2013 NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament Sudden Death Challenge

Welcome to the 2nd edition of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament Sudden Death Challenge. For those that have been on the Pro Results Board you've seen this for all the Grand Slams and Masters level events. We had ZERO winners last year so it's not as easy as it sounds. Below are the rules to follow so happy pickin'.

Rules of the game:

1. It's a knock out-system: if the team(s) you picked wins, you're through to the next round. If they lose, you're out.

2. For the 1st 2 rounds, you have to pick two (2) teams per round. Starting in the Round of 16 and for the quarters, semis, and finals you pick one (1) team per round.

3. During the tournament you can only pick a team ONCE. The goal is to stay in it by picking teams that you expect to win but not necessarily win it all. You don’t want to waste a pick on one of the Big 5 early otherwise even if you make it to the finals you won’t have a team left to pick. If you somehow have no teams left to pick, you're out.

4. Your pick(s) have to be in before the start of the match.

5. If you want to change you pick, make a new post quoting the old pick. Edited posts containing picks will not be taken into account.

6. The winner is the last one standing – if there are multiple people still alive going into the finals they’ll be a tiebreaker added in. The tiebreaker will be to not only pick a winner but to also pick the score and pick who will clinch the last point.

You can pick as far in advance as you want to so if you want to pick 1st and 2nd rounds at the same time go for it.

Make your picks in the following format:

Round 1: USC, UCLA

I'll post results at the end of each day and I'll make sure the days matches are posted as early as possible. If you have any questions about the format, etc. let me know.

Good luck to all!!

Round 1: Florida, Oklahoma

Haven't been around much this season since graduating, but time to get into it and fired up for the tourney. Think I've got a better picking strategy than last year.

still can't believe how badly we did last year - no one made it to the end - i doubt history will repeat itself

for the upcoming weekend -

1st rd winners: vandy, UF
2nd rd winners: sooners, baylor

Round 1: Memphis, LSU
Round 2: Pepperdine, Ole Miss

you either:
1) like living on the edge
or
2) believe in stanford's tennis program less than i do (is that possible???)
or
3) enjoy taking a jab at stanford's tennis program on these boards more than i do (again, is that possible???)

:)

LSU is a below average team by NCAA tourney standards. Picking them against anyone other than Marist et al. is a huge gamble.

I see that no one picked BYU, which is a good thing after the latest rumor: Their top two players will not be at the NCAA Regional, for undisclosed reasons.

Round 1 Baylor, south Carolina
Round 2 Oklahoma, wake forget

Btw mike I thought we put 5 bucks on that wake/duke match so I guess you owe me 85000 dollars

haha, like i said weeks ago, i'm so incredibly lucky you didn't point me towards some online tennis betting middle man - you would have bankrupted me - i was so confident you were making a totally ridiculous prediction

Ouch

You guys might have to sweat out that South Carolina pick today, right down to the wire.

That was a fast exit. Thought South Carolina would have been motivated. Wish I had seen the video of their NCAA Selection party before my pick.

Wow, they were deflated.

15 people are through to the 2nd round and 8 people (including me) have SECured a place in the loser pile courtesy of Florida and South Carolina.

For the 15 still in it don't forget to get your 2nd round picks in if you haven't already made them. If you have made them and want to make a change then you can up until match time tomorrow.

No because the 2nd round picks aren't locked in until the matches start tomorrow.

that's silly - the spirit of not having things locked in for future rounds would seem to be for a change of heart on who is playing well after seeing previous matches, not "oh crap i just got eliminated, oh wait let me use a second life"

but it's all good, just a game, and yours after all, i'll let you ref it now after chiming in my 2 cents
