...max is 10HL for 320! Dagnabbit, with all the customization there are more options available then the online website filters?

320/12HL is quite possibly my dream weight/balance. Damn, Damn, triple damn. I selected 10HL. For the 330 I went with 12HL, except I've ended up liking the 320 a teensyweensyiddybittybit better.

how????? HOW?????? How did you score a 320/12HL frame?

Well, I am happy about these specs, so I could still remove some weight from the grip if needed.
I actually bought it used, super condition. Was lucky and surprised now that I see that this is not an option on the website.

If you plan on removing any weight from the grip let's talk. I've got a 320/10HL I'd be happy to swap with your 320/12! Don't you dare touch that grip. Don't think about it. While you're at it, definitely stop making me think about it - that would be much appreciated.

Lucky *^^#(!!!! Congratulations. I'm super jealous.

yeah a lot of people judge flex by how it flexes in the head. The tc95 ra63 is designed to flex in the shaft... which suits my taste. Its dwell time is great, especially on heavier shots like the return... the only modern frame with more dwell time that ive used recently in serious match play is the x feel pro 95... which is lower powered than many mids. On the tc95 i can very much feel the flex in the throat, but not too much.

i do use a very minimal #33 rubber band as the tc95 is quite muted... that helps the feedback.
Great info. I always learn a lot from your posts. Slightly off topic but I have a couple of X Feel Pro 95 that I am tinkering with at the moment. Loving the flex and dwell time, but not the very low low power. Full poly is definitely not the way to go, in my humble opinion. To give you an idea, I played with APD and PDs all through college and H.S and really love all that free power. Now that I'm somewhat older and trying out different sticks, what would you recommend in the X Feel Pro 95 (string & tension). Thanks.

oh thanks... really it is the lowest powered 95 out there... nothing really changes that but my magnetic pro 95 (fischers earlier version of the xpf95) has toughgut mains and kirschbaum super smash orange on as a cross... that will amp up the power. for all poly try weiscannon scorpion or hyper g both have more power for a poly.

I'm glad that you learn something from my posts... I feel like I repeat myself. I just realized that at age 45 I wasn't going to be able to keep playing with the x feel Pro 95 and needed to switch to something that had extra power on tap because it was simply inevitable. Luckily the tc95 worked out for me it's a very different frame but it ticks off the same boxes... in fact my serving and gameplay overall has improved. my opponents are actually having a bit of trouble figuring out a clear strategy against me now. sometimes in doubles i go back to the xpf95 for the absolute precision but it doesnt serve as well as my for fun hitting ps85... the tc95 does... maybe even better.

there simply aren't a lot of options for people who demand classic levels of comfort and flex with modern spin... the xpf was kinda my transition frame... recovering parts of my old mid style game while amping up my modern spin game. tc95 is home though, im a year into my 7-10 year plan.... maybe with a multi i can go longer?

That's at standard length right? Any idea for 27.5"? I could swear my TC 95 63RA felt like it was 350+ with a leather grip, overgrip, dampener strung with poly.

Yes, standard length. Yours can be SW350. Every quarter inch will add about 9 SW points. I recently cut my extended iPrestige by 17mm and SW dropped from 362 to 332.

Change the frame, full poly in 40s (something springy), gut poly...those Fischers are at the opposite side of racquet spectrum to what you're used to. Free power is kind of utopia in my humble opinion.

Completely understand where you are coming from. I'm 34 and feel that I'm a little late to the trying-new-sticks-for-fun game. By now, I know my preferred specs for the racquets, only a matter of different feel for different sticks out there. Have never had elbow/shoulder/wrist pains and my coaches always said I had excellent strokes and technique even when I was in high school. Was just wanting to mix it up a little hence I got those two sticks (thanks again to @McLovin who I bought them from). My Babs are all weighted up to 340g-345g strung so static weight was never an issue, just the dramatic low power of these X Feel Pro threw me off a bit. I actually have strung up one with Hyper-G and will take it out for a spin tonight. The other one I'll do a gut/poly hybrid and I know that will make the stick alive. I really do like these sticks, just need to get used to different feel from the babs, like @joohan correctly pointed out.

Okay. I never thought about this, it's idiotic on my part not to have done so. Sometimes you just need someone at the right moment to come along and tell you an obvious and perfectly logical thing to have the old neurons make a connection. I'm coming off a PS85 background, when I ordered my first set of Angells I went for 330 - excepting I also went for 27.5" extended lengths. The things felt a bit cumbersome and I never really thought about why. I've ended up enjoying the 320's, equally flummoxed as to why. Until this post that is. My 320's are 27.25". I think 320 with 27.25" extended length ends up being in my wheelhouse for SW.

Thanks!

yeah ive delayed stringing up my new tc95, i just like having it near... my precious.

you are quite the friend to gift a frame!

Ha Ha. Actually while I'm a racket-fiend I really hate being unclear about what I'm trying to achieve. Unless I've strongly bonded with a frame [to date the only one has ever been the PS85], when I move to a new frame I usually give away my old one. There's every possibility I'll donate equipment when I know it'll be used. Better than sitting in my home/bag/office gathering dust. I suppose I also happen to spend a bit of time in spots where availability and price is an issue, for example in Philippines/Thailand/Bali the equipment is perhaps double or triple the rates of TW, so I feel rather poorly about promising juniors and kids that don't have the access to equipment that I do.

Besides, rackets aren't really the most expensive part of tennis. It's the damn time it takes to get decent at it. I don't want to think about how much trying to learn this is in terms of opportunity-cost. The only way I could pick up tennis at the relatively ripe age of 38 was to focus quite completely on it the past 3 years in hopes of covering ground with all you guys that began early.

Vol.2: TC97 18x20 vs. The Wind (a storm named Doris is making its way from northern U.K. down to London)

Much, much better this time. Maybe I'm getting used to playing in the wind, too, but I've swapped Angell synthetic replacement grip for a brand new standard (tan, fragrant, beautiful, gorgeous...) Fairway. It looks too beautiful to just cover it with an OG so I gave it a go just like that. Wow. Smaller grip and, most importantly, clean definition of bevels made a world of difference. Plus the feel is simply sublime. No OG on this beauty anymore...

Side note: in just 25 minutes, my 320g/310mm 18x20 Angell TC97 strung with Halo 2, in cooperation with Balmforth Fairway, converted another tennis player to this Angellic religion. Not bad for a hit on a windy day...

It is actually simple to adjust yourself, as the recent pictures show. You will just need to open the pallets and move weight around, taking 10 grams of and repositioning the rest. Using bluetack in the handle is also an option, or taking 20grams out and putting 10g of lead tape over the pallets.

Post customization on customized angells are really another way of never stoping trying new racquets :)

After diddling about with Yonex and Head frames for the past couple of years, I'm now looking to string up my old 16x19 TC95 which i purchased more than 4 years ago.
Any string setups to recommend?

I have no arm problems and I'm thinking of either ZX mains / Lux 4G crosses or 4G mains / Biphase crosses.
I strung my previous sticks with a full bed of Cyclone 17.

Do you think full 4G would be feel too plastic and stiff? Was hoping for something with more pocketing.

Heard many good things about RS Lyon.. would 1.20mm be too thin for such an open pattern on the TC95?

Which is probably the most famous racquet Paul has designed in the past (before the Angells)?
The original Dunlop 200g Steffi and John played with, is that right?

You can try Isospeed Cream.
1. Lot of pocketing
2. Lot of spin for a round profile string (slick!)
3. Stays elastic for a long time (different formula than usual strings, with lower polyester content)
4. Excellent tension maintenance for a soft poly (because it's manufactured as prestretched)

This! Weiss Cannon Silverstring plays very nice in my TC95 as well. WS SS is available into 1.20mm and 1.25mm gauge.

Haha - if I had a nickel for everytime someone said that. My trusty Babs have held their own for well over a decade, doubt that will change anytime soon ;) - at this point, I'm more worried for the 'real' racquets being benched. Tried Hyper G at 45lbs last night but couldn't gel - will try gut/poly hybrid tonight.

You recommend any livelier string to wake up the XFP 95?

Uhm...

Liveliest poly I can think of would be Polystar Energy. Trampoline that one.

Otherwise... gut/poly it is. Head Lynx crosses might work.

Really though... I think you went too extreme on the racquet spectrum ;)

lol, beginning to agree there. I knew what I was getting into though so its all on me. If gut/poly doesn't work for me I'll probably just switch to a different frame altogether. Birthday coming up and I have been dropping hints to the wife for Angell TC 100 - hit with it a month back and really loved how heavy I could play from the baseline and not be pushed around in a slugfest. Solid frame too.

Well...I have 1.20 RS Lyon in my 18x20 Dunlop Biomimetic 300Tour (one of the lowest powered frames TW has ever reviewed) at 55/52 and I can't quite imagine putting even to my 16x20 Tour G 330.

On the other hand, it would be nice if you'd play test this set up for us here.)

I usually put 24 kg on crosses on 16x19 setups. If I was doing the full bed, I would currently do 24/24 kg, or 23/24 kg, depending on a setup. I lately strung either equal or crosses higher.
When tension is at 25 kg this string becomes lower powered. I've done 25/24 kg once and it took like 8-10 hours of hitting for the setup to recover the power I wanted, since tension drops slowly.
However I started to string it in a hybrid, with Yonex PTP on mains. I like YPTP very much except it stiffens up quick. In this hybrid I get the cross over between the two, more lasting liveliness of Cream with strong control aspect of YPTP.
The other hybrid I've done with Cream (on Radicals 18x20 only) is with a local brand octagonal shaped soft type string (Royal Holux). Excellent string, but only available locally in Croatia I'm afraid. I've used 22/22 kg and control was still great. Cream performs well at 22-24 kg range.
I plan to do hybrids with Cream on crosses with some other poly strings on mains too in the future.

I considered getting a PS97s myself, but gave up that idea. Because PS95s 2015 is serving me well for the purpose. Surprised me how its predictability is not bad at all, better than I would expect. Took some customization and dialing in though, but now it's getting hard for me to leave it from my hands...

But I'll be getting Angell neverhteless. Angell, PS95s, Ti/i Radicals, PK Destiny and KI 10 in the wardrobe...enough for me :) lol

Hi guys,

I have recently bought a TC95 70RA from Subaruvich (310g/310mm). Great racket but on the stiff side for me. Now I've read (and confirmed by Paul) that 63RA version has a higher SW. My question is, if I would choose a lighter 63RA version (300g) would the SW go down as well?

Thanks!

Unsubstantially so if at all.

Ask Paul for a lower swingweight sample.

Thing is that the only difference between all weight/balance options is the amount and location of the weight in the handle. All else is equal. So, unsubstantially so if at all.

What is it about stringing the crosses tighter that you like?

How many hours do you get from Cream before you restring?

Is it going dead or are you playing until breakage?

Thanks again.

You're welcome.

Crosses tighter lowers the launch angle - it has some meaning with open pattern racquets, but it's personal. But it also decreases the spin generation some.
Recently I find stringing at even tension is usually ok. On certain hybrids stringing crosses tighter brings the best results for me. Especially if tension drops significantly on cross strings, so it's a compensation too until string bed settles.

I'm the one who will cut the strings prior to breaking them - usually to try a different string bed. I hit with a full bed of Cream at 25/24 kg for at least 20 hours and they were as elastic as they were from the start, only softer a bit since tension dropped some. Then I cut it off because I wanted to try a hybrid string bed. It's one very comfortable string, especially at 24 kg and lower.
TW guys also reported in their review string stayed elastic to the end, and that it was long lasting.

How long it exactly lasts I wouldn't know, I'm not a string breaker. But I'd say this string will easily pay off its higher cost by its longevity. My assesment is that it will more likely break before going dead, meaning it might last pretty long on non string breakers.

Unfortunately, my custom tc 97 18x20 320 gr/ 7pth grip B, l 2, is not working for me. I've tried 3 different strings, isospeed control 16, WC silvestring and Luxilon Nat gut (current on the racquet) but i've got the same problem, specially with my forehand. I hit very flat and hard with a continental grip and i could not get a consistency on the ball trajectory. Some low, some high but i could not get a consistency. Going back to my c10 pro and everything is back, consistency and confidence. It is a great racquet but i'm not somebody that will spend 6 month to adjust while having the c10 pro still performing wonderfully so my Angell is going into sale.
Maybe after the summer, once the tournaments have ended, i may try the tc 95 based on the reviews on this forums.

@joohan do you have experience with 16x19 angells as well? I usually play with 18x20 patterns. Dr 98 is an exception to that rule. I've heard angells have quite open patterns. Would you say dr 98 was more similar to your 18x20's or 16x19 should be the closest pick?

Also can someone tell me whats the balance for 320g/310 balance angell but strung + overgrip (about 5g i guess) . I suspect the overall weight to be 340-350g. How much balance changes?

I am currently adding weight to my blade to make it more HL. After your post about SW/balance/static weight ratio and how it is achieved (amount and location of the weight in the handle) im pretty sure blades have exacly the same "racquet construction theory-make it as stable as possible and add weight to the handle till you are happy". Ofc headsize and stiffness will be still different but overall the swing should feel pretty much similar. I dont want to copy angell racquet. I want to check what are my preferred specs. Blades should be perfect comparison. Hell now I even suspect angells before the customization are almost the same as blades stock. (specs-wise)

My goal is to check what specs suits me more if I have racquet with higher SW. My current blade strung is 332 g with OG-33 cm balance (added 9g). I will keep experimenting till I start to feel more natural whip because atm I have to force it too much and it takes too much time.

The TC97 does not require that much of adjustment time. That setup looks like it's not for you. Did you play around with the tension as well, or just the strings?

Sounds like you and the C10 are a good match already. Why the interest in switching it up? C10's are great sticks!

I don't, unfortunately. All my Angells are 18x20.
