Most important points from an interview he gave to a Swiss newspaper this week (sorry, no english link yet):

– always knew he was going to play, even without contract
– felt like now is time to communicate it
– still no contract with the organizer
– loves playing in front of home crowd, no matter what

other points:
– back problems lasted longer than expected, but he's glad to be able to practice again
– enjoying his stay in Switzerland

That is all for now. I hope the full interview will be available soon.

Good news, bit predictable but good stuff nonetheless. Btw stephan, do you actually live in Switzerland? Is it nice there?

"For me it was always clear: I will also play the Swiss Indoors 2013th I have not yet been communicated only, but now the time has come, "said Federer.

A new contract between Roger and the Basel tournament boss Roger Brennwald it does not. "I can play in Basel without any agreements or contracts, if I feel like it. To compete on home soil is very special for me, "Federer justified.

In the first statement it appears that he is confirmed to play , in the second statement if i feel like it does not 100% confirm,

Anyway great news i think he will definitely play :)

Yes I do. It is very nice, but also quite expensive to live here. Is there anything specific you'd like to know? ;)

@kalyan4fedever: I'm sure it is a confirmation. I feel like the second paragraph is more general, meaning that he doesn't necessarily need a contract to play a tournament.

Looks like Basel are offering federer 2 million to play their teeny tiny event. If Nadal and Djokovic were playing, I'm sure they'd never give in to those terrorist-like demands. :p

Poor chap Fred has mouths to feed, but I don't expect the rich, spoiled keyboard brats freeloading off their folks to understand that ;)

If federer really needed the money, he could play Monte Carlo (just like the other members of the 'big 4' are doing), one of the most prestigious Masters 1000 events on the ATP tour. I guess Monte Carlo's prize money isn't enough to tempt federer into another Nadal beating. :p

haha not particularily, I've just thought about going for holidays although there's the slightest problem I don't have a spec of Swiss German.

Don't worry, you don't have to speak German (or Swiss German for that matter) as most Swiss understand English just fine. There's four spoken languages in this country so we're kind of used to hearing different languages. :D

Yea it's not. Federer collects more cash for entering Basel than winning Monte Carlo 4 times.

Is it a municipal tennis court? Looks like pretty cheap fencing, no backdrops, burnt out clay surface... Nice location though :)

wowzers ! For a second, I thought it was photoshopped.

That's what I thought at first, it looks almost composed. I mean, look at the sand below his right foot :D Awesome photo.

How arrogant of Fed.

;)

I think the place is called Felsberg which is in the east of Switzerland. Beautiful area.

Monte Carlo's prize money was €501,700 last year.
Basel's prize money last year was €348,000 for winning.

If federer won Monte Carlo 4 times, he'd win more than 2 million euros. (Prize money increases each year, too.)
If federer won Basel, he'd win 348,000 euros.

Monte Carlo's 4 appearance fees + prize money would obviously top Basel's 348,000 euros + appearance fee.

It is photoshopped.

Fred is playing on Mars -- the low grav makes the ball rise higher simulating Ralph's moonballs, they've superimposed mountains to fool everyone.

Fred Astaire ?

OMG! too funny,Senti sir!

LOL. Monte Carlo cannot offer appearance fees as it is a Masters event.

Basel giving in to federer's terrorist-like demands aren't good for the game. He could potentially be single-handedly killing the tournament just by asking for that ridiculous sum of money. :p

Federer reminds me of Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong. You never know what they're up to. All you know is they want money. Their personalities don't resemble a human being. Their facebook pages are all boring PR things.
