Hey guys and gals !
Played a match yesterday, those were the scores. Singles, best of 3, somewhat serious.....we'd bragged about our tennis for a while to each other....
I got....we're close, both leftie (therefore erratic, but I have the edge..
He got... we're close, both leftie, and except for a few missed shots, we'd be really even...
What are some of your opinions? Thanks.

Thank you for the comments.

Just like most rec-level tennis (and too much of WTA tennis), everything comes in spurts. Not many players can sustain good play for a long period of time, especially if they rely on power hitting and 4-shot rallies. Hence the score...

Some video would be nice. Isn't technology far enough advanced to buy a soapbox camera for 20 bucks?

:) "sustain level of play"....
Was at a college court.
All these hotties kept walking by, slowing down and stopping to watch. Some even put down their packs and watched.
Weather went from 59 degree dark fog to sunny, 70 degree sauna.
Can two lefties ever play a close match with close scores?

what does being a lefty have to do w/ being erratic? what's the logic and correlation behind this?

my opinion? i'm glad to hear that even after the crushing defeat you laid on your opponent, you both feel close emotionally. maybe it's a deep emotional bond that only lefties can feel and relate to.

you thought: it was your smoldering good looks they were staring at.

they thought: what an amusing sight...older fellow hobbling around a tennis court chasing tennis balls. in an odd way, it's rather entertaining.

Sounds like you don't play with good (not great) lefty players, do you?
I"ve played with lefties since 1975. NOT ALL, but the majority are very talented, but don't take it nearly as seriously as their rightie brethen.
I can name TWO lefties who DO take it seriously, but have limited stroke production potential (weak serves, or lacking in some aspects of the game.
I can probably name well over 20 lefties who had the potential and EVERY shot to get to the next level (compared to their peers) but never did, because of head games, lack of real motivation, or lack of interest.
For sure, Connors and McEnroe took it seriously and maximised their potential.
I can think of dozens of lefties who had better physical skills, stroke production, speed, power, who didn't come close to that level.

Actually, I was grading each and every single one of them, to my criteria.
Hard to switch back to looking at a tennis ball.

So you are saying you knew dozens of people that could have been better than Connors and McEnroe? Because that is a tall statement to make.

Post 11. It's the service that costs too much, not the actual product. I live on 570 a month, which after car insurance, storage container fees, some credit card monthly bills, doesn't leave a whole lot for food and gas, which I deem more important than having a video camera.
Post 12. PHYSICAL skills, not better mental skills. Physical skills is the ability to hit harder, run faster, be taller, while keep close in reaction times. MENTAL skills is the ablility to play your best game regardless of the distractions and pressures you are facing. That is not the same as physical skills.

You are wrong. Younger girls love watching older 3.5 men duke it out with the winner taking the fair maiden out to dinner.

I'm still trying to figure out what this thread is about? All I know is that LeeD probably intimidated the opponent by not warming up and then proceeding to chuck a large object over a distant fence.:)

Amazing thread. I love Lee's world. A place where hot girls stop to watch two old men play low level tennis. What a joyful place that must be.

"all these hotties kept stopping by".

Ask yourselves, in your history of playing tennis from USTA juniors, to high school, to college - has this ever happened to anyone but LeeD?

Amazing exaggerated brag thread from the GOAT of talking about himself at all times.

Obviously, nobody cares, and you guys are good jesters.
My take, since nobody cares.
We both warmed up adaquately, including overheads and deep and short volleys.
1st set, he was caught off guard, or I was playing an A game I didn't have.
2nd set, he was playing better, I took it easy, or maybe my real game showed.
3rd set, two tired old farts. He's in much better physical condition, can run full speed into the end of the 3rd set, I had to hit better shots, since court coverage was really lacking by then. Maybe he started to notice the bystanders, while I was already full on into it.
I was hoping "better shots" can trump a younger, faster opponent who wanted to WALK HOME after this "match". I could barely walk to my car.

LeeD, you lost your focus in the second because of all the hotties in the audience. I hope you showed them your 5.0 net game after that. Girls love a clean volley, they couldn't care less about baseline bashing. You know, they can even do that themselves.

I see some jealousy going on here.
Yes, lots of college age women stopped to watch, some took off their jackets, some sat down and watched, but most just slowed, watched a bit and left.
Is that abnormal?
One thing to consider....I did NOT take the energy or the time to look for the guys who stopped to watch.
Another thing....I"m 64. Almost any IN SHAPE, young thing is worth of some attention. I"m not choosy like YOU guys are.
And NO, didn't take the time to dream or talk to any of the passersby.

Play the sympathy card, make THEM interested (if they are), then close in and shut the door!
Gee, is that really a valid strategy? Did it ever work?

You guys ever work with a wingman? It does work.
And of course, you gotta look at what you've got to work with, right? I ain't got much, so gotta look harder.
BradPitt can pretty much decimate the field, without working very hard.
Which lead's me to an old opponent, one LarryMcKellar, who I played in the semis of my first C tourney, and the finals of my second C tourney.....and years later, BATL B's.
First match 1,5 (meaning I lost 7-5) and 1.
Finals of second matchup, 1, 1, and 1, meaning I won the first by breadstick, lost the second by breadstick, and won the third by breadstick...duh.
2 years later, BATL leaque4.5 or B's, 1, 3, and 1.
HE went on to become a respected lower level A player, one who anchored the SanPabloB team for more than a decade.
I quit tennis after 2 months, taking up motocross.
Heard about him 3 weeks ago, while SanPablo was playing another team, and he's well and playing tennis somewhere else.

SHhhh.
I gotta avoid that kind of thinking.
As you know, I"m living with a 42 year old woman, so the idea of "picking up" any female is verboten for now.
It's in the backburner for sure, but not up front.

Just yesterday, these two pretty hot chicks were watching me play for about half hour. They couldn't take their eyes off the court.

About every 5 minutes they'd ask, "are you guys done yet"

Sounds like someone ran out of Gatorade and dissolved a few ED tabs in their water: "Down, tiger!"

Pretty sure 'Glory Days' runs non-stop at @LeeD's abode... 64 yr old 3.5 (*cough*) has hotties stopping to watch.... ok.... sure

Interesting!
Consuming liquids on a hot day when sweat is pouring into my eyes, me in double lined black long warmups, black hat, and the opponent is rushing between points, him in white shorts and shirt, and a big bottle of Gatorade sipped on changeovers.
I"ve got to review those circumstances.
Did I take this match seriously?
Would some liquid or a sit down between changovers help?
Should I wear all black when it's hot out, and I"m pouring sweat?
Thanks, I'll consider some alternatives.
Nah.

I wish, I have a tan line on my arms caused by months of short sleeve windsurfing.
Played in a black T shirt, black long lined warmups, didn't have shorts under, only underwear.
Think both were soaked to saturation by the beginning of the second set, but didn't see a swimming pool around.
No water, no towell.

There were a bunch of chicks watching me last night too. They let us play a few extra minutes to finish our match and then kicked us off their court.

Since this is a thread with multiple thread lines...

I played doubles last night too. Nobody else around but us 4 guys. After 2-3 points in the first game, my partner says to me, "Where are all the hot chicks?"

My first thought was, "WTF dude... how about you worry about the match first... then start looking for women...." We lost 1-6, 1-6. Hot chicks never did show up.

This thread is absolutely hilarious!

But the first post brings back some memories. The first high school match I played in 7th grade, the match literally was a 6-1,2-6,13-11 win. Absolutely on fire the first set, couldn't make a single hit the second set.
