New Kirschbaum Strings - Max Power and Max Power Rough

I was just randomly checking the online shops and stumbled over these new offerings from Kirschbaum. It's a new Co-Polyester and I cannot seem to be able to find a good review or description of its characteristics (I think the name implies enough though), but I could order a few sets for testing purposes (currently two sets for the price of 1!!!). I am seriously considering buying this string for a few tests and coming back to you all with a review. If anybody has played with this string feel free to share your findings, I am eager to learn more about it

the price for one set is higher by €3.50. Pro Line II costs €8.40 per set and Max Power (Rough) costs €11.90 per set currently (though the set currently entails a second set for free). I am guessing a reel will be around €100-€120 but that's just guessing.

What do they look like? Does Max Power Rough look like a copy of ALU rough? Or is it shaped/twisted?

I haven't seen pictures up close as this seems to be a barely played string to this point, since it is a completely new offering, even in Germany...

It exists :shock:... The Pro Line III is an overworked version of the Pro Line II in a Rough version

Don't hold your breath NAdalgirl. Krischbaum rep whom I know mentioned nothing about these strings to me and I just spoke to him this week. If these are as hot as you think they are, I would have thought he would have said something to me about this during our last conversation.

The fact is that I can order both strings right now if I want to and you will find them available at German online shops, albeit not TWE.

Also, I very much like Federer's game and dislike Nadal's, so yeah, that "Nadalgirl" thing is something you should reconsider.

just to clarify the confusion about MAX Power and PLIII.
Kirschbaum distributed Test Samples with the Name Pro Line III.
But after their Test Period the Pro Line III comes as "Max power" (Rough) on the Market. So PLIII =Max Power / rough

I had a chance to paly with it.
What can i say:
i bought a reel immediatley. I looks and plays a lot like Alu Power.
It has the same dark grey/silver look and feel (in the hand) like AluPower.

First i thought with the Name "MAX Power" the String will have too much power.
And yes, it has power (more than PLX and a bit more than PLII) but with very very good control. You can make pace easy and winners a just perfect.
Spin potential i can´t complain about (for sure some textured Strings will be better here).
There was litte to no difference in the spin department between the Max Power and Max Power Rough in my opinion.
The Feel of the Max Power is absolutly great (best aspect of the String).
Great pop, very crisp an direct.
Once again not far away from alu Power.

So far, i think also the Tension maintanance and playing Duration is very good.

Summary in my opinion: a clear Winner String!

As what i heard: the Max power / rough will come also in 1,20 mm and 1,30mm

Kirschbaum is a german company and here in Germany we have earlier access to Kirschbaum strings generally. Also, as I have already said, I can purchase the string right now. Just accept it Fedace, the string exists and already is on the german market.

yeah they are. Per set it's €3.50 more at the moment (€8.40 vs €11.90).

Ouch, but with a review that likens it to ALU power I have to try it. I know I've previously mentioned that I'm not a fan of Kirschbaum strings but I do like Luxilon.

Yeah, I like Pro Line II also. Kirschbaum also doesn't seem like a company that brings out new strings until they have something significantly new and improved to offer. Initial reports on this one sound good. Price, not so good.

Hi Nostradamus. So did he call you yet? Or are these strings a hoax?

The US rep said he expects to have them by mid June or so. I'm looking forward to trying them out soon!

i wonder how these Max power would compare to the Pro Line Evolution...they seem like they would have similar properties...just put some evolution in my racquet today...

Kind of weird that both reviewers gave it a pretty low rating for comfort, but then used the comment section to specifically mention it was quite comfortable

Let us know how u like it. If they put a string out with ProLine II like qualities and improved tension maitenance I'm going to be happy!

I started stringing them up in my prestige pro's, at my usual tension of 51 lbs.



The feel of the string is quite harsh and more difficult to string then my normal strings of choice: RPM Blast and Solinco Tour bite.

Look forward to seeing how it plays! If it's that difficult to string, maybe it'll feel similar to alu?

More difficult to string than tour bite? That had to be the worst string I've strung...

My few cents about the: Max Power version

Tennis experience/background:i've been playing tennis for about 12 years now, with a break of 10 years in between. Recently i started again
Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley): Agressive all court game.

Current racquet/string: I currently use 3 ig prestige pro's with rpm blast strung at 51 lbs
Tension used for playtest: 51 lbs

Power of test string: Compared to RPM blast this is a powerfull string, about the same level as PL2, it has loads of penetrating power which is good for my game.
Feel:This string felt great, im a fan of stiffer poly strings.This one is very crisp from the start and has loads of pop.
Spin: Compared to RPM this doesnt have a much spin, but plenty for a round poly.
Comfort:This string is stiff but i didnt notice any discomfort untill the 4-5 hour mark. Probably because i started to hit the ball harder and harder.
Durability: 5 hours and still going strong.
Playability Duration: The first 3 hours the string played really good there wasnt much tension loss, after the 3 hours i felt some tension loss, which is normal for poly's. Unlike RPM blast this string keeps its characteristics and doesnt go mushy when loosing tension, it remains crisp and precise.
Control:For a powerfull poly the control is excellent, every shot went where i wanted, i really like hitting dropshots with this string.

Verdict: A lot of strings have been compared to Luxilon ALU Power(most of them because they are also silver, the playablity didnt even come near it)
However in my opinion this string comes as close as it gets.
It may have a little less spin but it wins in the control and tension maintenance department.
Kirschbaum might have struck gold with this string, this might be the next string of choice for me.

Im entering a tournament this week, lets see how the string holds up .

I have a few samples coming. I'll write some reviews once I play with them. Kirschbaum polys have a unique feel to me which I am a big fan of, so I'm excited to play these new strings.

Does anyone know when TW will be stocking this? Or what the MSRP is?

I used max power with an ezone ai 100. Felt good. Wonder how it woyld feel in a,aeropro. Strung at 47,in,the ezone

Question I have is that Are these strings much improved versions of Proline 2 which was their best string from my experience. Proline 2 and Proline X were their best strings from playability stand point.

If these are improved versions then how are these strings better than Proline 2 ?

Okay folks, so I finally got my hands on two sets of Max Power and I tested them in both my stock IG Prestige Pro as well as my customized Pro Staff 95.

A little bit about me: I am an all court player (right handed, two handed backhand, eastern forehand) who loves finishing points up at net. I am quite short (170cm) so I usually use spin serves, especially a nasty kicker. I vary the spin I use on groundstrokes, sometimes playing loopy or angled shots and other times hitting penetrating flat shots. Interestingly enough, my game changes with the racquets I use. With the Prestige all my shots are very solid, precise and consistent though my two handed backhand is my best shot, especially when I go down the line. With the Wilson my forehand becomes my biggest weapon and my slice backhand becomes nasty (both due to added court penetration), though I lose a bit on my 2HBH and some spin on serve. My level would be around NTRP 5.0 I guess, though that is difficult to gauge, since I do not live in the States. But now to the playtest:

Groundstrokes:

Wow, it's been a while since I've last played full poly but I certainly could get used to this. I had my worries when stringing this up as it felt relatively stiff, but it didn't get uncomfortable in the least.

Now, this is a round poly so you won't be getting obscene amounts of spin like with some shaped polys, but the spin is really good for a round poly. Furthermore, the predictability of the string really allows you to amp up the swingspeed, which gives you great access to spin and a high level of control over the amount of spin you play.

Power... What can I say, RJ-L was right. This string packs a good punch but without being uncontrollable. In fact, it has a better sensation of control than many control oriented strings, it's insane really. I was immediately reminded of when I played Head Sonic Pro Edge in a full bed, only that this string is perhaps even more impressive. The only thing that might be difficult is extreme angles or really loopy shots, but given the ability to hit penetrating shots into the corners with ease, this isn't too much of a drawback for me.

In conclusion, this string has a jaw-dropping combination of controllable power and spin.

Volleys:

Up at net there is more of the same to be found. Punching the volley for a putaway is easy and there is ample touch for a nice dropper. The response was really crisp and I felt very connected to the ball. Low volleys could be challenging at times due to the added pop, but if you got the technique right, results swiftly followed. Hitting the ball in the sweetspot with the Prestige became addicting. The response at contact was just... Mmmmmmmmm...

Score: 9.5/10


Serves:

Is there anything this string cannot do? Flat serves are great thanks to the controllable power, which allows accurate nuking; however, the real strength for me was in the spin serves surprisingly enough. I could really shape my serve and decide exactly what I want to do with it. I often surprised my opponents by switching up between kickers, slice, top slice and topspin serves and all of them were very precise. On a few occasions my kicker jumped so violently to the right that my opponent just swung at nothing. I am really impressed...

Final verdict:



Seriously, what more can I say... This is a truly impressive string by Kirschbaum. I have been using it for roughly 10 hours in both racquets and still no signs of a significant drop in playability for me. Currently the price for a reel seems to be set at 130€ (if the pre-release prices can be believed), which is a lot for me... But I might bite and make this my string of choice for years to come... Kudos to Kirschbaum, this is a bombshell!

Final Verdict: 9.5/10
