What was the last movie you watched?

Citizenfour

Documentary about Edward Snowden's fateful few days. Dreadfully boring to watch as it takes place amost entirely in one hotel room where Ed is hiding out, lots of silence and apprehensive stares. As a documentary it fails as it gives no attention whatsoever to any viewpoint other than Snowden's, so it plays more like a propaganda film.

I saw that Sleep movie with Nicole Kidman yesterday. Either the make-up was really good, or she has really aged.

PS: I looked at some 2014 images of hers. She is 47. Who would have thought she would be so ugly now?

By far the sexiest film I've ever seen on Netflix, yowzayara! But it's also so much more than that, has it's quite touching moments and has some excellent commentary. It's based on a nonfiction book.

Look for it by its English title, 'Confessions of a Brazilian Call Girl'

Mr. Nobody (2009) - scifi movie interesting but also very long (at about 2.5 hours).

I must say, this movie sounds awful and I would never watch it in a million years BUT I'd like to point out that one of the actresses in it, Sarah Polley, is terrific.

She's acted in great films like Exotica, The Sweet Hereafter, My Life Without Me.

She's also a pretty good director and made the movies Away from Her and Take This Waltz.

Last Vegas (2013)- fun buddy movie. Morgan Freeman, RDN, Michael Douglas. Mary Steenbergen, Kevin Kline.
I believe it's a remake of The Hangover.

^ Away from Her was a wonderful movie.

Swept from the Sea - 1997. Interesting story based on a book, Amy Foster, written in 1901 about a shipwrecked traveler on the Cornish coast. Rachel Weisz, Kathy Bates, Ian McKellen.

Saw "St. Vincent" at the theater. Sad thing about the movie was that all the bad things that happened to the various characters were perfectly believable, but all the good things seemed contrived/far fetched.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

phase IV.....sci fi film from 1974. powers from space unite ants across the planet to achieve world domination. Two scientists hold up in the desert study ways to defeat the new threat. Very interesting movie. its very serious and very dark. If you like films like the Thing, Soylent Green, Kingdom of the spiders, andromina strain etc. you might want to give it a shot. I had not seen it since I was three or four years old. Its a very different and kind of trippy film. The plot sounds really crazy but the director actually pulls it off pretty well. Probably one of the best nature gone awry films i have seen. its very very dark and pretty deep for what it is.

I have been hunting down a bunch of old films from my childhood lately. this film was hard to find because i kept searching for titles with ants. i only could remember a few brief scenes from when i was a child. still need to get a copy of sands of the kalahari.

I went to Blue Lagoon too :) incredible place, the view at the top of the church was special aswell. Ara Batur is the Sigur Ros song that brings back memories for me, I'll check out Heimma though!

There are a few pictures on my instagram if you're interested.

I'll check it out when I get home from work, looking forward to it! Wish I was back there now, all the volcanoes are going off apparently. Sounds like a Walter Mitty moment :)

When I went the first time in 2005, Julliette Lewis was seated behind me(with her band The Licks)in an overnight flight:(, she didn't shut up the whole flight, bumped into and said hi to Bjork inside Nasa, saw the Northern Lights, and cost me an arm and a leg and bought a 66 North softshell jacket(love it and still rocking it) and of course, Blue Lagoon. So Reykjavik/Island is a very memorable place for me (just up there with Merseyside/Wirral shipride lol)

The Americanization of Emily (1964) - British war movie, set in 1964. Brit girl and American sailor fall in love, mock each others culture and personality, pretend to hate one another and finally fall into each others arms and make love. A lot of navy stuff, and anti-war sentiments. Enjoyed it.

James Garner, Julie Andrews, James Coburn.

Have you seen Evil Dead? It's scarier than Sinister. I was petrified when I saw it.

YES I saw it but it looks kind of fakish. so you are not as scared. but Sinister was just weird and realistic possibly and that is what makes it scary.
That is why Nightmare on Elmstreet when it first came out caused so many people to end up in emergency room. it caused people to NOt go to sleep and caused mental breakdown. this Sinister has similar effects on people

right saw that too. that was not scary to me. it was just sick gore movie. and I know if I encounter a psycho like that in Texas, I can just shoot him or have the sheriff shoot him and I don't have to fear him anymore. but with sinister, that thing can't be killed with a gun. and it is really scary, using your own kids to kill you, that is scary.

I will check out Sinister when I get the chance.

Harry Potter #3...my seven year old is reading the series and I won't let him see the movie until he reads the book. He just finished the 4th book so I guess the next movie I'll watch is Harry Potter 4.

Has anyone seen the BBC 8-part serial, The Honourable Woman ?

I am seeing it at present. It's based on the Palestinian/Israeli struggle. Those of you who liked House of Cards should like it.

The Babadook - Very good horror movie.

If you like it, I am in. We have very similar tastes. Thanks for this - I never heard of it.

Just saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It was ok. I got pretty bummed because the opening scene had some of the worst CGI I had ever seen in the past few years, plus the character development was not good. But I made it through the movie and thought it was interesting.

I'd give it a 6/10.
