well this is exactly like 2010 in miami fed really shouldve won this match a while back but on the first match point he just put a weak slice out. I hope this turns out like toronto in 2010 when berdych was up 5-3 serving for the match and fed got him in the TB 7-6 but looking unlikely, i really thought fed was gonna win this.

Just like Berdych should have won the second set on an out ball by Fed at 6-5. Should've, could've, would've.....

Federer was rude to him at Wimbledon 2010. Berdych isn't respectful of him.
Berdych was jeering during his match against Roger at the AO saying "it's over" and sneering at the cameras when he won the second set. The only reason Federer was seen as disrespectful was because he was so direct about his injury (which everybody knew he had). Berdych on the other hand is a total jerk when he wins against Rogero r thinks he's going to win, no matter what. As though that somehow proves he's the better player. LOL.

So how Federer played great yesterday but lost today?

His blind fans need to understand difference between pigeon and player who actually believes in victory.

Nadal doesn't play aggressively on returns. Not on the first stroke anyway. BP or not. But yes, he does the play the overall point with more authority almost like he's daring the opponent to block him.

Exactly.

I'm actually just looking at BPs converted career stat and Nadal and Djokovic are tied (2nd and 3rd) with a conversion rate of 45 %. Federer is, maybe not surprising, down at number 79 with a conversion rate of 41 % (which isn't THAT much of a difference though)

Oh no doubt, though not nearly as amazing as Nadal (the true GOAT) played against Zeballos in Vina Del Mar.

Belief and (current) match-up go hand to hand.

Also player's level can fluctuate throughout the tournament though of course it also depends on the opponent on the day.

It was just that blo*dy FH at 5-5 15-40 that Fed had a huge chance to make it, Berdych was way out to the deuce side of the court and Fed would have likely won the point. But he dunked it into the net. Fed had all the momentum and psyched Berd already after shouting the huge 'Come on' when making the incredible BH pass.

Yes, in fact Federer played well, and had a match points, but I don't understand Fedomania after victory over Davydenko

And I don't understand why you have a problem with fans gushing over their favourite player's performance (even if it was against an easy opponent)? People are allowed to enjoy Fed's game and still believe in him you know, or would you rather all of us turned into Clarky and claimed he'll never win another match and should retire?

Whilst I agree that berdych personality isn't one or the most likened tour, I love a good mix up in the top end. Too much similarity and the whole game gets boring. I hope berdych can really upset fully in slams as well, we need to support better tennis and just because federer can't beat a guy doesn't mean we shouldn't congratulate them.

It's about the competition, whoever wins deserves it and we get the pleasure in watching this battles happen.

If berdych beats djokovic, then the top players then will have a serious theeat and the level of play will be challenged.

As for my opinion - I missed the two sets but in the first federer messed up so many volleys it wasn't funny. On top of that his body language was really off, it was quite noticeable. And lastly his forehand was way out of focus, though could of been berdych pace.

Er, I would agree if Berdych was a younger player; but this is Berdshit we're talking about here. We already know his limits, we already know he's going to bend down to Djokovic.

have you seen some Djoko fanatic who celebrate victories against Troicki, B.A. and Seppi?

Clarky...well she is unique

So by this logic, and by the logic of most other people's opinions here who are angry with this result - we should fix games to ensure what we preempt to be the best next game? What happened to being fair?

The fun of watching tennis is because anything can happen.

Just saying I'm not holding out any hope on Berdych being any sort of real challenge to Djokovic or even Murray. Yes he can beat an old past his prime Federer that's shanking every other ball, big whoop.

Well first of all there are way way less Novak fans here, secondly Novak is dominating the game and beating everyone at the moment, his fans have no need to celebrate his victories against easy opponents while Fed fans cling to what they can.

Still, notice that a number of Fed fans in this thread (I'm talking about posts, not the poll) said Berdych was favourite despite his performance against Davydenko.

Clarky...well she is unique

Wouldn't say that at all, sure she takes it to a different level but most Nadal fans where like her more or less in 2011-2012 (until clay swing), Fed fans are usually the other extreme (overconfidence in Fed given the way things are currently).

I wanted to see djoker destroy fed but seeing berdych own fed these days is great.

You had to wait so long for Federer to lose more matches but there you go when hes 32. Let's see what Djokovic comes up with 6 years from now, if he's not retired by then of course.

Well, at this point of Federer's career, non-slam events are merely warm-ups
for slams.

Despite that, he will do much better on slow clay court warm-ups since
he will beat Berdych/Tsonga/ etc very easily (and take up Nadal/Djokovic/Murray at semi's and finals).

Too bad for Fed, he should have taken this one. I hope he comes across some good form soon.

I'm really disappointed in Federer and his overall attitude this year. He still can beat anyone and he really should've won this match today but he's so sloppy as of late (not necessarily in execution but how he handles different parts of a match).

Last year he was so committed to every match and those smaller tournaments helped him get into groove and gain momentum for a great patch of the season. It was such a joy to watch him regardless of the outcome of the match.

His calculating, cutting down on the schedule and the nonchalant approach in smaller events is going to backfire badly, I'm afraid.

Saving himself for the GS and focusing only on the big tournaments is not gonna cut it. He needs to get his act together and play himself into form via smaller events.

I might be way off but I don't think he will have the confidence to do some serious damage in the GS if he doesn't start winning some non-GS tournaments.
Just my 2 cents.

I remember him beating Murray last year_. If Berd is aggressive and his game is on, he owns both Fed and Murray. Now Djokovic and Nadal is a whole different story. Their high bouncing grinding game is hell for a flat hitter

i missed the 2nd and third sets... watching the replay now...

seems from the score that the match was close. was it fun?

How did he miss those matchpoints in the 2nd?!

Wow... I know it was close, but didn't realise it was that close. Seems like the slice was indecisive. That's one of Roger's bread and butter shots.

Credit to Tomas for keeping his cool on his serve to save Matchpoint after faulting.

Glad to see both pros playing real tennis. Dubai has turned out to be quit a good 500 tourny.

Berdych deserved the win and though Roger had match points, he should have already lost that set but got a second chance thanks to a terrible call and Tomas being too stupid to challenge.

Was a shame because Federer played some really good points, but he let it slip at 5-5 where he had chances to break.Once he lost that 2nd set I knew he'd lose. Seems he now has problems with Djokovic, Nadal, Murray and Berdych..

Berdych deserved the win, but was such a close match. 113 vs. 110 points... High level tennis. Well done for Tomas, he was so happy at the end! As if he had won a tournament or something. It still means a lot to beat Roger.

I hope Tomas brings his A-Game* against Djokovic so we can have a final that is worthy of the matches that preceded it.

* He will need to, in order to have a chance.

Love all

Semi-Pro
Wasting so many break points, 0-30's and gifting his game with flurry of unforced errors is enough for him lose the match against anyone.

Berdych up a break already!

He's painting the lines and knocking novak off of teh court. Amazing. Can't imagine he can sustain this for a whole match.
