Glad to see Wawrinka, Coric and Raonic's names back on an entry list. It's been a while. I hope they are done with injuries. Coric is still so young and had so much potential, it saddens me to see him riddled with injuries. Wawrinka could still surprise us and upset a few top players in slams IMO. IW is too soon but if he can put the injuries behind him there is no reason why he can't find a decent level again.

I doubt Djokovic participates. He will remove himself from the entry list just like he did in Toronto and Cincinnati. Maybe it'll change next year but he simply doesn't care about Masters this year. Maybe Paris before WTF but he may skip this one as well.

I'm going to be in Indian Wells for the whole tournament this October. It's my 3rd time going to this tournament and after attending several other events over the years, including a couple Slams, Indian Wells is the best experience in my opinion.

I imagine that Brooksby will get a wildcard. Probably Sock as well.

On the women's side, I think Fernandez is in on ranking, but Raducanu would need a wildcard, which I'm sure she'll get.

Djokovic will skip it for sure, especially if he wins the US Open.

I'd be surprised if Djokovic didn't play Indian Wells. From what I understand, it's one of his favorite tournaments and it's the last chance to play outdoors before they head to rainy and cold Europe for the final indoor portion of the season. Plus, Indian Wells starts 1 month from the end of the US Open, giving him a chance to recharge, regardless of what happens on Sunday.

Djokovic might actually play this, especially if he wins the USO.

The reason being, his focus is more than likely going to shift to that record breaking 7th year end number one to break the tie with Sampras. This will be his last real chance to get that 7th year ending number one IMO.

He's got it if he wins USO. He'll be about 2.000 points ahead of Med, who has Paris and ATP finals to defend. Unless he appears in every 500 and 250 from now on and wins them all.

It will be official? Because defending points and gaining race points are not the same until the end of the full season. I think Novak will need to play more if he wants to secure it.

If he wins, Novak will have 12.913 points, and Med will be 2nd with 9.980. Stef a distant 3rd at 8.290. So Med needs to gain 3.000 points from IW, Vienna, Basel and a bunch of 250s. He can't gain anything from Paris and ATP finals since he's the defending champion.

100% guarantee that Djokovic won't win IW. He'll be the bookies overwhelming favorite, so some people can make lots of money at their expense.

this year race ranking will not be the same as official ranking. and the idiotic ATP rule for this year will follow the race for the YE # 1 award even though someone else may be the official no1 at the end of the year. This is because some points from the 2020 or 2019 are counted until next year in the official ranking but not in the race. nole has about 1000 points more of such points in relation to medvedev. and it can easily happen (especially if medvedev wins the final) that nole ends up as no1 and counts weeks as no1 but that medvedev gets the prize as YE # 1 without getting any week as official no1. so he can become YE # 1 without becoming no1.

everyone is always in, all masters except monte carlo have automatic entry. so it means very little at this stage,

it is up to the player to remove names from entry list., injured players out first but more will surely follow.

weakest entry list ever

A lot of these players won’t play as they will go back to Europe after the USO and not return within a month. IW is trolling people to sell tickets by listing everyone who hasn’t officially pulled out yet. In the next couple of weeks, I expect at least 10-15 players to drop out.

You might be right. However, aren't the Masters 1000 events mandatory for participation? I think the top players lose significant bonus pool money if they don't show up. Plus, the money for just showing up and losing in the first round is pretty decent ($18k). I know there are exceptions for the mandatory requirement for veteran players based on age, number of matches, and years on tour. Plus, they can't make you play if you are injured. But I would be surprised if 10% to 15% of the entry list dropped out within the next 4 weeks given the requirements and money involved.

Honestly, if Djokovic drops out and all three members of the Big 3 are missing for the first time in forever, I'm OK with that. I've seen all of them play in person several times. Speaking of Djokovic...

My first time going to Indian Wells was in 2008. My wife and I have birthdays in March and we decided to take a trip together to SoCal to celebrate, with a swing by the tournament for a couple days as a present for me. I had gotten free tickets from a friend of mine that worked for the ATP at the time, and when we went to the VIP will-call tent outside the stadium to pick them up, Alec Baldwin was in line in front of us getting his. Walking into the tournament grounds, I told my wife that the first thing I wanted to do was check out the practice courts because I had heard that it was an amazing opportunity to see the players up close. When we got to the practice courts, I saw that there was an open one with nobody hitting on it yet sandwiched in between a court where Ana Ivanovic was practicing (with a fairly large crowd watching) and some other pro (I don't recall who it was). I told my wife, let's go sit on the steps of that empty court and see who shows up. Sure enough, about 5 minutes after we sat down there (with butts on the steps and our feet on the actual court), a golf cart arrived with Novak Djokovic and Radek Stepanek to start practicing there! At that point, Novak was the newly minted 2008 Australian Open champion, his first slam title. To show how close we were, here are a couple pics I took from where we were sitting:

When Djokovic first arrived on the court, he came over and put his gear down right next to us, asking us to "do him a favor and watch it for him." He chatted with us a little bit and was making lots funny comments with Radek as they warmed up. (I think it helps that my wife is attractive., which probably caught his attention.) They only hit for about 30 minutes and played a few practice games, so it wasn't too serious, but it was awesome for us. Basically, within our first 15 minutes of arriving at Indian Wells, we saw a famous actor while picking up our tickets, had a brief interaction with a Grand Slam champ (and future GOAT candidate), and got a front row seat to a practice! :D

funny how many longtime fans don't get that entry lists often mean nothing.
It is like most cons - give the potential victims what they want to hear or a deal that sounds too good to pass up, get their money upfront and don’t deliver on any promises that were made. Mostly the fault of the con artists, but the victims could do better about looking with a jaundiced eye at any deal that sounds too good to be true.

There is nothing left...im sure he wants a break and spend time with fam

Turns out your speculation was correct! Hats off... :notworthy:

Its really bad since a good deal of people buy tickets for specific players and in general you can't wait for the last moment to buy them

How many people were really buying Indian Wells tickets this year just because of Djokovic or Barty?

I mean, Novak has been on tour for almost 18 years. There's been plenty of chances to see him play and he's not done yet.

As I mentioned before in this thread, I'm going to Indian Wells again because it's an awesome event, not because of the entry list. I'm pretty excited to get a look at some of these young guns. I've seen Zverev and Sinner play in person, but have never had a chance to watch Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Rublev, FAA, Alcaraz, Musetti... and others. I'm looking forward to a tournament that anyone could win!
