How great would the Australian Open 2013 be if...

...the form of the following players all show up?

-2008 AO Tsonga
-2005/06 Federer
-2011 Djokovic version 2.0
-2008 Nadal
-2009 USO Del Potro
-2012 USO Murray
-2010 Wimby Berdych
-2010 AO Davydenko
-2009 AO Verdasco

Would be fun if everybody was in god-mode! :)

Bunch of blowouts in the early rounds to the triple bagel variety and then Federer just pwns everyone?

Sure, sign me up.

2012 US Murray was crap.....better 2010 Aussie and 2012 Wimbledon Murray.

Better 2009 AO Nadal or 2010 US Nadal than 2008 Nadal.

Federer 2006 vs Djokovic 2011 final.

It would just be federer winning everything. Honestly his form in 2006 was untouchable

I think Nadal and Djokovic would give him a lot of trouble. The AO hardcourt suits their games better than it does Federer's. Nadal would still be finding Federer's backhand.

Tsonga, Verdasco and Davy partying up like there is no tomorrow. they will be ~15% overweight and move like turtle come aussie open time. I doubt Roger will be ready, he needs to rest his aching old body somemore.

I'd say add a dash of Younes/Roddick and perhaps a touch of '12Bercy JJ...then the stew would be quite tasty!

Federer 2006 vs Djokovic 2011 final.

AO 2009 Nadal probably wouldn't have gotten past 2009 Federer if Federer had his serve on that day. Federer of 2006 would have definately taken that version of Nadal.

I think it comes down to Federer and Djokovic, Nadal can't get through an on fire Djokovic and I think peak Federer is slightly better than peak Djokovic.

^ Nadal looked slow in the AO final compared to his movement in the semi. Federer was lucky he faced a tired Nadal. Not lucky enough though....as Nadal won 6-2 in the 5th.

I wonder if Talk Tennis has given up on Federer yet in a match vs Nadal. Even at the 2012 AO when Nadal said he wouldn't be able to adjust to his new racquet weight until he had all of Feb to train with it, Nadal still beat Federer in 4 sets....

Why did nadal_ownz_fedjok get banned? He seemed like an extremely reasonable poster.

Anyway, as we saw in Roland Garros 2008, when Nadal is in god-mode, Federer wins 4 games in a slam final. The all-time record holder for slams gets bageled and breadsticked in a grand slam final. That's Rafael "Unstoppable" Nadal.

2008 Nadal? Ooooh that was sneaky  2009 or 2012 AO Nadal is the best, but you picked Nadal the year he got minced by Tsonga

In fact since we're going by all time best HC form, Nadal 2010 US Open and 2009 AO would be it. Not that convinced by Murray at the US Open this year, he was patchy but he got it done. But it was nearly all guts that did it, his game has been better at other times.

Murray's best ever hard court tennis was probably Canada 2010, Shanghai 2011, and some other Masters events. In slams it would be 2008 U.S Open and 2010 Australian Open minus the final where he as usual way underperformed. 2011 Australian Open wasnt anything great, he just didnt play anyone good enough to beat him until the final. This years U.S Open he played well enough and kept it up in all arounds, not having any drop off in the final.

when I said 2008 Nadal, I meant the Nadal who won 8 consecutive tournaments. I was going off his summer form of 2008. I know that AO 2008 wasn't his best performance although if we're going to be fair, Nadal obliterated everybody in straight sets at AO 2008 all the way up to the semifinal. So was Nadal really that bad or was Tsonga just that good? Tsonga's never duplicated such a magical performance since.

Nadal never won 8 consecutive tournaments? He lost in Rome and Cincy in between.

yeah sorry, i get what you mean now.

Do still think Nadal's best HC form is more relevant though

It would be great if Del Potro has his peak form in the tournament and blasts ****** off the court with his moonballing garbage tennis

That would be pretty special to watch. Remember USO 2009? Ralph was demolished. :)

That was amazing. It's ashame Del Potro has such poor stamina or he could make the pig squeal much more often.

to be honest Tsonga did a better job of beating Nadal at the AO 2008. Nadal won one more game than vs Delpo, but Tsonga played better tennis and killed Nadal with some great volleys. Delpo was just ball bashing and Nadal wasn't getting to them.

How great would the Australian Open be if Rosol gets draws Rafa in the 1st round, Jerzy is seeded to play Murray in the 3rd round, Raonic against Fed in the 4th round, and some random on fire guy against Djoker?

Would be impossible. I can't see Rosol holding serve on the AO surface unless he's in super god mode. AO slow hards doesn't play anything like Wimbledon grass. He'd have to engage in long rallies. The surface strongly favors Nadal in this case.

Actually we don't know that because in 2005 AO Fed played far better than he did in any of 2008, 2009 and 2011-2012 AO.

Also rebound ace was different than plexicushion.

Maybe not Nadal, but I'm sure Djokovic would have a shot against Federer in 2005. He played well on faster courts, too. Look at the 2007 US Open final.

A shot yes, maybe even the favourite (goes for both Nadal and Novak) but dead certain to beat him (you stated it in your post like some fact)? No.

Then again, I'm hardly surprised to see you underrating Fed's play during his best years.
