Yes he did, and i am actually desperate to find highlights of his match this year against Dodig in Zagreb.
Dodig was S & V a lot in that match and Karlovic hit around 10 flat backhand passing shot winners  i could not believe what i was seeing

Thanks man, I try to search up that match as well.

I think it's sealed now that Stan has slipped back, but it was touch and go for a while there. Fed could easily go out against Istomin and then not win a match in Paris. Gasquet and Tsonga will be playing at home in France, and Wawa was surely expected to do well in Switzerland so I was definitely not 100% sure of Fed going to London. Even now it's at about 90%.

I dunno, I am living under the assumption that Fed might not go far here or in Paris, but at least win a couple of matches. Then Gasquet, Waw and Tsonga would pretty much all have to make at least the QF in Paris to even have a chance.
There is I guess the offchance of Raonic making the final in Paris, that would make it interesting :)

As long as Nadal doesn't pull out of Paris, then Fed should be relatively safe for WTF. The reason being that Gasquet would then be seeded #9 for Paris, which means that he could play either Federer, Berdych, Stan or Tsonga in the 3rd round, limiting the amount of points two of the players can get.

But then again I'm sure by coincidence Gasquet will land on Federer or Berdych's path.

I think people might feel different about it if he were 7th, and not 8th right now.

I don't know about Tsonga and Gasquet not doing well - they're going to be home, with the support of the Paris crowd. And as others have said here, the point gaps between places are very narrow. A win or loss in a single match seems like it could make the difference.

Fed will make it. He only needs to finish 9th in the race because Murray is out. Great no problem. Also Fed will most likely Basel title so that will cement things.

I am Roger's fan, but I have no idea what you're basing this on.

Even if neither Istomin nor Dimitrov (or Dolgopolov) pulls the upset, the likelihood will be he still has to get past Berdych.

If you look here, Fed is likely to end 7th in the race by the end of Basel, because Gasquet and Stan needs to replace their points in order to add more in the race. Tsonga is still the one with the fewest points atm. It's likely that Stan's tanking Basel and saving for Paris for one last push.

Yeah I noticed that. Does that mean that Tsonga does have a good chance of making the WTF because he didn't play many tournaments? In which case Wawrinka should really make sure to not have another early loss in Paris, I want him to qualify. He deserves it after this season.

I didn't see the match by the way. What happened? Did it look like Wawrinka was trying? Did he have a bad day? Was it something mental, nerves? Agghh.. it would have been great for him to get to the semis or maybe more.

Berydych not looking so good himself against Karlovic.

Indoors GOATing for Fed is like riding a bicycle, he never forgets it and is always just a single match away from being able to do it once again.

It doesn't matter in Paris. The reason why Stan and Gasquet needs to replace points is because they played more than 6 ATP 500 & 250s, whereas right now Fed has the advantage because he only has played in Rotterdam, Dubai, Halle, Hamburg, Gstaad. So he can just add Basel points to his total.

I thought it was something about playing 19 tournaments in total that count. Don't know about the 500 and 250s sepperately

19 means (for players out of top 8 it's 18)

1 WTF
4 Grand Slams
8 mandatory Master 1000s
6 500/250s (including Monte Carlo)

The 6 tournaments with the most points will form the last category. I believe that a player must play at least 4 500 events, otherwise there will be a 0 point penalty taking up one of the 6 spaces which cannot be replaced.

Fed's chances to win this title have increased today from 50% to 75%. Bye bye Stan and Tomas. Hopefully Delpo next.

Credit to Ivo he actually played a good tiebreak there.

The moment I saw the draw I knew Berdych was gonna have a tough time.

Fed couldn't have it much better than this. Given the circumstances now it's just as good as his RG draw this year, he better not mess this up again.

Fed was probably too busy watching Basel in the Champions League to take note that his SF opponent and recent nemesis is out.

Good news for Fed but there's a long way to go before the semi finals yet.

And it's not like Ivo couldn't beat Fed if he plays like that anyway.

First up - Istomin.

Ivo has beaten Roger...when Federer was in his prime.

This is what I'm thinking.

Plus Dr. Ivo has an extra incentive for a mighty comeback since he was out with that illness.

I hope Roger can take him out. But I don't assume it's a given.

Wait.. Why in the world are we talking about Federer-Karlovic? Federer has to play Istomin and Dimitrov first, who are both bigger threats. Karlovic is pretty on and off and I see him losing in one of his next 2 rounds (Haase/Pospisil and Nishikori).

Don't look too far ahead..

Forgive the naïve question: why is Karlovic called Dr. Ivo? Does he have a PhD or MD degree?

IINM, it's a play on words -- the original "Dr. Evil" -- in addition to which, when he plays in his shades, at his height, he really does look a little intimidating. So it's like calling him Dr. Evil without really going all the way there.

Lol at Istomin being a threat to Federer. Come on this is indoors season and Fed has got this!

with Fed at this level, anything can happen.
all the lesser players feel they can beat him and they play differently.

This is why its a problem for Federer now more than anything. For years he's had that unbeatable persona and oppenents often beat themselfs when Federer produces a magic shot and they think they cant win. Thats not the case now, anyone who is feeling good that day will fancy their chance to take him out even if he's playing well.

Isner just takes out Gulbis in 2 tiebreaks, classic Isner...only caught the end, not sure if there were any breaks (live scoreboard needs to be just a bit quicker though they do a great job)

sorry, my bad completely, they're playing in Valencia, doh!...no breaks though...0-8 for Isner....0-10 for Gulbis
