The funny part is they actually won Southern by winning all 3 dubs and losing both singles.
Yea their two singles guys went 4-5 in singles at Southerns (one was a retirement loss to save energy though). I’m actually surprised to see them be so dominant at nationals. I thought doubles was going to be their teams strength.

Great finish. Came down to another 3rd set tiebreak. MoValley came out on top 3-2. I heard southern unfortunately had cramping issues on both singles courts. Tough luck to have that happen at such an important time as their singles had been so strong all weekend. Well played by MoValley though. Congrats to them!

no offense to southwest but it looks like they got an easy draw
Going in to the event, I had Southwest with a 4.43 schedule strength. It wasn't the easiest, but was in the top-3 easy schedules, so yeah, they benefited from that.

My team lost to Southern in the semis. It was a great match and that singles play for Southern was running the whole time. We ended up getting 3rd place in the event and enjoyed playing a tough schedule.

The only thing I hate is how Sundays semis and finals are held within an hour of each other. Southern singles guys were spent. Hell any singles player who plays at a high level would be with an hour break. They need to do something to change that. Its unfair for all the teams that make it to Sunday. Congrats to all the teams that made it. Was a fun event.

The USTA appears to put a priority on ensuring the event is over by early afternoon so folks can get a flight out that evening. But yeah, not having the gap between the semi and final that teams had on Friday and Saturday is tough.

Wow that guy for MO Valley goes from 7-4 in 2019 to like 23-1 in 2021:oops:
No obvious tanking. Just looks like someone who got back into the game in 2019 and found their stride in late 2020 and into 2021. Very well could have been bumped up had there been 2020 year-end ratings.

From what I remember the singles from mo valley, one (lefty) played #1 at a D2 and the other was #2 at a D1.
Im not sure that’s accurate. I played with the guy that played #2 for Missouri valley in the semis and finals; we were on the same team in SC for a bunch of years. I know he played college but im about 99% sure it wasnt D1.

Side note, he beat the KY guy 5&5 in the finals of nationals. In maybe 2017 or 2018 when we lost to SC in Southern final, the same guy beat him 2&2. Was really glad to hear his team won and he got that redemption.

Both played D2 colleges in the *******. The lefty played at Washburn and the other played at Truman State
