2 Hand Forehand GRIP?

There's been a lot of talk about the 2hfh recently..
I want to try this out, but how do you grip a 2hfh? I searched on google but there's only discussion about whether the 2hfh is good/bad/etc and stuff about Seles.

So, how do you grip it? The dominant hand (the 1hfh hand) goes on bottom right? Or else you'd have to swap L/R hands from top to bottom..,right?

And then what grips? Is it like the 2hbh, with a western/sw/eastern grip for the dominant hand, and a conti for guidance?

I attempted to answer your question in the other thread, but I just found this picture and the top hand appears to be continental, as you suggested there. Hard to tell on the bottom hand, looks like at least an eastern forehand grip to me.

I just played for a bit today. I played with several grip setups
W+conti wasn't as great as I imagined. My thumb on lower hand kept hitting against the palm of my upper hand. Quite forcefully, not just rubbing/friction. I tried SW and E with a conti, it was better, but not very comfortable.

My favorite grip was E and E backhand grip for my upper hand (as if you're hitting a 1h bh with your non-dominant hand)
There was no thumb against palm problem, and I could get some major spin.
I could play naturally against my brother, and I could actually rally. Probably going to hit again tomorrow and see how it goes :)

Haha are you my twin? I was doing exactly the same today :) And I had the same problems but it is possible that way without the pain. I`m a little confused right now.. I dont know which grip I should use and what is right... Some photos with details would help me... to see the grips in separate holdings.
I dont know why nobody makes a video about grips on two handed forehands.. santoro could do some videos but I guess he never was thinking about this..
But one is for sure I will continue to play with two handed forehand it is verry powerfull if you are fast.. ;) and the control is better! you can aim precise all the time.
When I use backhand + eastern it is good BUT it is not so stable as continental + eastern/semiwestern on the bottom hand.. for now I use conti + eastern and I inverse the grips on backhand.

omg - HELP :D

At one point maybe 6 months ago I was considering a 2HFH. My thought would be you'd switch the top hand for each side you're hitting.

I don't think it's much different than a 2HBH. Thought I'd imagine the strong arm would be powering the shot while the weak hand is along for the ride in this case. Assuming you're a righty, it really shouldn't matter what grip your weak hand is in as it's just there to stabilize the shot. If I were to hit with a 2HFH, I'd like go C - weak, E or SW - strong

Then again there's more than one way to do it, so have fun trying it out.

Might want to see how Bartoli hits.

I really want to find out what monica seles was using cause I am a big fan of her.

I think.

on the forehand:

semi western (bottom) + eastern (top)

on the backhand

continental + semi western?

I dont know..

since I am a beginner - could someone do a photo of a eastern(top)/eastern(bottom) two handed forehand grip? This is... as far is know the best starting grip for 2HFH

but I dont know how to hold the upper hand - bottom is eastern but how looks the top hand with eastern grip? so if i remove my right hand i could hit a one hand forehand with eastern grip with my left hand? or its the opposite holding(for slice)? ah my english, I dont know if you understand me...

Good to see you guys are trying to adapt. If you've seen my vids you'll see how I hit.Witch I believe to be the proper way to hit the Two hander,Low and Flat with great pace.Try to avoid hitting with heavy spin and focus on a more net level swing stroke.Keep your weight on your front foot.Early preperation.Good footwork is essential for 2handers.Gotta be early when you step on my court. If you give me time:Boom ball behind you.
I grip my stick almost the same way I would a baseball bat.I'll suggest demoing a few Yonex sticks. The isometric head shape is sweet very forgiving in the upper hoop.My Mids are demanding but is honestly the best stick I have ever used.Been hitting 2hands 20 years.
Any questions feel free to ask.I'll be posting some better clips soon with sound and better angles witch might let you appreciate the stroke even more.I agree with CoachMaster It would be great to see a physically fit 2hander battle and competing at the top level.Ive been club champ 3 years running and get denied entry to my winter clubs tourney's.It really is a good feeling.Even though you can't play.
Take Care.

I agree with you. Because of my right hand injury I started to play both hands on both sides. I switched the hands and my right hand(the dominant) was at the bottom of the racquet. I soon gave up on my two handed forehand and started to learning one handed forehand with my left hand, but I keept my doublehand backhand who was and still is verry good and powerful.

The left arm developed slowly but soon i had enough control to compete with my friends. But some time ago I gave another one shot to doublehand forehand and realized why I gave up the shot - It was because of the grip.... I think for a beginner who is selflearning this shot is the knowing of right grip verry important.. There are some pros around me but NO ONE knows how to hit it properly...

I think that I figured out how to hit the forehand... and like you said, we should not concentrate and try to spin it too much, i am more a flat hitter and i think from the start it is most important to go trough the ball and keep the motion of the forehand.

I have I question:

SO you use Yonex RDiS 100 Mid? what is your tension? Is this not too small racquet for double handed play on both sides? I have watched Bartoli - she has a mega big racquet :D is this not better for recreative players?(i am pretty seious though - i play 3-4 times a week - lets say about 8 hours a week).

I have a babolat pro aerodrive cortex and a head radical microgel OS - I would like to ask you which racquet would be better for my play? A few days ago played with the radical @ 60lbs(27kg) - and i was hitting pretty good and powerfull but i had some trouble with long and high balls - do you think I should lower my tension? I havent try my babolat with two handed forehand yet...

I cant wait for your videos about the grip (in another topic you said you will make one :D) hehe :)

now I want to play like aiko nakamura. dominant hand on bottom on both sides. and serves with dominant(in our case with the right hand). I will never change this because if i let my dominant hand on the forehand go i still can do a single handed forehand with my left hand @ semi western.

on the lefties backhand i can let my upper hand go and do a slice or i can if i have time fast switch to a right handen forehand and hit with my right forehand which is also good)still better than my left handed forehand). :D

a link to see how is Aiko Nakamrua holding her racquet:

monica seles was also using this grip but she was a natural leftie and served with left.. but i think u know this :D

today I tried

bottom hand SEMI WESTERN
upper hand beetween eastern and semiwestern

i can produce soo much spin this way,

but is right to play like this??

So have we come to a conclusion yet? I'm switching to a 2HFH, and I have no clue how to hold it. I tried keeping same grip as my 2 handed backhand (continental right, eastern legt) and it felt EXTREMELY awkward to hit. However, not having to change grips at all was extremely nice, but what's the point if I frame it every time?

How have you all liked the semi-western right and eastern left grip?

i just know that some guys play that way on high level but they only talk about things we all know and never say nothing about the grips, it would be a dream if they would shoot some photos of the grips or make a video... but not from 10 meter distance...

OH THIS WORLD. It is so big but on the whole planet i cant find one site with pics or video where the two handed forehand would be described in a correct way. U must pay 251252$ to get 1 A4 paper of instructions...

L A M E

it is like all other stuff(forehands, butckhands) are FREEWARE only the 2HFH is a game u must buy.. to play it.

Husky the most usefull grip I have found is the semiwestern on the dominant hand(bottom) and eastern or extreme backhand grip on the nondominant hand(upper). U can control the balls and you get a lot of spin out of these strokes.. but it is not a flat grip, this is for more topspin shots... i dont know I feel this is the most non awkward grip for the 2HFH :)

From a foundation standpoint, using two eastern forehand grips, keeping the dominant hand on the bottom of the grip, allows for evolution progression. Some will migrate towards a more semi-western some will stay with the two eastern forehand grips.

This less severe grip pattern also allows for a natural transition to a solid one-handed forehand if the player so desires to use one later.

HM, tnx... So you say I must hold my upper hand like I would hit eastern forehand with my left hand(which is nondominant and is the upper hand) ??

I would start with this grip configuration; it allows for the greatest natural evolution without being prohibitive or limiting in and of itself. It also usually feels the most comfortable and produces a solid starting grip pattern.

This is my grip and I don't change it for the BH and I'm also a righty.Very unique style of player.

^^ as far as my Mid goes I keep in the low 50's with gut Mains and some kind of softer, more powerful poly,Latley I'm lovin Big hitter blue for my x's.I've used players sticks since I was young.I use tools not toys.To bang with me you better have a serious stick that can handle the force or else you will get bullied around.
Sorry Acintya I couldn't help you sooner, busy running my club.

wow thanks for this photo, i use the same combination since last 2 weeks and I find it very powerfull... my two handed forehand is a killer :)

this looks like you are using two eastern forehands with the base knuckle on bevel 3? for both hands? Tnx u man... for this photo, now Im even more sure that my grip is good..

by the way is this a Yonex RDiS 100 98? which tension and strings do you use?

I find head radical microgel OS very comfortable for this type of play... my tension is 27kg but I think I could go higher..

I have tryed it with the babolat aeropro drive too, and the control and power is enormous!!! but the reach is not so good, so im not yet sure which racquet should I use. I want to try some racquets that monica seles used, or at least some similar racquets of the size 105 sq inch..

tnx another time and I would be happy if u would answer me this questions :)

^^^^ It's the Yonex RDiS MID 93".Very stable
If your unsure of witch stick to use I suggest grabbing a few to demo and go from there.I'dd try a Wilson Kblade team Serena's Stick,or Give a Yonex a swing,The RdiS has the sweetest balance 12 oz that swings like 10oz.Good luck with the transition.I'dd go with a heavier stick since the weight doesn't play a issue as much. The KPS is a real beast.

Keep the tension low!!!!Two handers have to have a stick that can add some pace since there fighting the ball most of the time. Our game requires alot of physical work
Take Care.
