Andy Roddick with a blacked out frame?

What ? does he need a lighter more user friendly racket since he is old now ?

FFS, start searching the forum instead of actually writing this nonsense. Roddick has been using a PD Team Plus Swirly ever since he signed with Babolat. He customized it up to 345gr strung with OG and 360SW. Now go search the rest yourself.

Blacked out frames from ex tour players show no class at all. He is using a Babolat by choice so why hide the fact? Only to say hey I'm bigger than your brand because I'm so and so and I'm a bug deal. Next he will be walking in the streets drinking a can of blacked out coke.

He is still a name within the tennis world even if retired. In America he is probably as big still as most of the current American players on tour...So if a company who he has been with since first coming on tour doesn't want to continue that partnership thats on them. Clearly (or maybe not) it isnt A-Rod as he is still using the product. Then why should he give them free advertising. He is most likely at least half the reason your local tennis club has so many Babolat users. Look at how Wilson took care of Sampras at least early on into his retirement bring out a endorsed racket when he was off tour. Head with Andre, Dunlop (?) and McEnroe that is how you take care of your athletes. I mean McEnroe even has PE Vapors for crying out loud. It is easy to do the right thing tho with companies its about money and nothing more.

BTW McEnroe Vapors with a PE sole....

I say babolat has no class. Roddick made babolat if he didn't why give him a signature racquet. Then within the same year that he decides to retire why phase it out. They should've let it ride out till pure drives next generation in 2015. My guess babolat doesn't care and doesn't want to pay roddick any more.

If your major sponsor doesn't want to pay you would you want to advertise their brand.

amongst all the mudslinging..babolat has no class, roddick has no class..it was all agreed between the 2 parties when Andy retired.

Babolat was not his major sponsor, Lacoste paid more.

He had obviously a longer association with Babolat & Tarik B (his coach back then) set the whole thing in motion.
Both babolat & roddick profited from the association.

This might be one of the most preposterous statements I've ever read. How can you possibly even pretend to have any inside information about agreements between professional tennis players and the equipment they choose to use. You don't know the first thing about why a pro uses a blacked out frame so please don't pretend to.

Well of course. Roddick was on tour which meant that he was playing or practicing in eye of the public almost week in week out. Seems fair for babolat to want to stop paying Roddick after he retires from the tour.

Also you will find that I said ex pros not current pros. I think it is pretty obvious why an ex pro would use a blacked out racket.

^^ I suspect Babolat would have been just fine without Roddick. I first bought a PD before anyone had heard of Andy Roddick; the buzz about Bab was intense years earlier, after Moya had won a slam and reached #1 using one. Babolat already was gaining considerable momentum, so it's as fair to say Babolat made Andy Roddick as to suggest to converse.

No need to be condescending.........muppet.

I think it was actually Moya who got them rolling.
If you think that's condescending, then maybe the internet just isn't the place for you. As for Moya, to a degree, sure, but in terms of brand association and the ability to push sales on name and wins alone, he's not even in the same galaxy as Roddick.

Posted yesterday on the ATP Champion's Tour website (yeah, seems Roddick is old enough to play on it). Add a pair of Gel Resolution 5 to the blackened out frame.

What is that, a prince shoe?

And the stick does look like his. Probably had a buddy sand it and paint it black. Probably played a rolling stones song during the process

It is a little odd. Even sampras uses an actual pure control tour. Probably not getting a check for it.

It amazes me with the lack of loyalty of players, all the money Babolat, Reebok and Lacoste paid him over the years all the warm fuzzy corporate events etc...and still he goes on court without branding, he is not the first ex player and wont be the last, it's a shame.

i agree with you

And the text just over the picture you quoted says:

Thanks very much for pointing that out. I saw that, too!

Certainly looks like the asics logo on the sides in white. Almost looks like it says prince on the tongue.

I was making an oblique reference to the way asics and the prince t24 or 22 look to be designed similarly.

Also, i remember before lacoste and babolat, roddick wore reebok. Before that, he wore the fila rad and rad2 while using a prince frame. So, i have prince in my head....as i wonder why he is holding out for some babolat checks.

How do you know Babolat & all of his other ex-sponsors didn't drop him?

Babolat and Roddick didn't make each other, that's certainly true.

That said, it was a very fruitful partnership; in the early 2000's when Roddick was the hot new kid on tour with the spiky hair and killer serve/FH, Babolat was going through PD's like they were going out of style, and it sure wasn't b/c of Moya - in all the junior classes I went to, the stick of choice was the "Roddick racquet". Same with the pro shops - all the kids and rec players wanted what Roddick was swinging if they were buying Babolat. Babolat would have been successful either way, but saying that A-Rod gave them a massive shot in the arm in North America (where they needed it a lot more than Europe) would be a tremendous understatement.

So you have no idea.

No I don't, but I know enough not to make such preposterous statements as the ones you made. Guess there are a lot of no class ex-players out there

Not that preposterous. Common sense suggests that when an ex pro player blacks out a frame from a manufacturer that they used whilst they were on tour suggests that it is more likely that it has something to do with money than anything else.

I could be wrong of course but I formed an educated opinion and spoke my mind on a tennis forum. If I was forced to placed a bet on it I would back my previous statement.

Now recall Sampras putting american flags on his clothing whilst still playing on tour, reason being that nike didn't give him enough "respect"......aka money. Guess who else used a blacked out frame post retirement? ........

It's always about money, it's what drives loyalty.

I saw the Power Shares Series event on the 20th at the Toyota Center here in Houston. Agassi and Blake made the finals and were playing well. Andy Roddick seemed to be having some fun more than anything, out hitting some balls, but he's clearly at a very different stage of his tennis career these days after the grind on tour for many years. I've had a chance to watch him from the time he was about 18 and it's interesting to see his career arc. The first time I saw him play was at an exo versus Agassi in about 2000 and now here he is about 14 years later and he's still playing and having fun out there which was nice to see. There was a pretty good crowd and the players played some really good points. It's a fun format they have.

I dont think Roddick is at all bitter by not branding his rackets now if Babolat has dropped him. Roddick along with Moya and Clijsters were the three plaers that really put Babolat on the racket scene in the early 2000's. Roddick sold alot of rackets in the racket store where I worked, and unlike the Fed pro staffs and other players rackets, the Pure Drive's are the most user friendly rackets over so man styles and standards of play. If I could get hold of the Reebok Roddick gear I would be in heaven!

I've got that Reebok t-shirt with the speed limit sign made to commemorate his 150 mph serve. Brand new with tags, size XL. Couldn't believe it when I found it on The Bay last year. I also found his navy/white Reebok trucker hat and the all white Wimbledon version, both on The Bay at different times for $10 each. His stuff is out there, you just gotta keep checking.

I actually think he's not playing a Pure Drive.... The beam is so much thinner. Looks more like a Pure Storm if it truly is a Babolat (obviously not a Pure Control, due to the buttcap).

You are always offended by the slightest things imaginable. Roddick posts pictures of himself eating Donuts on twitter and has been very frank about his weight gain.

Chill the hell out.

Man I am shocked at Canas, he's nearly as heavy as I am!

Seeing that makes me want to hit the gym immediately.

Canas looks like he is having a bad reaction to PED usage. His artificial testosterone levels have dropped off from his playing days, so now his body's negative feedback mechanism is causing him to produce excess estrogen. :) That is the reason for the bloating and his huge butt.
