Anyone hybrid multi with syngut?

Do the syngut mains move a lot? That is my biggest worry. I usually use NXT Tour mains with a copoly cross, but the poly crosses will die within 2 weeks. Maybe a durable, slick syngut work work as well as a cross with multi mains?

I usually use NXT Tour mains with a copoly cross, but the poly crosses will die within 2 weeks.

The mains dominate the feel/performance of the stringbed, especially if the main is at a significantly higher tension than the crosses.

I tension my NG mains @50 and my co-poly crosses @30.

Even after 50 hours, I don't feel any feel/performance degradation.

If I use poly on the mains or a full bed of poly, then yes, I notice a drop-off in feel/performance after about 15 hours.

Bottom line:
Don't worry too much about the poly cross dying quickly.
I don't think you will notice it.

Wow, thats a huge disparity between the two! I've never heard of 20 lbs difference like that.

I use muti/syngut hybrids a fair amount. I do it to dampen the response of the multis. Many multis are too lively/powerful for me. Syngut crosses dampen them quite a bit -- and give me a perfect balance.

I find many multis have better coatings than syn guts. They slide better and generate a better spin. Overall response is much better than plain syngut.

Recently have had very good results with Head ETS and Prince Recoil, both with Forten Sweet.

I have not tried SynGut mains / Multi crosses.

That's my go-to set up. NRG2 in the mains, gosen OG In the crosses at 58/60. The synth gut helps taming down the power of NRG without sacrificing durability

Sadly yeah, but since I'm used to re-align the strings between points it not that big of a deal for me

I've used a few multi/syn gut setups, currently X-One Bipahse 17 mains w Gosen Sheep Micro 17 crosses. I've noticed and opponents have commented on a good increase in spin, mainly evident in serves and when I try for short cross court angles.

The main difference in feel for me is I think I can feel the sensation of the mains sliding up and snapping back. It's tactile, and feels a bit plasticky and crisp compared to full multi, which to me feels softer and more muted. Also, I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think I get a better response from a full bed of multi when I hit at the top of the hoop. I haven't really been tracking this too closely, but over time I think the hybrids have less power when hitting at the top of the hoop.

Overall I prefer the feel of full bed multi over the hybrids, but only marginally. The performance of the hybrid outweighs the very slight plasticky feel. Generally costs me $20 for a hybrid string job vs $15 for full bed too.

Do the strings move around a lot in that setup?

Follow-up from my previous post. I´m not sure why, but NRG2 black string moves a lot less than the natural color one. I´ve been playing a full week with NRG2/Gosen OG sheep (both in black colour) at the same tension I used with the natural ones, and I´m not adjusting the strings between points at all. Plus, the frames are looking a lot better :)

Im playing with multi 17/sgut 17 right now and I like it. Strings do move but they all do unless you put a poly in there. The downside is that I get less spin compared to my old poly 17/sgut 17 setup, but I switch because I don't have to re-string as much.

Right now I'm using asterisk 17 and ogsm 17. I just ordered RIP 16 and premiere 16 and can't wait to try those.

Eventually I want to try poly 16g/sgut 17g again but not cf 16. I just didn't like how it played, but it did last a long time over winter.

I wouldn't recommend stringing your racket 20lb difference like the guy in the 2nd post. lol. By my experience I always string the softer string tighter regardless of main/cross.

A couple of hybrids I tried

I recently tried and enjoyed a couple of multi/syngut hybrids. I tried NXT control crossed with Golden Set syngut 17G at 60/60 lbs and Prince Premiere Attack 17G with GS syngut 17G at 58/58 (CP).
I should mention that I also spray my strings with a little Armor All to decrease friction and increase playability.

Both setups played quite nicely -- not too much movement at the beginning and pretty good power and control.

Overall, I think the hybrids feels less mushy than the corresponding full bed multis. I also found both very easy on the arm.

I originally tried these hybrids out of curiosity as well as seeing if I could lower the cost of using NXT control which I liked full bed. For me it worked out ok -- I will continue to play these when I feel my arm needs a break.

Just my two bits worth.

I like syngut mains with multi crosses because it lasts a long time. With a poly cross, syngut will start notching right away but with a multi cross it takes several hours before it starts notching.

I use tnt2 17 in the mains and ogsm 17 crosses in my rqis tour 1s. the mains move quite a bit but they're 17 gauge so 16s might be better. It seems like I get almost as much spin from this setup as I did with a full bed of multi (yonex pro 850 tour to be precise). not really a poly guy so I can't compare that for you. I rotate my sticks and since I've been "promoted" to daddy daycare, I don't play to much but I can get almost a year out of my sticks before I notice dead stringbeds. hope this helps.

Anyone else care to recommend a good multi/syngut combo? I am specifically looking for a syngut that mimicks poly as a cross, so it should be fairly slick and stiff (not mushy and too soft).

thanks

I need to rest my arm a little this week so Im going to throw in some thunder blast mains and forten sweet crosses to get through a few days of tennis. Tension at 62/60.

I really liked the feel of the softer setups in the MP, so I will post how it goes.

I have 2 packs of black Thunder Blast that you can have.

Try Wilson Sensation or Head Rip Control in the mains.
Try Head PPS in the crosses, or nylon MONOFILAMENT. Last but not least (and don't laugh now), try the thinnest weed wacker line. The Laser Lawn & Garden and Super Trim come in 1.3mm. They are very slippery and much softer then propper polys.

As someone mentioned earlier, do a big tension deifferential, at least 10lbs. I've been stringing like that for long time, 0 damage to the frames.
Lubricate the string bed every 2 hours or so.

I got 2 hours last night with the thunder blast/sweet combo. It was 57#s off the stringer.

What I noticed was the spin was still real heavy, but I am getting a lot of racquet head speed with this Speed MP, plus the pattern is really friendly for it.

I believe I was swinging a bit harder though for that spin compared to my usual poly mains, so the arm comfort was not significantly better, but the feel was nice.

The strings moved, but it was not annoying to me. I didn't have to adjust them much.

I don't see this setup lasting me much longer though. Maybe 4 more hours if I get lucky.

The other thing I don't like as much is I have to string tighter. I like the feel of poly at 50#s, dropping down to the mid 40s before breaking. It's just an easier setup to control for me. With this setup, I have to swing harder since the tension is higher, and the spin output is a little lower.

It still plays really well and it doesn't suck by any means. Overall tension loss has been 5 pounds.

From the 'holic thread:

14 hours and counting with this string job

We're talking NXT mains and the cheapest Babolat syngut in the crosses. That's absolutely insane. I usually saw through NXT in about 6 hours with an open pattern.

The best thing is that in 14+ hours I've lost zero playability with this setup, whereas I would have gone through 2-3 poly jobs in the EXO by this point. Tension maintenance is fantastic, from an original 60#'s it feels no looser than 55# right now.

Sure, I've put in over 30 string savers , but still, there's barely any sting movement with this racquet and string combo. The strings really locked themselves into place.

I'm telling you guys, this string job is immortal! I call it The Night of the Living TEC setup .

Well i got 5 hours out of the 16 gauge setup. Played pretty well for 3 hours but then lost tension and became launchy. A center main snapped after it started to shear and the gig was up.

Anyone use Prince Lightning XX in a hybrid or full bed.

I'm right now playing with a full bed of 16 gauge and liking it but I saw some reviews siting durability issues. I've only had it in for about 6 hours.

Was wondering if using it in a hybrid would increase the durability.

I liked this type of combo when I was younger. I find full multi to be too mushy at times and a good syn gut will make the string bed a bit more crispy feeling.

If you are not breaking it after about 15 hours and you like it then sounds like you are ahead of most of the people on this forum. I know of a guy that plays 5.0 with a LM Radical MP and uses Lightning and does very well with it.

Wondering about using hybrid composed of a s-gut like Hexy Fiber in 16 gauge and of PPA 17. The twist being that PPA will be the stiffer string here; Hexy being quite soft and muted, gives much more pocketing than PPA for sure. Why these gauges? Because they are the ones I have. Any thoughts on it? Worth trying, or better stick to full bed?

prefer multi/syn to full multi.

I've been enjoying Hexy Fiber 16 mains with OGSM 17 or Forten Sweet 17 crosses at around 55lbs for a while now. The Forten Cross is livelier and has great touch, the Gosen crisper, lower powered and lets me hit through the ball more. Both setups have *excellent* spin, feel and comfort. The mains do move a lot but they are easy to slide back btw points. I get 10-15 hours. Might last longer with 16g cross, don't have any on hand to try atm.

I tend to prefer multi/syn to full mutli, just gives me a firmer, more familiar response than full multi and of course drops the price as a bonus.

Old topic, but just to add another option: Babolat Addiction 1.30 as mains combined with Babolat Synthetic gut 1.30 in crosses. Great combi for me and some of the people I string for. On clay should last you at least 8 times on average. And keeps performing until it snaps.
