‘Someone leaked Novak Djokovic WhatsApp conversations,’ says Craig Tiley

Craig Tiley has defended Novak Djokovic over his reported Australian Open ‘demands,’ insisting they were misreported from a leaked WhatsApp conversation.

Djokovic came in for furious criticism before the tournament, particularly from sections of the Australian media, after Spanish newspaper Marca claimed he had written a letter to Tennis Australia Chief ‘demanding’ better conditions for players in hard quarantine.

Tiley, though, says there was actually no letter at all, never mind demands, and it was simply an ‘open dialogue’ that became misrepresented in the press.
“Behind the scenes, he sent me a WhatsApp message when they were in Adelaide doing their quarantine program,” Tiley told 3AW Sportsday.

“He had a bunch of suggestions to try and help the 72 athletes who were in the isolated quarantine here.

“half were not practical and wouldn’t be allowed and the other half were possible.

“Then it turned out someone on his own team or someone in the ATP leaked that and then it looked like he sent a list of demands which was probably an unfair criticism of him because we were having an open dialogue.”
“Behind the scenes my conversations with him have always been very good.
“I must admit this year I found him the best he’s ever been even though it was a stressful time and he was taking a lot of knocks from people.
“I think in many ways he just tries to help others and sometimes just doesn’t land on the timing of when to do that. At the end of the day he’s a remarkable athlete.”

Yet another disinformation form the Steele dossier!

Okay so why is this coming out now? Tiley first let’s him take all the flak for it and then after it has all calmed down he comes out and puts things straight, when nobody even cares about the issue anymore.
Possibly a slow day in aussie media

It was a way he could distract attention from himself during the time the Covid case came up at the quarantine hotel

US media is turning into tabloid rags.

This is certainly nothing new of course.
Yellow Journalism has spread disinformation since the 1890's.

Yellow Journalism was a term used to describe a particular style of reckless and provocative newspaper reporting that became prominent in the late 1800s. A famous circulation war between two New York City newspapers prompted each paper to print increasingly sensationalistic headlines designed to lure readers.

How can WhatsApp conversations be leaked? I’m wondering.

Djoker and Tilley are not having private conversations. There will be others on the cc list. Even if it was just the two, one of the two will always leak by forwarding the messages.

There is no way Tiley is working alone. He is a bureaucrat and will share conversations with underlings.

Be careful what you choose to send through WhatsApp.

Something you should always remember when using a social network or any other sort of communication tool is to be careful about what you share with other people.

The reason for this is that once you do share content with others, you are often no longer in control of it. This holds true for WhatsApp.

WhatsApp itself does not store any content that you share over it. However, the people whom you send that content to can store it, and even share it with their contacts. So before you send a text message, picture, video, audio message, or current location indicator to someone, ask yourself if you would be okay with potentially letting other people whom that person knows see it.

Well, there is 50% chance it’s this guy ;)
Novak said he wasn't, and said it was someone else (he don't know who). If you think he is lying, think again, because true can be found easily (message is there and the one that published this external discussion can always publish the "rat") so why should he risk to get catch in lie...

That's really malicious of the person/organisation who did it.
What's to wonder here? You have whole Players Council there to work against fellow colleagues... There are rats everywhere...

And Novak won in whole that circumstances... Will make thread on this today...

... He practically forwarded list that many knew of, and had in their phones...
How delusional you can be in your hate, I wonder...

So, you took my comment about what is the nature of their correspondence, to make an absolutely irrelevant speculation of who had what where, and finished it off by mumbling something about hate?

How simple are you, really?

According to the tabloid, Djoker is complaining about the hard quarantine conditions of other players. Isn't that admirable?

If this was a private, behind the scenes, conversation between Djokovic and Tiley why did the PM of Victoria think it necessary to publicly announce that the answer to Djokovic's demands was 'no.?

The original conversation involved two persons. One of them at least is the leaker. Possibly both ;)

If you send a message to Tiley, you must assume he is sharing it with his underlings. Tiley the bureaucrat is incapable of working alone... Likewise Djoker has his team involved. There are no private conversations here during a crisis with 72 players suffering under hard quarantine.

Why Djokovic remains surrounded by controversies all the time? Yes he is facing hostile media and Fedal fans are united against him. But still he himself is responsible for many controversies. He should act smart, lie down and focus on winning Slams. Never put oil in fire..

Tiley said that either Djokovic's team or the ATP leaked it, whether this is true is not is not something we can ascertain.

Yeah, I can't really get behind a personal WhatsApp chat being "leaked" without the original parties being involved, so it is strange to have that suggested, and, frankly, why would Tiley make it about a "leak", when the demands were supposedly about other players as well (so they know it too). Who were they "hiding" from in the first place? BTW, considering the controversial info about how this info became available, I think it is safe to say that either before when the original news came out, or now, someone is playing to do damage control, which is also odd, if everything is considered "normal".

This is a storm in a teacup, and one where Djokovic is being presented in a very positive light by Craig Tiley.

Are you stupid or what? Novak sent message after consultations with many players... Many players had that list in their phones and any of them could leak the list...
How hard is to understand such a simple thing?

Or a tempest in a teapot...

The hapless Tiley was whining about being "abused" by players.
So much so that he had to shift his family to his second mansion -- to protect them from his irritable self.
Now it is claimed that Tiley is presenting the players in a positive light.

Which is it?!

The wise thing is to consider that anything you say to anyone may be repeated, both here and in private. So eventually anything you say or do can come back to haunt you.

Yes, it is "idiotic" to discuss the nature of the correspondence between two individuals. On topic, and without any other considerations.

Where is @OhYes to comment on the vile nature of the discussion?

So basically it is impossible for powerful men like Djoker and Tilley to have a "private" electronic conversation as Mr  is claiming.

Quoting me without an explanation is like confirming that you read something based on which you made a wrong conclusion.

Where in what I have written is it showing a claim that "powerful men cannot have a private conversation". If anything, the fact that I said that from the wording it looks like that it was a private conversation between the two is the opposite of what you say that you understood.

Dr. Raul, if the report is accurate it seems he’s presenting Djoker in a positive light not players generally so I don’t see the apparent inconsistency you do. And he may also simply be trying to smooth ruffled feathers.

I'm not saying he is making such claims. But if you want something to say private, don't write it where more than one person can read it. Even if you are talking to only one person, don't talk about anything really sensitive if you are famous enough to have people digging around. That's why I'm happy I'm no one. I don't worry about people repeating things I say because no one cares what I say or think!

I said it is not reasonable to expect that a Whatsapp conversation between these two will not be leaked as there will be many involved in the WhatsApp -- either officially or unofficially.

You responded that it was a private conversation and not a group chat. You seem to believe that Djoker and Tiley can have a private WhatsApp conversation.

I say that these two powerful men cannot have a private WhatsApp conversation.

If they wish to have a private conversation they need to meet face to face alone in a room.

If you are trying to distinguish between a private message and a group message, there is little difference in this scenario. Djoker and Tiley are working with their large teams, even if there was a private message between the two.

So, it is actually you, who states that those "powerful men" cannot have a private conversation, since apparently "they work with their large teams".

Why would you claim that someone else said something that they didn't, but you yourself think?

Djoker is the leader and the one that was most likely be speaking on behalf of players suffering under hard quaratine. Djoker was the primary spokesperson. That is also what the tabloid reported.

It is time for Tiley to name the players that "abused" him regarding hard quarantine conditions.

Tiley wants to present Djoker in a good light and yet he also tells us he was abused by player demands.

Tiley cannot have it both ways.

Once again. I believe that these two powerful men cannot have a private WhatsApp conversation. Regardless of whether it is labelled a "private" conversation or a group conversation under WhatsApp.

Why did you point out that it was a "private" conversation and not a group one? You seem to believe that it is possible to have a private WhatsApp conversation without leaking. Correct? I do not.

A private conversation between these two is as likely to leak as a group conversation.

Dr., good point that Djoker was likely acting as representative of the players but can’t we just leave it alone. Does everything have to be dissected, picked on and blown up out of proportion ? You’re having it two ways on how to spell quarantine; so what. :giggle:

You only further confirm that you implied that I said something I didn't (in fact I said the opposite). Just because you "believe" that two people cannot have a private convo doesn't entitle you to put words in people's mouths (if it wasn't clear to you by now).

FYI, yes, I believe that two people can have a private convo via WhatsApp. In fact, even with the limitations of the technology, I still consider it one of the more secure ways of having a normal private convo. The rest (going above that level of security) goes into the industrial espionage/secret services territory, and is paranoid and not applicable to the case we have here.

It is impossible for Tiley and Djoker to have a private WhatsApp conversation. It will leak because their team members will always be involved. That is how they are employing the technology.

Djoker and Tilley need to meet alone in a room to minimize the chances of leaking.
