How can a superior athlete beat a superior tennis player?

I told ryan harrison to take a look at this thread. And he just called me and said the op is a legit 3.5. He asked me if I would ask the op to play as his doubles partner in the AO this year. Op can play fh. Since its his strength and he can hit winners off an atp level serve. Harrison said he will take the bh side because his bh is slightly better than the ops.
He figures since the op can hit 50% first serves at 120 they will not lose any service games. 50% at 120 is better than nadal so harrison is confident they can possibly beat the bryans.

He remembered me? that's awesome, tell him the dude that smacked himself in the head with his own racket after the 50 year old chick took a headshot on him..if he can't recall that, he may recall the ruskie model I was with....the one who carried around the five month old issue of euro vogue that she was in and "read" it every time she sat down...

man, that was a pretty shot: I just took a big backswing, stepped in, and drove it right up the line..yea, he was just messing around, but I wasn't and got a great story from that.

at another camp, i aced a (no named) woman on tour twice in two sets in the play a pro session...

please tell RH, that true to my Roman name, I do not play sport for $$, it is beneath me...athletes, actors, and women of the night..

are you this rich to have you benefit in your name? man, I envy you. i had to bust my buttin college to get a job on the Street where I had to work 80 hours a week, chase a ball at school for financial aid...the ivy league says its all need based but when I stopped playing i had to take out a loan, and now because the clowns in congress can't agree on a budget, I have to go to grad which is useless because the job I was promised in Vienna is not being funded....man, i wish I was rich like you...I mean it...

No, he can't. Not in a million years. You are full of crap. It is painfully obvious you are an attention ***** and simply trolling on here to feed that need. Ryan Harrison? ROFL. Literally, ROFL.

You are a total buffoon. I will waste no more time trying to point out truth to you. You are not capable of recognizing it. The sad thing is that you cannot see how foolish you look. I doubt you ever will. What a sad, pathetic little man.

Is the tennis in NC as good as the BBQ?

It's all about the matchups, I mean, with the right matchup, a 3.0 can challenge a 4.5 as we all know.

Here's a couple of 3.0 buddies of mine playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6Dq2V0m-Bc

I've seen the guy in the red stripes crank his serve up to 120mph, but usually he tones it down to around 105mph in order to get a higher percentage. Anyway, when he is on even a 4.5 struggles to return it and he can occasionally steal a set. And don't be fooled by his backhand, he recently switched from a 2HBH to a more Fed-like 1 hander and is getting close with the technique but not quite there yet. It's now a few months later and it's much better than what you see in the video.

And then the guy in the blue as you can see is super athletic and has mad hops; he can basically get to anything and you can't get a ball past him. He gives 4.5s trouble on certain days just by being able to run everything down.

I'm a legit 4.5 and have lost sets to both of these guys.

I had money like you, I would buy rackets and tennis shoes and new balls for those that could not afford it I HATE PLAYING WITH OLD BALLS AND REFUSE TO DO SO...put a court in my back yard..well get a house that could support this first...no apple before the cart...and fly in 10 slavic female 19-24 year old players and have them play au nautrelle in front of me....man, that would be the life, i would also go on 3.0 USTA tour and travel with Johhnie Mac and take lessons from NB four days per week...I would also get a chauffuer and butler who would never be out of wimbledon tuxedos..I would also become a bundler to the next GOP President and secure an Ambassadorship to Slovenia or Serbia.

I would also drink Blue Label like a real American instead of this Ciroc that I have been since 1400 today.

Those guys in that video aren't taking a set off anyone at 4.0 or above Rolf....... I doubt they'd get a game off a 4.5 and could get golden set'd

Of course you do claim to have been a high-level football player and I'm pretty sure the guys in that video don't have much athletic experience... so I don't think it really addresses the "superior athlete" claim. .. Looking forward to seeing your videos....

Don't football player's have different skill sets, depending on their skills and the position they play?
Does an offensive lineman have good hand eye, superor quickness, and big serves in a TENNIS context?
Can a DB be the ultimate athlete, football wise, to make the transition to tennis?
We all know high school QB's were the best athletes for teenagers, but once they reach adulthood, seem slow, weak, and prone to stumble bumming around.
What about the linebackers, to me the superior athletic specimens. I played left side OLB :):) all 3 years of high school, while alternating with coach's pet (son of the college coach who coached JimPalmer) at TE. I caught more than twice as many balls, and pass blocked better.
While the D lineman can be quick, huge, and really strong, don't know if those skills really translate to tennis.
Wide recievers can run fast, run PATTERNS really well, but aren't the best at reacting to another's whims.
I'd say overall, a CB playing in the defensive backfield translates best to the world of tennis.

He plays 4.5 and wins about 33% of his matches and I play 3.0 with about a 90% win rate.

I don't know what I am save streaky...I don't play like most players do...I have way more power, a lot more foot speed, and sometimes if the better player has a bad day and my serve is on I win...
I know you don't know, that why I explained the rating system to you, so you can figure it out. Like I said, if you beat 4.0 C players, even occasionally, who are feeling OK physically (meaning, no injury or other ailments), then you're at least 3.5. If you win against 4.5 C player, then you're 4.0, etc.

Nothing personal, man---but that is not a 3.0 player you are describing. Read the USTA NTRP description of a 3.0 player. The very fact that he is capable of serving at 120 MPH and fairly consistently at 105 MPH pushes him way yonder past the 3.0 range. Now, I'm not gonna argue with you over what his "official" rating is, but that skill set is far beyond what any 3.0 is defined as having.

D lineman might be a decent doubles player if he doesn't have to move up and back too much. One step or two lateral movement, quick hands. PERHAPS, return and follow in to net. BUT, lobs? no chance, too much wieght to be nimble enough.

No 3.0 is going to take a set from a 4.0 or a 4.5. I'm a strong 3.0, have won two tournaments already this year and am lucky to win a game or two from a 4.0.

And, I have an average 3.0 serve: 65-75 mph. That's pretty much the same across the board for most 3.0s that i've encountered. I've played in 3 tournaments so far this year, and I've never seen another 3.0 serve twice as fast as I do. Not even a 3.5, and I play a lot of 3.5 folks.

My 5.5 coach serves 120 mph. Needless to say, I can't even get my stick on it, let alone attempt to return it. If I was facing a 120 mph serve, that's an instant loss for me.

Any athletic 3.0 can serve 120. Only using pancake grip. Then they can dominate 3.0 forever. And take sets off 5.0 who have the flu. But only if they dont get the yips.

Well, granted he's a freak (actually he was THE freak), but Jevon Kearse was a 6'4'' 260+ lbs defensive lineman who could run the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds. That's as fast as many, many wide receivers. In fact, it's faster than a lot of them too.

People shouldn't be too quick to judge football players...there are some pretty amazing athletes in the NFL.

EDIT: I completely understand tennis is much more than just raw speed, but I'm just trying to put things into perspective.

I would think, if you really WERE a superior athlete, you can learn the strokes in no time, and in 3 years of experience be able to play competitively in A/Open or 5.5 levels.
Don't need no frickin tactics, just crush the ball into any corner, run like the wind, and with your god given athletic talent, never miss.
Kinda like jungle ball in basketball. Just dribble to the hole, elevate and dunk.

Joking or not, I agree with this. Of course you have to have he right mind set too.

How do you beat people before you even started to play tennis? Fantasy tennis in your mind?

Before I started to play with consistency.

I was better than the guy in every way possible accept mechanics. I got to every ball he hit and returned it often with extra cheese. When I would hit it, he was expecting cheese and would get annoyed. So, maybe more than anything I beat him by getting in his head.

I don't think its possible I used to practice with a professional soccer player who had been playing for only 3 years when he played me. I was amazed that when he served and volleyed his racquet was actually at the net be the time I returned his serve. This helped him hit a few volley winners but I started mixing in a few lob returns and I don't think he ever got closer than 6-3.

If you have a complete game you can beat fellas like this. experience matters, but you have to have to be proficient enough to do stuff like slice low to the bh over and over again.
