2021 A Great Year for ABZ

This thread has become an annual tradition and I'm bringing it back for the 3rd straight year. Last year was a wild ride for us. With Zverev getting just two points away from destroying the Zvirginity of slams we had some stressful moments. Thankfully he choked gloriously and we have another thing to make fun of him for because of it. While I don't think we'll see anything as glorious as the 2020 ATP Cup from Zed this year hopefully we will get lots of opportunities to continue to laugh at Zverev as a community. ABZ forever!

Zverev will be 6th in the ATP ranking soon as Federer is going to lose 1000 pts for 2019 Miami win.

This deserves to be Oxford Dictionary's 2021 word of the year.

He didn't get within two points, Thiem broke him when the Ziraffe was serving at 30-40. So Zedrot got within three points of a slam victory.

Wait, did I just watch Sascha Zverev wearing a dirty looking cream wifebeater (doesn't he know the nickname for those things?) losing to next next Gen?
Gross.
Uh oh.... this innocuous post will be removed by a certain controlling curmudgeon WTA fanatic from Australia. You see, "wifebeater" is pejorative and "offensive to the female mindset." When I used the term, it was nuked within minutes. Talk about pathetic whining to mods.

Even if Thiem never wins another slam (though that would be unfortunate), at least he did us all a favor by not allowing Z to win one.

And not because of the memes necessarily, but because Z's level was one of the poorest I've seen for a slam finalist.
Zverev was actually balling in the first two sets. People forget that he was genuinely good at the start but he did ruin that by being absolutely atrocious the whole rest of the way. Thiem was at least a semi-deserving winner as he played well up to the final and he had paid his dues losing 3 slam finals prior. We will never forget what Brother Thiem did for us to be sure.

Well, I was thinking more like Z had a cupcake draw to reach the final and still dropped 6 sets on the way.

what will you do differently if you were professional tennis player

i for example, would give one grand slam trophy to my coach and other one to my parents for their efforts

I mean, it was gifted to him on a dinner platter with Fed and Ned out, Tsitsipas blowing MPs against Coric, Djokovic getting DQ’d, PCB blowing a two-set lead in the SF, and Thiem sucking in the final.

He was much better at the AO that year.
Honestly, both Z and Thiem were better at the AO.

by December of that year, he (agassi) had surpassed US$1 million in career prize money after playing in just 43 tournaments—the fastest anyone in history had reached that level.

He then became the first man to capture the US Open as an unseeded player, beating Michael Stich in the final. Along the way, he beat 5 seeded players.

In 1998, Agassi won five titles and leapt from No. 110 to No. 6, the highest jump into the top 10 made by any player during a calendar year

How do you have that bad of a draw and still drop six sets along the way?
Kinda hilarious that you can make Z sound super good by saying hist last few HC slams like this: Made the SFs beating a former champ and went even with the guy who gave the AO GOAT his second biggest scare. Two points away from winning the USO. Gave the AO GOAT and eventual champion his toughest match. One point from taking it 5 and probably winning.

Even if Z had taken it to 5, he wouldn't have won.
