Novak Djokovic Parts Ways With Sergio Tacchini

Novak Djokovic, the world’s best male tennis player, will end his two-year cooperation with Italian clothing brand Sergio Tacchini International, the company said.

“It has been mutually and amicably decided that, as of the 2012 Roland Garros Grand Slam, Novak Djokovic will no longer be the brand ambassador,” the company said in an e-mailed statement today.

Djokovic is the reigning Wimbledon, U.S. Open and Australian Open champion. He rose to the top spot of the men’s tennis rankings last July after he won his first Wimbledon title.

strange period, but rumors said the 2012 hasn been paid yet so they just sold the contract to Lacoste till the end of the year (rumors from RG).

So, it was much sooner than anyone here would have anticipated... I vote for Nike, but somehow at this point - to me - it doesn't seem much possible. There was a word, before he went to ST, that he was very near to close the deal with K-Swiss. So, it could be just a small hint.

Don't know if this is reliable but...

Novak Djokovic's new clothing sponsor is the japanese brand Uniqlo, which used to work with Nishikori and Olympic athletes in Japan.

The presentation will be held tomorrow in Paris and he plans to wear the full equipment in his first match in Roland Garros.

Apparently, it's not Nike after all, Japanese UNIQLO offered him a big deal and he'll sing with then on Wednesday at a ceremony in Paris.

would not be surprised if he acquired the distribution rights for eastern europe in this deal. I believe that's what he got from ST. I like this deal for ND. It's creative and risky.

Wow, my first thought was the headline "The Champion Nobody Cares About". If true no doubt money is gonna be good but seeing #1 in uniqlo is quite sad.

No one can say they didn't see this coming. ST were never in a position where they could realistically keep him for another 8 years or so.

i'd imagine it's a short term deal with uniqlo. Adidas prepping his return, Murray (or Verdasco, lol) out the window.

I think it is a good move, as with ST, he is trying to become the ambassador of a brand, instead of being part of a team and he is thinking in the future not the right now, right now he makes tons of money by winning tournaments, he is already working on his retirement (from tennis) plan. It did not work out with ST maybe because they did not have the money but who knows, maybe Uniqlo does.

On the other hand I really believe Nike nor Adidas can't afford him, they would have to either let go some of the lower ranked players AND increase the gear prices, cna you imagine Barricades at $150??

They don't need to hike up tennis gear in particular, they could do anything...get rid of Murray would free up some cash, for instance.

Read he is signing with Uniqlo... Same Japanese company as Kei Nishikori. He will wearing it starting at RG 2012.

Why not back to Adidas? They haven't really had a long term #1 player in both ATP and WTA (even though #1 player changes weekly) for awhile now?

What they would pay Djoko. is pocket change to Nike and Adidas. It is more a question of where he would fit within their lines.

Bonuses is what killed them. They were set very high because nobody on this planetexpected what happened in 2011. The contract itself was fine cashflow wise.

I think your right. This is most likely a temp deal until 2013 comes rolling around. I really wouldn't be surprised if Adidas boots Murray off to sign Djokovic again. Would be a laugh if that happened though. A Nike deal is also possible, but I guess we'll find out more tomorrow.

ST never really had a presence here in the states. Poor marketing and poor designs.

Hope he goes with Adidas...I love their shirts.

Hmm...guess I must be living under a rock; I've never seen nor heard of this brand. Looks like it's huge in Asia (no pun intended). However, I just went to their website and there is no athletic wear. It does mention a few of their sponsored athletes though.

This has gone from bad to worse. ST designs were lame this year but Uniqlo's are dreadfull. Please for the love of God sign with Nike or Adidas.

Can't belive neither of them have offered him a deal, they will lose a a great chance to gain $$$, especially Adidas.
