq in sticks.

I used hurricane tour/wilson sensation hybrid all throughout college at 63 and it feels great. pros regularly string in the mid to upper 60s, so idk what you guys are talking about. this string blows

I have to say I like BHS better than this string. Just for my playing style, I don't see much gain with this string other than a bit more spin, but in return I get a lack of control and a loss of a flat first serve. Still pretty okay string, just not for me compared to BHS. At 55 btw in a 16x19 IG Speed mp

I don't know where you get your info but few pros string high 60s. Most string 60 and lower

Not with poly. Most string low. Huge article in the Journal about it.

But don't let the facts get in the way.

You're right, James Blake or Andy Roddick neeeever strung in the mid 60s. Explain to me why hurricane tour, red code, pro line 2 all feel great when I string at 63 but bhb7 feels like crap? I'm also not interested in what an article has to say, I'm interested in what feels good to me. No right or wrong answer when it comes to string tension.

My point exactly to these guys. It's just not good string.

some strings play best at higher tensions while other strings play best at lower tensions.

BHB7 performs better in the low to mid 50s but even so, i'd never do a full bed of it. i hybrid it w/ a softer, livelier cross to get more feel out of the string bed. however, since you like the feel of Red Code, i don't think you'd like BHB7 even if you strung it lower as it's a very different feeling string. i've tried Red Code and it's a great string although i strung it 50#s.

and finally, if you hit hard w/ moderate spin, avoid BHB7 like the plague because it's just not durable enough. you'd end up breaking strings every 2-3 hrs.

I said different, not bad, you work for babolat or something? I thought BHBK7 was awesome for spin and if you like a softer response its unbelievable. I went 3 hours straight with it 3 days in a row and had no arm, wrist or shoulder pain or stiffness at all, which is a first for a poly. I get pings in various joints the next day after just a few hours with most other polys I've hit.

I normally play with gut in the mains at 52 and Tourna Big Hitter Blue Rough 17 in the crosses at 48 lbs. I would like to try out the BRB7 instead of the BHBR. Would you recommend stringing the BRB7 17 at the same tension as I have been for the BHBR 16 or something different?

The BHBR plays with a bit more power than the BHB7...I would probably string the BHB7 a couple pounds lower and go from there. I had the BHBR at 60 pounds and i've been messing with the BHB7 in the upper 50s.

How does this string play at lower tensions (30-40 lbs) in a 17g and how would it be compared to BHBR or WC Scorpion at the same tension range and gauge? (all of them full bed).

Thanks in advance.

Yo Brother, have been trying to get an opinion on this for a couple of days. No luck. Went ahead and had BHB7 put on 2 boris becker 16 X 19 at low 30s and low 40s respectively. I will report to you performance over the next couple of days and the weekend.

Thanks for asking the question. It makes me feel like I'm on the right track for my objectives.

Polyether string elements and pros

of course i did. "you have to string poly at a lower tension". or "no pros string above 50 something". which is false. anything else?

I don't think pros are using with poly with polyether above say about 52 lbs. Maybe, but I have not seen or read otherwise. Maybe with pure polyester, not with polyether.

there's plenty of documentation from the stringers at pro tournaments, check some of them out. i know they have them on the forums somewhere.

IMO, I trust the inputs from people here in this forum, they are great benefit to me most of the time. According to the majority, this string is one of the best poly out there in term of price and playability. I've tried and agreed. Of course, no strings are perfect. Please give it sometime and post a valuable input.

Played with BHB7 17g strung at 60lbs in my Pure Storm last night. Way too tight, felt awful from the get go. My arm tired and my shoulder is a little sore. It just felt like a board and took much more effort to get anything out of my shots than usual.

I normally play with BHBR 17@60lbs and love it. BHB7 felt completely different.

I'm going to try to bump the tension down to 50lbs and see what happens.

I had the same experience at 55, went down to 48 and it changed everything! Will prob drop it another 2lbs next time I restring.

Input being "valuable" is subjective, so therefore, don't post unless you have a valuable input, either. If you like your tension on the tighter side, as do I, this string is awful. Stay away.

You haven't even tried the string at a lower tension yet.. Trust me, I am the king of stringing poly at high tension, but not all poly is built the same. Tour Bite/L-Tec need to be lower to be effective..and there are several others. That being said, maybe BHB7 isn't for you..but it's played very well for quite a few people (me included).

I had my 1st string job @ 58....moved to 52... magic now.

Im definitely going to try to bump it down. My plan is to string 3 rackets, one @55, 50, and low at 40 just to feel the differences between the tensions. Ive got a reel of this stuff, I hope I can get ti dialed in. it is nice to know that I can fall back on BHBR if the black doesnt work out.

I'm not going to change my string tension to compensate for a sub-par string. well, not sub-par, just one that doesn't play well at higher tensions. entirely possible it does feel good at a lower tension, but me being a player that strings in the lower to mid 60's, it wouldn't be for me i suppose.

Exactly. Do not string any poly up tight. Especially co-poly with polyether. Plenty of old poly that likes it tight for a few hours before going dead. Or just avoid poly.

Just put a big wad of money into escrow to then give directly to your doctor for your the many hours of rehab and surgery. Poly was not really designed to be played in the mid 60's. The true attibutes of the string are gone at those tensions. While I agree that BHB7 does not well at 60 to 65... most polys play like crap at those tensions. The old saying goes... "pay me now or pay me later". Good luck in your quest.. and keep that money in that escrow account...

most poly's? really? rpm blast, hurricane, hurricane tour, revenge, pro line II, competition, big banger, hurricane feel, pro red code, big hitter blue, big hitter blue rough all feel pretty good @63. can you explain to me why, oh knower of all things that are poly? there are pleeeenty of players, pros, club guys and in-between that play in the 60s with polys. If you're a weekend warrior that puts no training into your tennis, yea, you might need to see a doctor. but i bet a sore arm will be the last of your worries. if you're out of shape. do you even play tennis?

Been playin with poly @63 since '02. Never had an arm or shoulder problem. Big hitter black isnt a good string. Poly feels great in the 60s. I'm out, deuces.

Go hit with Tour Bite at 63 and tell me that your arm still feels fine after a couple hours with that setup.

Which was my original point exactly. Some poly strings don't play well at higher tensions, BHB7 being one of them. Ive played full bed, hybrids, you name it, never had an arm problem. Maybe you have a technical flaw in your strokes or a lack of muscle conditioning in your arm.
