Poly and cold weather

Do polys break less often during the winters......

I tend to break polys in roughly 5 hours especially TBHSR 16g but during the current cold spell it is lasting longer and the ball flying

My elbow lets me know if I use full poly below 50 degrees. If below 45 it cries.

So, yes. Poly lasts longer for me in the cold weather because it stays in the bag :)

I don't know the exact thermal dynamics involved but you would probably be more likely to break and poly in cold weather due to the material being slightly more brittle than in warm weather. But the reason it might not be breaking is because the shots you are playing against move slower in the cold weather.

That said, if the ball is flying on you in the cold, the string job is probably dead and you should change it and restring at a lower tension to accommodate for the colder temperatures.

what happens if you use poly in 10-20 degree weather ? if you have been using poly for years, how do you just switch just like that to Multi because weather is cold ?? Can you do that ?

What do you guys think about stringing it 5 lbs lower ?? would that be better than just switching to multi ?

The ball is not moving as fast in cold conditions and that is why it is probably lasting longer. That would be my best guess.

I was under the impression that as there is less moisture in the air during the winters the ball travels faster.
In addition as one of the posters above mentioned that the strings theoretically should be more brittle during the winters and break faster but the reverse is happening

On a side note does any one else break Tourna Big hitter silver rough 16 g in roughly 5 hours of hard hitting these days. I dont get it why is this happening to me.

Plus at the moment I am playing with the pacific x force and that is lasting longer. Counter though is that during the summers even that did not last more than around 8 hours

I found it to be just the opposite. I broke a string on 2 rackets during the last cold spell here in Tx.

I am of the opinion that poly gets more brittle in cold weather and tends to break instead of bend.

now I will find out how quickly I break them......Faster or slower than in the summers

i prefer going 5lbs lower. How anyone can switch back and forth from poly to a multi is beyond me.
