Dude's, I've been burning the midnight oil working on some mods. Here's an interesting pic of one of my Tfights that Gads had modified by ****, turns out he had a half size pallet installed:

IMG_1650.JPG

It seems the stick was extended by using the ol' TW balsa wood technique, although I haven't really reversed engineered it yet.

Yoko's sex change is pretty much done. I put 15g's of silicone in the handle and 5 grams at 12, turns out there were only 3 up there.

Specs are, with OG: 345 g / 7 pts hl / 320 SW.

I've also setup a Prince Warrior 100 in a very similar way. Hitting some indoor claycourts tomorrow night. Will report back.

Sweet!

Leave it to Gadsby to go 1/2 size. A true indicator of the discerning and knowledgeable.

Tried to watch the Leo version on a plane once and couldn't get through it. And I'm a lover of the book/story, but couldn't buy into that particular glam and rap show they were selling.

Riiiight? I got a headache trying to watch the Leo one. Story goes that Lurhman thougt the screenplay up while listening to an audiobook version of TGG on a train. So yeah…… not my cup of tea. I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the Redford version either, but definitely more watchable if less imaginative.

Played with the 6.1 again and it's pure bliss. Wanted to maximize my court time so I stuck with it for the entire evening.

Again though, after an hour, fatigue kicks in. Now its probably something I can address with improved cardio, but as a soon to be father of 3 , I think getting something slightly lighter is more realistic.

I'm still fine tuning Yoko, but I started to think that the PS 97 is pretty much exactly what I'm trying to achieve plus that super open string pattern.

Klem, I think you tried it out no? So what's the verdict on that thing. On paper it's the 6.1 lite we've all been looking for.

I tried the Ps97 and just a heads up it can be an arm killer. Of the 5 guys in my shop that switched to it, only 1 was able to stay with it due to arm pain that came from using it.

Listen to this man. Best racquet I played with in years. I made the switch.

Thankfully, not available in my country, thus preventing me from going down that rabbit hole. But rest assured, in a couple of months the itch will probably take me to the classifieds to hunt one down.

Man, reading the last few pages of this thread makes me want to go buy a textreme tour 95. What other companies right now are.. still producing soft frames that can be bought at retail!?? I am trying to find a racquet for my mother who is a 4.0, and used to play with a POG midsized frame in her 20s... Last thing I want to do is set her up for a replacement elbow and shoulder in the next 10 years with an APD...
I'm thinking GPMP, but maybe she might want something just a tiny bit lighter... Possibly textreme tour 100, or maybe this year's Blades??
Need some help here from you knowledgeable 'holics....

Stay with Prince if you want to make life easy on your moms. You can actually still buy POG's, both OS and MP's as Prince has reissued them. But I suggest trying out some of the port racquets that are super soft on the arm.

The Tour 100's are quite nice, and the ESP versions could be interesting.

I haven't tried the textreme tour 100, but the outgoing Tour 100T may be a good option for her. It is wider than the textreme and the sweet spot may be closer to what she is accustomed to. Bonus that it's on sale for $119. I preferred the extra stiffness of the 100T over the regular Tour 100, and it can take weight well if she prefers a leather grip.

Just be sure to buy a couple extra headguards as they will probably be difficult to come by in the future.

The PS 97 is a fantastic frame off the ground. In stock form, it takes some getting used to on serve. The pattern is super-wide open, nothing like the 6.1 that tends to be more dense in the middle, this one is really open in the middle, therefore your normal strings and tension will feel off a bit, gotta go up by like 3lbs.

I'm still enjoying it, don't know what it is about the sweet spot but it's really compact, direct and focused, some would say this makes it feel small, but it's a strange brew for sure.

I took the red pill

.......... What if I'd been wrong this whole time? What if I couldn't see the forest for the trees? What if I'd been going at this wrong the whole time, what if there was no magic in nCoded High Modulus Graphite (unlike Basalt of course). What if the magic lied elsewhere?

Friends, I've realized something, in my quest to turn Yoko into a lighter 6.1, I've been blind to what actually makes the 6.1 work so well for me in the first place, the weight!

It's been there all along, right under my nose, I thought that by keeping the 6.1's stats, but lowering them slightly, especially weight, that I'd finally achieve peRFection.

Well, over the years I'd tried exactly that, with several frames, the latest being Yoko. And every time I kept being disappointed by the results. Every time I thought I got it right, out would come the 6.1 to prove me wrong.

And yet I didn't want to quit on Yoko, the feel is too good, the response so predictable and precise, the thin beam and flex addictive, I just needed to unlock her full potential, unleash her inner power somehow.

What I had done so far was tantamount to putting lipstick on a pig, it was cosmetic, superficial, conservative. If I wanted to change Yoko, I knew I had to give her what the 6.1 really brings to the table........ beef (weight). So I went about turning a lipsticked pig into a 355g bull, ready for the market.

Steroids are pretty much just synthetic testosterone, so, if I wanted to profoundly change Yoko, yes, make her more manly, then I knew I'd have to put her on a heavy cycle of steroids, and I did, and the results were................................................... AMAZING!

Recipe for a beefy, f@#k you powered (FYP) Tfight 315 ltd, with incredible feel and a huge and generous sweetspot:

1. Replace leather with good synthetic replacement grip of choice (optional)

2. Inject 15 grams of silicone in the handle (adjust if leather was left on)

3. Add 12 grams of lead at 3&9, using a double layer of 6 inch lead tape on each side.

4. Perform Santeria, sprinkle with basalt to taste.

5. Take to court and blast groundies!

I have to say the end results are amazing. The weight at 3&9 really opens up the string bed, and made a relatively small sweetspot seem very generous. It's also the closest I've ever gotten a frame to play like a 6.1. I guess that makes sense given Wilson's PWS.

The power level went up 2 to 3 notches, definitely in the 6.1's ball park, and the plow and stability are amazing, and even though I could control the power with a full bed of multi, a hybrid, or even a full bed of poly would probably play even better, taming the power and adding a bit of zip.

The feel of the frame becomes so much more pronounced with the added weight. It flexes beautifully around the throat and the cupping effect of the stringbed, or dwell time, was addictive. I hit a couple of droppers from the back of the court that were just magic.

During the session I picked up my 6.1 twice to compare, and both times I put it back down after only a couple of minutes. Lately the 6.1 had been pummeling every contender mercilessly, but this version of Yoko was the first to hold it's ground. It didn't necessarily out class it in terms of raw performance, but the plusher feel and flex make for a much more arm friendly ride.

I really urge any Yoko user to try this mod out. We have to keep in mind that the ltd. is essentially TF's pro stock hairpin, and at a starting SW of ~300, there's no getting around the fact that it needs lots of lead to really shine.

Here's the best part about lead at 3&9 versus lead at 12. I achieved pretty much the same balance, with the same amount of weight in the handle, with 12 grams at 3&9 versus a paltry 5 grams at 12.

Final specs, silicone, lead and og:

355 grams static / 6.5 pts hl / 325-330 SW.

especially happy about the excellent feel and ease on my arm and wrist (way better than the Dunlop, to my surprise- i think it's mostly because of the forgiveness and response from all the stringbed).

Serge,

Yes, very similar to my current setup. What I am going to do to my yoko, though, is go back to the beefed up SW with 5 grams at 12.

Im going to put 5 grams of silicone in the handle and 5 grams of lead at 12. I believe that will get me closer to the exact specs of the GPMP, which is 340. It will be close enough to where I can whip out the Yoko and use it without much of a change in feel.

I had been using Yoko at 350 with lead at 3 and 9. It's killer. Just not my optimal setup - I like em polarized.

Roz, great frame. Very very similar in spec to the GPMP. I remember really liking that one.

How much at 3&9?

Even 5 grams of lead at 12 will only give you a SW of ~315, far lower than the Prestige.

3&9 had always been a failure for me on several frames, and had never considered it for the 315 until I realized that the 315 has a paltry twistweight, meaning that it will lack stability and plow regardless of how much weight you add to 12. The only way to up the twistweight is to place weight at 3&9.

I'm telling you, just go for it. but you have to go relatively big, because the starting SW and TW are so low on the 315. The Prestige is stiffer and has a much higher SW and probably a pretty healthy TW, the CAP's alone guarantee that. The 315 is softer, and has an anemic Twistweight (lower than most sticks on the market), but is already quite polarized given it's starting weight and balance.

Also, the higher end of the hoop is pretty dead on the 315 IMO, and the SS is small and more pronounced toward the lower middle of the frame. The weight at 3&9 will really open up that SS.

I imagine that if you put a naked pro stock hairpin on an RDC that you'd not only get super low static weight, but also super low SW and TW. This makes sense, since it allows for the widest range possible of customization. The 315 is pretty much just that, a naked hair pin with some silicone already injected in the handle.

A pinch of Graphene, perhaps?

On the SW, are you guessing on that # or did you have it measured. Seems like adding that much lead would have it up higher than 325-330. No?

I have a graphene prestige pro on the way. I love everything about the graphene prestige mp except for much lower trajectory than I'm used to from my PD+. If i was still in college and training 5 days a week then I have no doubt that I could adjust to the MP, but I'm lucky to hit more than twice a week now. Hopefully, the prestige pro works out. Has anyone here hit with both?

Still want to try the gut/poly hybrid in the mp but I want to try the pro first.

I've been playing the Textreme 95, which is a heckova good racquet. Lower powered and I haven't found my serve speed with it, but I am consistent with it and that's more than half the battle.

My problem is - I ordered it a grip size smaller (3/8 ) than usual to see how I liked it, and I like it. Now I have about 15-18 racquets that I pick up and the grips feel too big... Three years ago I made the switch from 5/8 to 1/2, but only had about 6 racquets to get rid of.

The only 3/8 racquets I have are the Textreme and an old Spectrum Comp 90 I picked up at a thrift store last week for $5 that I haven't hit with yet....

Have you tried just going with a couple over grips instead of a grip? This can make larger grips feel doable/close enough to me. I use the Gamma Supreme OGs and they're actually weightier/thicker than most OGs so there's enough still substance there with two of them to where the handle doesn't feel naked, but at the same time it's thinner than standard grip.

Or Babolat Skin Feel grip is very thin.

I haven't gone with a couple overgrips. I have used Prince ResiThin grips, which are the same thickness as the Skin Feel. Wilson does have a new one - the FeatherThin that is thinner. I have put it on a PSC 6.1, so the weight coming off is a good thing. Other racquets may get a bit light. I know I can always tinker with lead on them, or I could just get rid of the stash of racquets and start some new 'holicing.

One bummer is that last year I sold a PT280 with a 3/8 grip because it felt small and I didn't feel like dealing with a pallet swap. I wouldn't mind that one back.

Juiced up Tfight - follow up

Second outing with the juiced up Tfight and it's still fantastic. The concentration of lead at 3&9 really opens up the sweet spot. After the session, I looked down at the frame and noticed that the fraying was exclusively concentrated at the dead center of the racket, usually it's about 2-3 inches up for me:

rI1axC4iklCZ7l2iRVMB1YmPBGL1CxkpopEPhq_8760=w155-h207-p-no

As you can see from the picture, it's practically impossible to miss the sweet spot. This fraying is only after 1.5 hours, and I was maybe 5 minutes away from breaking the string before we got bumped.

Still super, super happy. I guess I lucked out, or Gads did originally, but the super low SW of my Tecs allow me to but tons of weight at 3&9 and stay below the 330 SW threshold.

Even at over 350g's, it's swinging so nicely that I might set up the second one with a touch more weight and see how much I can get away with.

Again, the stand out attributes of this setup (12 g's a@ 3&9) are:

  • Torsional Stability - not a hint of twisting even against the hardest shots
  • Amazing Plow
  • Supreme directional control
  • Still very maneuverable
  • POWER - but very controlled

Dude that is awesome. And that's the non-lengthened version, I'm assuming? Looks like you have found it, if you're diming the center of the stringbed like that so consistently. Really glad it's working out.

Meanwhile, attn PP: shoot me an email if looking to add more Graphene. You've got first dibs, if interested, but no worries if not. I will always champion this stellar ball thumper, but like the Tecs, would rather this one go to someone who will use it more. My pro stocks are just too good so keeping my focus there. 3/8 grip, though.

Yeah, it's the non lengthened one. I set up the lengthened one the exact same way, and I actually liked it quite a bit, but the extra length does jam me, so I'm gonna have to remove the extra length.

I will say this though, the Head grip in 2.5 could be the GOAT grip.

Oh awesome, thank you sir. Im playing 1/4s and probably would never go through the work required to change pallets, so feel free to open up shop to the public.

I never tried the Prestige Pro but I have the Graphene Prestige MP in both 18x20 and 16x19 string patterns. As you would expect the 16x19 definitely has a higher trajectory with the same string setup (I used the Head Gravity hybrid for comparison, both at 21.5/20.5kg) – it's not Pure Drive territory, though.

Gut/poly works very, very well in the 18x20 and "opens up" the trajectory nicely (so to speak). Haven't got around to trying this in the 16x19 yet, so I can't give you a comparison there.
