I find it peculiar that every clay court tournament except Madrid has had awful wet weather. Is like "HAARP" technology (weather manipulation) is used to make sure the weather is rainy to screw up with Rafas play! Lol! :)

Yeah, and even Madrid was bad the first rounds. Clearly team Djoko who is behind the bad weather.

And Federer made it rain at Wimby last year so he could play under roof (they had the roof on 9 out of 13 days).

I've never liked the weather excuse. I mean there are some extreme cases like hurricane or tornado, sure. But most tennis events get played outdoor. Of course the weather is gonna fluctuate. There is no way around that. It's part of the player's job to adapt to the conditions. Rafa is #1 in outdoor winning % in open era: before Borg, before Fed, before Connors and Djoko. So, nobody will ever convince me that he cannot win matches in damp conditions. That is perfectly absurd. He's won clay events that had rain delays. He can adjust very well if needed.

Well, as a Rafa fan you should like it, because it excuses Nadal from ever losing to Djokovic on clay. When he loses to Djokovic on clay, it is only because the damp weather means the ball is not bouncing as high as it should, no?

No it's because of Djokovic's talent and the way the matchup works. Not out of the blue: Rafa can't play after rain.

Djokovic just entered the court, wonder when he played in front of this kind of crowd last time.

The only exception I would make is if it's raining (more than drizzling) during a match. That can actually be unsafe irrespective of bounce height.

Can the ladies just wrap up their match so I can watch Nadal during my lunch break? Almost 2pm already. Argh

I think one thing that Gulbis has an advantage in is his BH to Nadal's FH rallies. Gulbis BH is stronger than his FH and he gets his balls really deep as well

hahah excellent man gulb keep it up :D aha much relief from that mug fognini match,

Edit : gulb breaks ...can he maintain the momentum

How far back in Nadal standing? He can be the line judge while he is playing.

Ernie's game is even better suited to taking out Nadal than Djokovic's, his backhand handles Nadal's forehand even better than Cvac's. Goooo Ernie!!!!

Why is Nadal going into the Gulbis backhand? That shot looks very comfortable for Gulbis, no down the line forehands or moving Gulbis out to his right yet.

The King needs a new strategy...He has got to keep the ball out of the Gulbis backhand strike zone.

Nadal's shot landing on the baseline, Gulbis weak response.

But 4 - 0 Gulbis.

Edit : Nadal has now started changing his pattern of play, he is going a bit more into that forehand side.

What I can't understand is why when those players such as Gulbis that can serve very strongly and out wide, do NOT serve and volley. Granted, I've not played at that level or close to it.... But seriously, he's so far back, even with his speed, can he make up that distance to recover a good volley be it deep or drop/short?
