A friend uses this setup. He likes it, but I don't think your coach is correct.

I'm a little doubtful also, but I'm gonna give it a try next time I string and see how it works. He knows my game pretty well and normally gives me good advice, so I'll try it.

You are going to get less spin, power and feel with gut in the crosses instead of in the mains. But gut in the crosses is going to last longer before the poly or the gut breaks. :)

Did you buy multiple sets off the bay or direct? Have only see n single sets on the bay.

direct, yes.

last go round took 3 or more weeks to get it.

honestly, the guy in california is much easier to deal with and his gut is very similar
if not the same (i've bought three different "indian" bay guts and they all look alike).
shipping is also very quick (in the US, at least).

i've also strung a few sets of the stuff (naturalgutwholesale) all in hybrids (as half sets) and no problems yet,
either stringing, playing or breaking in the bag. knock on wood?

Thanks going to check out. Yes my set took awhile also. I found it fine for use in mains but had a horrible time doing crosses. Does not matter anymore because full gut was too powerful for me. At $18 a set they may price themselves out of the market.

Could you use PayPal buying direct?

Global Gut at $18?! No way man.

So, I've been using Global Gut 16 for the last few months. I used to use Pacific Classic 16 but they were unavailable at a time (I think it was back in January or something). So I decided to try some Global Gut because it seemed like a bargain. I've used these econo-gut before, Gaucho, Mamba, Global, I've tried them all.

I have to say that the latest batches of Global have been fantastic. At a fraction of the price of my default gut, Pacific Classic, I really can't complain. Their durability have been the best among all of the econo-guts I've tried. It's a hit or miss, but some of them had a ridiculously thick coating on them. Again it's hit or miss with the coating, some packs will have time, and some will be bone dry.

HOWEVER, at $18/pack, they may have lost their appeal. Because stringing these econo-gut, Global Gut included, it's still a nerve-wrecking experience. While their durability has improved and is among the best of the econo-guts, they are still not as good as the name brands. Lastly, the gauge inconsistency is still unsettling.

I ordered these when they still had the "Make best offer" option available, and I was able to get 3 orders of $11/pack x 4 = $44.

But at $18/pack and I still have to live with all of their flaws? No way man. And that's why I think they've priced themselves out of the market.

I hybrid my racquets, and I would have no issues playing with Klip Legend. I'll pay $4 more per racquet to get some guarantees.

What's a better value, Global at $18 or Titan at $19.99? Include the convenience and security of ordering Titan from TW.

Never tried Titan, but I've read the comments and it seems like it's half of what the lowest econo-guts has to offer.

Between the two, Global all the way.

I would not have thought that.

Thanks SCSL

Global Gut is really the best econo-gut I've tried, by a pretty good margin too. However, their recent price hike is getting closer and closer to quality brand-name offering. There's just not enough price advantage for me to have to put up with all the short-comings of econo-guts.

I've been using global gut and wilson nat gut.
One time I bought 3 of Titan gut 16g.
Two of them snapped while I was stringing for 55lbs.
I complained to TW for bad QC. TW agreed with me on Titan gut.
Global gut is much better.

Currently playing GG. Although it appears the same as the stuff from California (natgutwholesale) my head tells me the Cali stuff feels better.

Ill go back to it next go round and see.....

GG doesn't seem to snap back as well as the California stuff.....

Since they both appear the same I'm still unsure but I seem to do more straightening with the GG even earlier in the life of the string job than I have with the Cailfornia cheap gut.

Two cents.

I'll respond more as I continue to use them both.

I have started using GG from India about a month ago.

On my first string job, I had GG (16g) main 48lb and Genesis Black Magic (17g) cross 44lb. The GG snapped back very nicely. Felt really awesome for first 8 hours or so. BTW, I must have about at least 14 hours and have not broken the GG yet.

Second string job, GG main 50lb and Gosen Polyon (17g) cross 45lb, the GG are not snapping back much at all and I find myself straightening GG. This string job is like a trampoline, probably due to Polyon. It feels tight yet the balls are going long with not much control. I'm going to cut the Polyon and put Black Magic back in.

So, the snap back is, I think, also dependent on your cross and tension too and how smooth it is.

What cross string are you using? What tension?

What do you guys find to be a good poly for cross?

I like my first string job with the Genesis Black Magic cross, but like most poly, they die way before the gut. Of course I can cut out just the poly cross and restring, but that is shady string job practice. I actually tried it and it played fine, but doesn't feel nice like a real fresh gut/poly string job.

I just tried to string some of the cheap gut out of Florida. I was using it in a hybrid as a cross with poly mains (because the client prefers it that way, no need to discuss the mains v crosses debate here).

It's listed as 15g black natural gut on the B A Y.

First off, it feels much softer than GG or the Cali stuff (natural).
No gumminess or coated feeling, but more like a candle wick.

Well, it snapped on the second cross. I just pulled it through and tried to salvage the string and it snapped again, same place. It also stretched like crazy before snapping, never achieved lock out. As I was tensioning I could tell it was pulling way too far, but ........

I grabbed a set GG 16 natural and the racket(s) strung up fine.

Just an FYI. I've yet to snap the GG or Cali gut while stringing or just while it sits in the bag. Yet, that is.

From outward appearance they all look about the same. I also have some of the Cali gut in black so will try that soon to see if the color seems to be an issue in the econo gut game of roulette.

Global gut seems to be hit and miss which makes sense. Poor quality control of a natural product. I have used GG for a few years purchasing from various sources. Overall usage with good results but a couple of times, quality has been a problem. Also depends on what tension you use. Over 60 lbs is asking for trouble. Bought some from a guy on CL in Los Angeles for $10/set. My recent sets seem pretty good 16g, fairly uniform.

i actually find cheaper (poorly waxed or insulated) guts feel much better than the Babolat 16g heavily coated natural guts.....

now...quality control is an issue..i know. but cheap guts feel fine, if not better.

I agree that the feel is good the the QC is just awful and guage effects playability. No matter what guage you order you are only going to get that guage in about 10% of the set. The rest of the set is all over the place.

How did you get the direct contact number or email for Global gut?
I'd like to buy a bunch of it and try.

I used the California cheap gut last May. Out of 5 packs I only had luck getting 2 half sets into my racquets. ( one set broke after about 5 hits when I was just warming up to play) The gut kept breaking on the stringer. I was there watching the whole stringing session. I had a Master Racquet Technician doing the stringing. He said the gut strings either were old or just very, very brittle. I did not open one pack of the Cali gut. I sent all the gut strings back with an explanation letter explaining how the racquets were being strung ( all in the mid 50's). All I received as a refund was for the one pack that was not opened. No "sorry for the problem" letter or note. I will not use the Cali gut strings again.
All in all I just have not had any luck with the cheaper gut. I really wish I did. Just about all my racquets are either full gut beds or a gut hybrid.
The only cheaper gut I have not tried is the Titan gut strings TW has available. For the price difference between Titan and another bigger name gut manufacturer is not that big of a difference. So I just spend the extra to get some gut that seems to not break when it is strung up or shortly after you start hitting with it.

Just wanted to say that I strung global gut up at 59 mains with 57 poly crosses without a problem. Went out and played with it for 4 hours today with no notching and it feels pretty darn amazing. I've tried other guts before such as wilson, VS bab gut, volkl v-icon, and although global is not as nice, it still provides similar performance being only 10~14 a set. I don't find myself leaving it anytime soon since it is very cheap and cost-effective. Might even try stringing it in the 60's next.

You should just keep quiet, cuz now the price for Global Gut is going to go up which it had already since I bought a load of it last year for dirt cheap. The best deal of the century ever, well not anymore.

Whatever you do, don't buy titan.

Generally, unlike polys, you really do get what you pay for when it comes to natural gut.

This, bought a set from TW. It snapped on my machine, called for a replacement, they refused with good intentions and suggested that I use the store credit for something else, or just take the refund.

They were like: "we really don't want to sent you a replacement for Titan because it'll just snap again..."

GG yey, CG Meh..

tried GG last year when the prices were still good, and it played great on a gut/poly hybrid. i did use silicone spray a few hrs before each play. so lasted me a good 15-20hrs (and i'm a string breaker). did hybrid again on the second half set.

then i tried cali gut.
snapped on my stringer at 58#. whaaat?!? i emailed them and he was very quick to reply, 10min, (maybe just right timing). he said to only string from 50-55#. then said "i will replace that set on your next order". huh? so, i paid for another set and he would send two sets. took 2 weeks due to backorder from his supplier. 'new method' better products. Meh.

finally got it and strung the gut mains at 48# and poly cross at 52#.
played it next day and very mushy/too soft/trampoliney. although most of my hits stayed in, i felt no control. i usually poly up my leaded Steam99 to 56/54. maybe i'll restring the hybrid to 51/55.

this whole 'econo' gut experiment is not very economical.
