BO5 status of the Slam should be preserved.

OK, if everyone is so gung-ho to continue the BO5, should the women also be playing BO5? If not, why? Preserving tradition is hardly an argument by itself. Presumably, what's good for the gander is also good for the goose.

I think Andy also said this 2 years ago after Djokovic first said it. The comments didn't get much attention then for some reason. I still like BO5 in Slams though.

He thinks people won't sit down and actually watch a 4-5 hour match. That they'll get up and leave and come back. And to that I say...so what?

I do agree however that people often confuse long matches for great matches. That it can be 3 hours of mediocre tennis but the 5th set is dramatic so it gets called an epic.

These guys know how to get their names in the papers.
This is just their PR guys telling them to say something 'controversial.'

Why not bo3 for the first few rounds since there will be a lot of uninteresting matchups, then bo5 for the second week when the matchups become interesting. That means less fatigue for the b05 matches too, which could equalize things for younger players and produce higher quality tennis overall.

Edit: switching to 16 seeds along with bo3 in the early rounds would make for better upset potential, meaning less predictable slams. If different players started going deep, they might gain confidence for the rest of the year, making tennis deeper. The olympics have already set a precedent for having bo3 and bo5 in the same tournament.

This is the least worst of the bad options. With the same rules applying for both the men's and women's games.
