I don't think anyone needs to really argue. This thread should be mostly for people trying to make the decision. I think for the first time in a while there are two really good options out there. I wouldn't blame anyone for getting either phone. I could probably be happy with either myself:
I'm gonna jot down a few things that I have gathered from my research for myself (many of which have been covered in this thread to sum up and some opinions) that might help a couple people on the fence to make a decision or just confuse them more
-This iphone does not have NFC but the gs3 does
-IOS6 maps are very bad right now. I wouldn't trust them until they get updated heavily. I really hope apple approves the google maps app so people can at least use that until apple gets to up to speed with their maps. They seem to be poaching ex google maps employees and probably some current ones as well.
-All the iphone 5s on verizon come unlocked for gsm. So you can use them on any gsm network worldwide but with a nano sim which will become common in a few months or you can use a sim card cutter.
-verizon does not charge extra monthly to use facetime (it just comes out of your regular data)
-Anyone on verizon with a shared data plan is allowed to use their device as a hotspot for no extra charge
-You cannot use voice and data at the same time on the cdma iphones (verizon) (I think this is because they made a dual cdma/LTE chip to save room instead of using two separate chips)
-The iPhone 5 A6 chip has 3 cores and has a higher benchmark score than the gs3 update:iphone5 2 core cpu 3 core gpu
-The iPhone 5 has slightly faster (almost the same) download speeds with the same coverage than the gs3 but the gs3 has considerably faster upload speeds than the iphone 5.
-The GS3 has expandable memory with an sd card slot for upto 64gb but the iPhone does not.
-GS3 has a removable battery
-GS3 has a universal micro usb charging port while the iphone has a proprietary one
-Although the iphone 5 has a 720p front facing camera upgrade it is still a little less than half of the gs3 front facing camera
-The gs3 does not do wireless charging out of the box but if you buy a special backplate it can
-Luckily both of these phones are great with apps unlike my blackberry which I will miss and the windows phones which I would never buy even though I like Nokia
-another note: I really love my blackberry Bold 9930 (best keyboard ever, NFC, great email) but since I bought it no work has been done to make me stay as a customer but I would consider switching back the next time I buy a new phone if they adopt android apps fully in Blackberry 10 and show some initiative.
