Nadal won't miss any tournaments

In the news, that is their statement. What exactly is his plan now? I guess knees injury was outdated? Now he has an excuse for the rest of this season.

So Nadal will play even in some Micky Mouse tournaments despite he's knee, hamstring, neck, back, nose, head, butt, palm, elbow, etc problems?

Oh, what a shock!

Bobby guy, you don't need to be an expert to know that Nadal takes advantage of MTOs to break the rhythm of his opponents and make every loss about his injuries rather than giving full credit to his opponents.

Oh, what a shock!

Paul, it's NOT a shock for you! Instead of that you are very happy every time Nadal is injured. Bravo!

Guess you belittle Rafa to "prove" that darling Federer, the Swiss No.2, is better than Nadal...

BobbyOne, you don't need to post and read threads about Nadal that you disagree with, unless you are on his payroll!

Yikes, you leave poor BobbyOne alone! He has a new joke about Federer being the Swiss no.2 that he likes to repeat, as if nobody had noticed the rankings this week.

MADRID -- Rafael Nadal doesn't expect to miss any tournaments as a result of the back injury that contributed to his loss in the Australian Open final.

A statement from the world's top-ranked player says he will have another medical exam on Monday after doctors in Barcelona examined his back following his return from Australia.

Nadal lost Sunday's final in Melbourne 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka after he injured his back.

Nadal says he still plans to play his next tournaments in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Indian Wells and Miami.

Doctors have prescribed anti-inflammatory medication and physical therapy to speed his recovery.

Only stating the obvious, Nadal fans have as many or more excuses for him than he has himself!

What does anti-inflammatory medication do? (If you know) Are they like...enhanced version of pain killers or something? Or is it a surgery?

It's ibuprofen, or Motrin over the counter and there are stronger ones with prescription. Also oral steroids are powerful anti inflammatory, used to treat back pain.

Clay as far as the eye can see. Nadal is in heaven. There is nothing more fun than clay. Why would he skip it? He only stretched a back muscle. A few days of rest and he will be fine. It didn't last long but it happened at the worst time possible.

Its the perfect setup.

Rafa wins: hes all good.

Rafa loses: hes nursing a lingering injury so this shouldn't count

Wow.. I am shocked.. shocked I tell ya...LOL

The King of the MTO is not really hurt?? Who would have guessed?

Personally, I can't see Nadal losing in any tournament until possibly Wimbledon/Halle. Discounting the post USO 2013 stretch and the AO final he seems to have become practically invincible vs the field.

W.P.M, I did notice that GOAT Federer is now No. 8 in the world (not too bad for a man with a backhand weakness) but Roger is still the Swiss No.2. Hope he will not fall to No.3 soon!

I watched the whole match, from the warm up, and Nadal winced badly after a serve in the second set and also after a groundstroke at one stage, when he slowly leaned over afterwards and he was in obvious pain. He was crushed at not being able to go all out and he was gracious with the crowd during his acceptance speech. There is a YT video that I saw that is telling. I will look for it again to post it. Essentially, Nadal is telling his Uncle that it's going to be very difficult to continue and he is feeling the back muscle strain/spasms. That is very different than a herniated disc, bone, hip and/or spine issues that take a long time to "heal" or are chronic conditions. After a point, Nadal is wondering whether he can continue and is very upset early in the second set. He looks over at his Uncle and you know what I think Toni Nadal says? "Vamos, Vamos"! My take on that exchange is that Uncle Toni is letting Nadal know to just suck it up and press on..he should just stay at it and keep trying his best. Retirement should be a last resort in this very anticipated major final. Then, that's exactly what Nadal did as he continued to try and pull off the win somehow physically. The MTO in my opinion was warranted. After the point at about 5:20 in this video, Uncle Toni was letting Nadal know that "you need to press on here, stop complaining about the fix you are in during this match". He did that by just clapping loudly and looking straight back at Nadal who was talking and not pleased to say the least, just saying "Vamos" several times. Now that is much easier said than done of course, especially for an emotional player like Nadal who leaves everything on the court during a match, knowing that he will most likely not be able to win a big final. That's great news that Nadal will be playing again soon and he will be back. A chronic condition would have been a huge issue for him going forward.

borg number one, It's good that there are posters here who don't belittle Nadal unfairly and who confirm that Rafa was really injured and under pain.

Thank you sir, I appreciate it. I'm just calling it as I see it. These top pros do so much on a tennis court year after year don't they?

FNF, With this attitude I'm convinced you NEVER were a Nadal fan!

I know it seems like a stretch, but it's true; I was actually a pretty big Nadal fan at one point. I loved when he dethroned Fed at Wimbledon (not that I have anything against Fed - other than being a bit arrogant). But, when he did, I stood along side my wife and three kids and we cheered for that amazing victory.

Now, flash forward several years later and an onslaught of bogus MTO's, ridiculously timed bathroom breaks, about a billion finger jams up his backside (followed by rubbing his butt sweat - and other contaminants - all over his nose, ears, etc...), continuous on-court coaching, fake injuries, steroid suspicions, etc, etc, etc.... He's quite vile, to be honest.

I went from cheering for him to despising him (more so, his actions).

Sorry, but true.

As for the thread, at least Nadal wasn't seriously injured. His fans can look forward to seeing him back in action very shortly.

Lol. Yes many do Nathaniel, yet not everyone, that's for sure. Some folks even say anything to try and spin a story to somehow denigrate a player. It's really strange to observe, but it is what it is. When Federer is down, some try and really pile on and go overboard and we see it with Nadal as well in my opinion. It's the norm. Bobby_One's experience with tennis is a valuable asset for the forum.

True, but it's important to remember that many call it as they see it, and it happens to be a different opinion to those of some others, but is just as genuine and objective as humanly possible as another's take.

Some people just genuinely see things differently and believe honestly that they have justified reasons for doing so.

Yes, I agree. There are many posters just like that, which is why this is the best tennis forum around in my opinion and genuine tennis debates are very intriquing.

He'll be right as rain as soon as the clay season rolls around.

he always is. Its almost funny that in all the years since 2005. no matter how broken, broke down, and battered his body is (allegedly) he is always fit and ready to go in clay season, winning 3-4 clay masters en route to yet anohter FO win.

I wonder how a body can be so orderly whilst being so injury plagued...

Exactly. It's one of the many reasons why I've never liked the guy. He's a great player with some great qualities buy ultimately he's a phony and a fake.

Who called Federer GOAT? Either giddiness is blinding or the high mountain of age and knowledge from where you post is taking your oxygen away. I also hope Federer doesn't fall to number 3, to prevent further disappointment from you, mostly.

Nadal usually is injured on hardcourts or grasscourts. Clay is not a surface that bothers Nadal. Not just because its easy on the body, but also because Nadal has only played TWO five-setters at Roland Garros ever (and one of those was vs Isner, so not a lot of long rallies), and wins most of his matches at the other clay events with short sets (lots of 6-2, 6-1 and the occasional 6-0). Whereas at Wimbledon he struggles in the first week (adjusting to surface can be dangerous for your knees, especially adjusting from the highest bouncing surface to the lowest, within a week) and has to play 5-setters (and 5-setters in the final a couple of times too). And hardcourts are very damaging, and you can see how long you play on hardcourts, from Canada Masters all the way until Australian Open. And he usually doesn't play in February (so plenty of time to recover) or he plays a light-weight South American event. So its no wander that most of his injuries will not occur during the clay season.
