so tony won 60 60 over a 3.0-3.5 guy

next up is 4.5 17 yr old

Tough day today in tough conditions and hurt my knee on a slide, but pulled out 3 wins!

First opponent can be erratic but certainly is 5.0-5.5 and serves/hits huge, so dangerous when on

Tony, it sucks that you didn't live in the area to play Redfoo. That would have been funny. :)

He's certainly not a 4.5 and is college age. The guy Tony played is top 3 at Gustavus, a top tier D3 college. More like a strong 5.0 player.

I know this since I play with a decent 4.5 player who's currently on the Gustavus JV squad.

Aurellian

Semi-Pro
Maybe he is a Talk Tennis 3.0-3.5.

You know, with a 120mph serve, who can hang with Errani, and can beat someone multiple levels higher with athleticism as long as it's a good matchup.

In which case, Tony will be lucky to win a set.

LOl...the legend increases....

Haha, I think he was just saying that he himself was a 4.0 giving his 2 cents, not that my opponent was a 4.0, which wouldnt be the case since he played D1 and all. But thanks!

Us Open sectional this weekend. If things go according to plan, ill either be playing Evan Song or Brian Battistone in the final. Playing mixed as well so should be fun!

And now a win over Battistone! :) It looks like my prediction(s) of a few years ago were sound. Thankfully you've not encountered any of those Atlanta 4.5's yet Tony! ;) ;) Best, and Good Luck!!! BHBH

Michelle,

Give us the video of the Men's Singles Final!

Sorry guys, if he were playing close to SLO, we'd be there...but seeing as we do all our filming here on the Central Coast, it isn't really an option to cover his matches -- hence the blog ;)

Our own playtesters play tournaments and don't even get their tournaments on film (like Andy when he was playing Futures or even now when he's playing Open tournaments).

Sorry -- maybe we can figure out a way to get Tony a go-pro camera or something. I know he's had a couple tournaments where someone has filmed his match for him.

Is putting a go-pro camera behind the fence of the tournaments that playtesters play not allowed? Do they even want to do that? I honestly don't imagine Mark or Brittany going through the hassle of Joe Schmo/ Jane Schmo complaining about being filmed.

It would be interested for friend or traveling tennis mate to film his matches or attach a video log!

P.S. The racquet Tony was playing with looked like a Becker 11 MP on one of his pictures, then I realized that the cosmetic has a darker warm color.

For the most part, it's tough because when you're in a tournament you're trying to focus on the tournament and not making sure your matches get filmed, etc.

I will see what we can do to get some footage of Tony as we would enjoy it as well, just not something in our capabilities at this moment.

I think Tony uses a Head racquet.

Michelle,

Thanks for the consideration!

That is true about tournaments (which I can relate as well).

Yeah, I knew that Tony switched to Head from Wilson.

Thanks so much guys for all the support! This win meant alot to me and it will always be a very special day to remember. I told Michelle this same thing but I unfortunately did not have the match filmed in the final. As you can probably understand after reading how I felt physically and about how I was playing after Saturday, I was not very confident going into the final and was hesitant about having the camera out that it could make me even more nervous. I really regret not having it taped because I played quite well and it was my favorite win ever.

One of my friends who came to watch taped some points on his phone and posted a fun one onto facebook. I will try to embed the link with the html code but I really dont know anything about that stuff:

<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=10151648526336108" width="1280" height="720" frameborder="0"></iframe>

To answer an earlier question, yes I still use my old Head radical racquet! I am trying to transition into something new, such as the Wilson Blade and some other possibilities, but I cant make a switch during these important competitions yet.

Most of us understand Tony.

The link doesn't work! :(

The Head Radical MP? Hm, it nearly passed as a Becker Delta Core Legend. I guess it was the camera angle of the picture. Of course, it isn't very wise to switch racquets without practicing extensively for competitions.

Keep up the good work Tony!

Did Battistone give you an autograph?

Did Battistone give you a racket?

He seems to be a really nice guy. I talked with him some at the Colorado Open and a guy I played against has a Battistone racket and has a lot of nice things to say about him.

I would pay like 4.95 to see that match on video

If you get your matches on video you can set it up as a pay per watch on youtube, and we as your supporters will help support you by watching for a small charge.

Think about it

a few bucks to watch a match of yours is much better spent then watching some overpaid actor in a fake movie

Rhetorical question I assume.

Wait, an opponent you played against at the Colorado Open had a Battistone racquet and spoke good word about Brian while he is there?

Okay..... it wouldn't really make sense if he didn't speak good word of him because you were a complete stranger. Do you really think a random opponent would speak negatively about Battistone while he is at the tournament? That would be a pretty stupid thing to do.

Hold on and think about dropping money before you jump on the bandwagon Buster.

There's nothing wrong with supporting a local user on the forum, but there is too many variable in regarding paid internet programming.

Let's say 150 people actually pay $5 to see high-ranked Tony matches ($750 total). I believe Youtube and other parties would take the majority of the money and redistribute it among one another. In other words, Tony would probably get less than 45% of the money.

I'm working with Tony to explore some options on getting some footage and/or full matches taped.

And if we figure this out, no one will need to pay for it! ;)

Just know we are working on it and hope to be able to bring you some footage in the future.

Thanks,

Michelle, TW

well I have no idea what % he gets, nor do you, but we can find out.

its certainly an option that could work.

We can at least get a donate paypal button right? I will toss him a few bills

Michelle,

Thanks. People should be able to see great tennis matches without paying a dime for it.

?????

I talked with Brian Battistone for a while when he was playing the Colorado Open - both about tennis in general and his racket. I've played a few times with a guy in winter indoor block time who plays with a Battistone racket. (so no, I'm not a complete stranger) It initially throws me off because the ball comes off the racket at an angle you don't expect. He has gone to Utah a couple of times to talk with Brian about getting the racket the way he wants it and tips on how to take full advantage of the 2-handled racket.

Okay, so the guy that owns the racquet Battistone has apparently knows him (and so do you as well).

Have you asked the guy why does he play with Battistone's racquet?

but have an option for those that want to help out

If you really want to donate money that will actually be in good use, go to your local club and write a check for the kids or something like that.

Some people like to know where the money goes when donating or paying for services. I already know if something like this actually happened, the player wouldn't get much from the proceeds.

That's why I don't donate money most charities. A large percentage of the donated money goes to the payroll and other places.

So you're telling me a direct donate paypal link wont go to Tony? pfffff

Thanks for the help. I'm a big boy, and I will decide where I send my money, and my mind is made up that I want to donate directly to Tony.

Have a sweet night Overdrive

Tony would receive all of the money from a direct PayPal transfer. If sender sends from a bank account. If from a credit card it's 2.9 percent fee.

Just looked it up on Paypal

Hey Tony, welcome back and good luck @ the Saskatoon Futures!

I'm going to try to catch some of it and hopefully your match(es). Will have to slip away from work to do so. My buddy says he's stringing your racquet and at least 3 guys I know are playing in qualifiers (will all probably get double bageled/breadsticked). One of them had consistently won and made the finals of our Open tournaments here, but he barely plays, only once a year he claims, so I don't know if he trained properly for this.

Hopefully you make it deeper this year!

If anyone is in the area and has a chance to go to Saskatoon and also happens to have a video camera, or smart phone, feel free to tape some of Tony's matches and/or points!

Maybe in the future we can see which of our TonLars Talk Tennis fans are in the area and could help get some matches on video, to share with everyone on Talk Tennis?

In the mean time, here's a blog from Tony:

Michelle,

Here's some footage I took of Tony last year against Philip Bester, a 200 ranked player in the world:

Here are links to all the videos, which you can view and/or download by clicking on the "Options" button, then "Download Video". Even though the clips are short (to conserve battery at the time), the files can be quite large:

Full HD Video

1080 HD Video

Please note: default setting is 480p, so you'll have to manually select 1080p to see it in high quality. Tony is in white, Bester is in blue.

I missed Tony's match, but my hitting partner saw him and said he was AMAZING! Apparently both guys were zoning and Tony's opponent was in awe of the shots Tony was pulling off.

He's got a tough qualifying draw, but he should make it into the main draw like he did last year.
