750$ for a serve clinic?

The folks from Online Tennis Instruction are giving one-day serve clinics (actual duration 5 hours, in-person, not online) for 750$ per student, maximum of 4 students per clinic.

Anyone here been to one of those clinics? Maybe if you throw in two new racquets of of my choice I might consider it, but this price tag is exaggerated IMO. How much can you improve your serve in such a short time? 5 hours divided by 4 students gives you roughly 1 1/4 hours for yourself. Maybe if they hire Sampras to give the clinic. With the two racquets. Maybe.
He spent endless hours studying super slo mo footage.

High speed video is only useful if your serve is already good.

J

True, in large part. But video, even if it ain't high speed, can be an effective feedback tool for more seriously flawed motions. You can tell a student that he/she is doing something wrong (or sub-optimally) but, until they actually see it for themselves, it won't register or it won't sink in.

For 750 bucks, you can take a few individual serve lessons as part of a resort package of that cost.

If it included a farm2fork lunch with wine, it may be worth it.

LOL there is really a camp like that!

https://www.broadmoor.com/activities/tennis/tennis-camps/

September 13 - 15, 2019
Annual Farm to Table Tennis Camp (Level: 3.5 - 4.5)
After tennis camp on Saturday afternoon, you’ll embark on a very unique “hands-on” experience at The Broadmoor Farm and Greenhouse. Starting with a tour of the Farm, the chef will discuss the various vegetables, herbs and edible flowers grown, explaining how they decide what to plant, as well as when and how to harvest them. While the chef prepares your al fresco picnic lunch, featuring the bounty of our gardens, a Broadmoor Sommelier will serve a variety of wines. This event truly showcases the farm to table philosophy of The Broadmoor Restaurant Collection. A very unique weekend for that very special occasion!

BTW, Conchita Martinez told her student Pliskova during a coaching break in the Miami final to reach up and then snap down on the serve, and even demonstrated it.

What do the learned $750 coaches think about the wrist snap?

Sounds yummy. Not sure about the tennis instruction though.

Ya, but that's just showing them your point of view.

Legend
About 5K for two days of instruction

It's more than that. I inquired about it last year. It's $8k. Includes hotel etc. When they quoted me that price and then told me what you get... quite honestly... I was flabbergasted. But some of the "benefits" I didn't want. I would have booked my own hotel (because I get the points). I would have booked my own car (again, I get the points). I would have paid for my own meals (again, I get the points). I don't need group dinners with their team. I don't need anybody's personal cell phone number. I don't need the "Experience".

And they don't pay your airfare -- so that isn't even in the equation.

All I wanted was the "stuff". No "fluff". So the "stuff" you get in the package is 10 hours of instruction. Camera footage. A year of membership content (they told me is was $564 value). And a personalized training plan.

So doing the math, I figure it would have cost me the following (being very liberal):

Round-Trip Airfare : $425
3 day car rental: $300
3 days meals: $200
2 night/3 day hotel: $400
-------------------------------------
Total Travel Expenses: $1325
Travel Expenses w/o airfare: $900

So that means they basically are charging about $7k for the 10-hours of lessons, camera footage, one-year membership, and personalized plan. No way. I think Essential Tennis actually has some good content and their coaching and analysis is actually of good quality. But IMHO, this package they put together, really only makes them accessible to wealthy people who don't care where they spend their money.

I'd rather give $4k for high-powered, high-quality lessons -- no fluff -- and give the other $4k to cancer research or something that actually does some good for mankind.

People will always use the phrases "wrist snap" and "racquet back" just as the tennis legends have

Anyone looking to buy a high speed camera? Brand new, in the box.

I'll trade you for a hopper of balls, a sock, a football, a pool noodle, a paint roller and an extendable pole.

Those are the tools of the Jolliteri Academy.

Secret of the serve is conti grip, then elbow bend and then going up and then snapping down on the ball.

Don't bother about toss. It will come naturally once you focus on the above. And if it doesn't, too bad you will suck because you are not going to practice 1000 tosses a day as you are told to. Don't bother about backscratch, knee bend, hip thrust, leg drive etc. Whatever tiny fraction of that you are capable of will either come naturally from the actions in the first sentence, or it won't as you are too lazy and too unathletic.

That is all. No need to spend $750 unless it comes with a farm2table lunch.

Thats an insane price! Most certified pros charge between $60-70 for a private one hour lesson... But most of us don't have YouTube channels. But if there are people out there willing to spend it...

That's precisely the point. You don't market a niche business to Walmart customers.

A guy like you (and me) just wants bulk instruction at the local court for $50.

$7000 gets you a daily lesson for half a year. Realistically, all the lessons your can take for an entire year. I'm going to take as many lessons I can physically handle this season, and I'll be lucky to crack $2500.

You're telling people the secret to tennis fitness and can only physically handle 1 lesson per week?

It would be nice to see any customer before and after serve videos to check how much improvement is there.

I would join a Jolly serve clinic :D

JLPTA offers serve clinics on a regular basis for beginning to advanced players. All Jolliteri's coaches are certified in the AA (Always Ace) (TM) methodology of teaching serves which was personally developed by Jolliteri. Typical improvements observed after the clinic are in the 0.1 to 1 mph range.
